Samsung HMX-U10 (purple)

Here is a review from CNet for Samsung U10 digital camcorder.

View the full gallery

Samsung's taking its sleek smartphone stylings and applying them to its debut entry into minicamcorder territory. Looking a bit like the Memoir, but with the lens section angled slightly upward for (presumably) more comfortable operation, the HMX-U10 combines an eye-catching design with some--but not all--of the features necessary to succeed in the competitive direct-to-Web camcorder market.

It certainly takes the lead by offering 1920x1080 30fps video; the Flip UltraHD, Creative Vado and Kodak Zi6 all do only 1280x720 720p. And while the CMOS sensor is relatively large compared to the Flip and Kodak--1/2.3 inch vs. 1/4.5--it also crams in boatloads more pixels to be able to claim 10-megapixel still photos.

Like its compatriots, the U10 will allow for USB battery charging--however the USB cable isn't built in--and ship with in-camcorder software for editing and direct-to-YouTube uploading. The U10 does offer an SD card slot, a useful feature which the Flip lacks, but has a smaller 2-inch LCD. Like its cohorts, the U10 has a fixed focal-length lens. But it's a pretty slow one, f3 compared to Flip's f2.4 and Kodak's f2.8, which, especially in conjunction with the high-resolution sensor, doesn't bode well for low-light video quality.

With dimensions of 2.2 x 4.1 x 0.6 inches it's slightly wider than the Vado but smaller than the rest. That doesn't seem to include the lens, which pokes out from the body a bit. It's one of the lightest at 3.4 ounces, though.

So what's missing? A catchier name, for one. It'd also be nice if it comes in more colors than just silver. When it ships in September, in silver, red, greet and black, Samsung will be asking $199.99 for it, putting it at the pricey end of the spectrum.

Samsung ST1000 Wi-Fi bluetooth and GPS in One Camera

The ElectricPig.com posted a review about Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

We’ve just had official confirmation that the Samsung ST1000 camera we spotted in blurrycam shots a couple of days ago is the real deal – and according to Samsung it’s the first ever compact camera to offer GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in a single body.

GPS allows the Samsung ST1000 to geotag each shot you take, and it will also keep you informed of the city and region you’re currently in (in case you, you know, forget) via the camera’s LCD screen.

Bluetooth lets you transfer shots directly to mobile phones, while Wi-Fi allows you to email them to pals, or upload stills and videos direct to Facebook, YouTube and Picasa. The ST1000 is DLNA compliant too, so you can stream the snaps to other DLNA gear – HDTVs, media servers, digital photo frames and the like.

The Samsung ST1000 also possesses the world’s highest resolution 3.5-inch touchscreen, and it supports a new feature called Smart Touch Auto Focus. This allows you to pinpoint the auto focus area simply by touching a location on the screen. Hold your finger there for longer and the camera will take a picture.

The ST1000 was only one of three new Samsung cameras unveiled today: they also announced the ST500 and ST550.

Samsung puts HD Video recording in the palm of your hand

PRESS SUMMARY

Samsung puts HD Video recording in the palm of your hand - digital camera and photography newsUltra Compact HMX-U10 Camcorder takes full-HD Video and 10 MP Stills; K-Series featuring the SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 offer near full-HD Upscaling and HDMI Connectivity

Samsung Electronics America Inc. today introduced new camcorders that make recording and viewing video in HD easy. The HMX-U10 is an ultra compact camcorder that records in full-HD and takes 10 mega-pixel still photos. It also allows users to easily share content online with its one-touch “upload” button to YouTubeTM. The SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 record video in standard definition but then upscale the footage to near full-HD when viewing through an HDMI output (cable sold separately). These new models join Samsung's second-half camcorder lineup for 2009, which includes the recently introduced SMX-C14 and SMX-C10.

“We want to make it easy for everyone, from the young family of four to the tech-savvy professional, to record and view HD footage,” said Reid Sullivan, senior vice president of Audio/Video and Digital Imaging Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “The addition of the HMX-U10 and the K-Series adds strength to an already impressive lineup of Samsung camcorders and offers a digital video recording solution for every consumer segment.”

HMX-U10

The HMX-U10 is the ideal solution for the consumer looking for ultimate portability and ease-of-use in an HD camcorder. The HMX-U10 offers full-HD video recording with 1920x1080 resolution. The HMX-U10's 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor also gives consumers the ability to capture impressive 10 mega-pixel digital still images, all which can be reviewed on the camcorder's clear, two-inch LCD screen. At 56mm x 103mm x 15.5mm, and weighing just 95g including the battery, the HMX-U10 is ultra-compact with an ergonomic design that breaks free of the traditional look and feel of pocket-sized camcorders. Its sleek frame is accentuated by a wave-design that angles the body of the camcorder at seven degrees, allowing users to grip the camcorder more comfortably, reducing any related stress on the wrist or arm. This same ergonomic design philosophy is also found in the SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 camcorders, which feature Samsung's unique Active Angle Lens.

SMX-K40 and SMX-K45

With the new K-Series, consumers can enjoy near full-HD quality video for the price of a standard definition camcorder. The SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 record exceptional standard definition video at a resolution of 720x480, and then can be played back on an HDTV in near full-HD quality thanks to advanced upscaling technology and HDMI connectivity. With a built-in HDMI output on the camera and HDMI cable (sold separately), consumers connect the camcorder directly to their HDTV for near full-HD playback.

The SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 also offer one of Samsung's most powerful zoom lenses. Consumers have a 65x Intelli-Zoom at their fingertips which drastically enhances their ability to capture any moment they see no matter how far away they may be. Significantly more reliable than a standard digital zoom which negatively affects the quality of the image, Samsung's new Intelli-Zoom allows users to go beyond the camcorder's 52x optical zoom. The K-Series also features Samsung's advanced Optical Image Stabilizer, ensuring that video will be shake-free, whether zoomed out or using the camcorder at it's full 65x Intelli-Zoom. Furthermore, the camcorder's world-class Schneider-KREUZNACH lens delivers the quality and performance needed to help capture the most impressive video possible.

The SMX-K45 offers an internal 32GB Solid State Drive (SSD), providing up to 20 hours and 40 minutes of recording time depending on the recording mode. Samsung's renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder. SSD is more energy efficient, produces very low heat emission, and is faster and more durable than HDD because there are no moving parts. The SMX-K40 does not have internal storage and requires the use the of a SD/SDHC card.

Unique Features

The new HMX-U10 and K-Series follow in the footsteps of the newly introduced SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 and boast several unique features which differentiate them from the competition and make video recording even more enjoyable for consumers. Such features include Samsung's built-in intelli-studio software, animated thumbnails, and a versatile charging system.

No longer do consumers need to worry about being near their home computer in order to edit or share their video. The HMX-U10 and the K-Series all feature Samsung's play-edit-sharing program called intelli-studio. The camcorders' built-in intelli-studio program allows consumers to turn any computer into a mobile studio, giving them the ability to edit and play their video without having to install supporting software. Sharing is also simplified using intelli-studio as the program takes the hassle out of uploading content to popular video-sharing Web sites. For example, a one-touch “upload” button, available directly on the HMX-U10, provides a direct connection to YouTube™, further reducing the number of steps needed to upload footage. In addition, the camcorders also allow basic on-camera editing, including the ability to split video files.

Samsung's animated thumbnail feature simplifies the way users search for video clips. Each video clip saved on the camcorder is represented by a small thumbnail on the LCD screen. When scrolling through one's videos, each thumbnail will provide a short playback of the video file when highlighted by the user. The HMX-U10, and SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 also feature a versatile charging system. Users can either recharge the battery by connecting the camcorder to the supplied AC adapter or via USB while the camcorder is connected to a computer.

Samsung crams WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth 2.0 into well-specced CL65 point-and-shoot

The Engadget revied Samsung's CL65 digital camera as follows:

If you're anything like us (and let's face it, you're exactly like us), you've been counting down the nanoseconds until Samsung finally revealed what its 'Tap and Take' campaign was all about. This, folks, is it. As many of you sharp folks surmised, Samsung is delving deep into the intelligent camera arena, equipping its luscious CL65 (no, not that CL65) with a 12.2 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, 720p (30fps) movie mode, an HDMI output, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen that utilizes a Smart Gesture user interface. Furthermore, the camera can access certain features when simply tilted, and the built-in Bluetooth 2.0 module enables users to easily share images with other BT-equipped devices.

Considering that you're probably still not impressed, how's about a little more on the cutting-edge front? The point-and-shoot also includes WiFi (much like Sony's disappointing DSC-G3 and Panny's Lumix DMC-TZ50), giving users the ability to upload directly to Facebook, Picasa and YouTube. Unfortunately, all photos uploaded via WiFi will be reduced to a resolution of two megapixels, and while we understand the reasoning, we figure an option for full / reduced res would've been a much better compromise. At any rate, the device also includes DLNA support for streaming to HDTVs and the like, while the integrated GPS chip handles the geotagging. The cam, which is admittedly bursting at the seams with features, will land next month in the US for $399.99. Full release is after the break.

SAMSUNG INTRODUCES THE CONNECTED DIGITAL CAMERA – CL65

Capture and Share Precious Moments On-the-Go with Built-In Wireless Connectivity

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. – August 13, 2009 - Samsung Electronics America, Inc., today unveiled the CL65, featuring built-in geo-tagging, Bluetooth 2.0, DLNA compatibility, and Wi-Fi* connectivity. With the new CL65, users can make a true visual connection with their family and friends by quickly and easily sharing photo memories and moments while on-the-move.

Packed full of innovation and encased in a sleek compact frame, the CL65 offers the unprecedented combination of geo-tagging, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi, and DLNA compatibility. The geo-tagging capability allows users to keep track of where they've traveled, while DLNA compatibility and Wi-Fi connectivity enable users to send and share pictures almost as quickly as they take them. The CL65 is a great way to keep your network of friends and family in the know.

Thanks to the built-in geo-tagging capability, the CL65 displays the city on the camera's LCD screen, providing users with a display of the location where they're taking a photo, as well as a reference for when they are reviewing and managing images. With the embedded PC software package 'intelli-studio', users can also easily view, edit and manage their pictures right on the camera before uploading them to popular photo-sharing sites, such as Picasa™.

Using Bluetooth 2.0 technology, users can wirelessly beam their favorite images to other compatible devices. Using a Wi-Fi connection, users can now email photos directly from their camera and upload them to popular social networking sites. The CL65 also offers DLNA connectivity, allowing users to wirelessly connect to other DLNA compatible devices within their networked home, such as an HDTV, to view and share their images.

The CL65 sports a 3.5" wide touch-screen LCD. With a resolution of 1,152K, almost four times more than traditional cameras, the CL65's advanced display provides users with an enhanced viewing experience. The CL65 also incorporates Samsung's Smart Gesture User Interface. With a simple tilt, users can now easily access key features such as Smart Auto, movie, and program mode.

The CL65 comes with a 12.2 megapixel CCD and a high-quality, 35mm Schneider KREUZNACH lens. Offering a powerful internal 5x optical zoom, the CL65's lens produces clean and clear images with balanced resolution from the center of images to the edges. Alongside professional grade photos, the CL65 records 720p HD video at 30 frames-per-second in H.264 format, giving twice as much recording capacity as MPEG4 format, and four times more than MJPEG format, all in the palm of your hand. HDMI connectivity means that your HD videos can be enjoyed on any HDTV or HD Monitor.

Additionally, the camera's touch-screen user interface provides users with Samsung's innovative and intuitive One Touch Auto Focus system. This puts complete command of the camera's focusing system right in the hands of the photographer, allowing the user to pinpoint the exact area to lock focus on by simply touching the location on the LCD screen. Users can also automatically trigger the camera to then take the image by continuing to hold the location with their fingertip.

"The CL65 is all about spreading the joy everywhere from anywhere," said Sang Jin Park, CEO, Samsung Digital Imaging Co. Ltd. "Never before has a manufacturer provided such a range of technologies in a compact digital camera, giving consumers unprecedented flexibility when it comes to how, when, and where they share their digital images. Geo-tagging keeps track of where the photographer has been, allowing them to quickly and easily share content with their network, while Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi capabilities allow for the simplest of uploads without needing a computer. This new powerhouse point-and-shoot camera will raise the bar for innovation and set a new standard by which all other manufacturers will be measured."

CL65 SPECIFICATIONS

Wireless Connectivity
Geo-Tagging
The CL65 utilizes GPS technology to automatically geo-tag digital images, recording the latitude and longitude of where in the world each photo is taken. The location data is automatically embedded into each image's EXIF file. Photo-sharing websites such as Picasa™ provide options for sharing one's images on a map of the world and can utilize the information stored in the image's EXIF file to pinpoint where the photo was taken.

The CL65 will display the name of the city on the camera's LCD screen, providing users with a display of the location where they're taking a photo, as well as a handy reference for when they are reviewing images on the camera's LCD screen.

Bluetooth 2.0
Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity is also included, allowing users to share and transfer photos wirelessly and seamlessly. Using Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, you can beam your favorite digital images from the CL65 directly to compatible devices, such as mobile phones. When using Bluetooth 2.0, the CL65 will automatically resize the digital image to best fit the resolution of the host screen it will be displayed on.

Wi-Fi and DLNA
The CL65 is DLNA compliant (Digital Living Network Alliance), allowing the camera to wirelessly connect to other DLNA compliant devices, such as HDTVs. This gives the CL65 user the ability to move content from their camera to other consumer electronics devices throughout their home. To maximize speed and efficiency, all images transferred through Wi-Fi will be reduced to a resolution of two mega-pixels.

The CL65 makes it easy for users to upload or share their digital images with others right from their digital camera. Through Wi-Fi, users can send a digital image to any email address stored in your camera's address book or by using the camera's touch-screen QWERTY keypad. The CL65's Wi-Fi connection also allows users to upload their images directly to popular websites such as Facebook®, Picasa™ and YouTube®.

Smart Gesture User Interface (UI)
When it comes to smart, user-friendly features, the CL65 leads the way. Take for example the camera's innovative Smart Gesture UI with built-in Gravity sensor, which lets you quickly access and use key features with either a simple tap or a hand gesture.

Using other advanced features is just as simple. With the Smart Gesture UI you can quickly scroll through your photos by slightly tilting the device in either direction or by selecting the appropriate photos for a slide show. You can also easily delete photos from your library using Smart Gesture UI by marking an "X" on the screen using your finger, or you can simply save your favorite photos into a separate folder. Additionally, if you want to rotate an image, you can draw a circle (O) on the screen, and if you want to see the next image in your library you can drag it on to the screen with a sweep of your finger or by simply tilting the device.

3.5" Wide Touch-Screen Back LCD
The 3.5" wide touch-screen LCD located on the back of the CL65 displays some of the sharpest images of any camera available today. This ultra-wide LCD offers a 1,152K resolution, almost four times more resolution than other traditional camera displays. Unlike other digital cameras, the LCD touch-screen uses Samsung's unique haptic technology, providing users with a slight vibration and audible beep whenever they select an option within the touch-screen display.

Advanced Dual Image Stabilization (IS)
Samsung's Advanced Dual Image Stabilization (IS) technology allows you to capture crystal clear, blur-free images. The CL65's true Dual IS combines both Optical and Digital Image stabilizers to produce sharp images without the confusion commonly found in other cameras. The Optical IS intelligently compensates for hand trembling by shifting the lens in the opposite direction. When Optical IS isn't quite enough, the Digital IS automatically takes over to ensure blur-free images.

HD Video Recording
Besides the ability to take high-quality digital still images, the CL65 also offers impressive 720P HD video recording at 30 frames per second. The CL65 uses H.264, which allows you to record twice as much content as MPEG4 format, and four times more than MJPEG, the format typically used in other digital cameras. The CL65 also offers HDMI connectivity (adapter sold separately) so that you can enjoy your HD video, as well as digital still images, on an HDTV or HD monitor.

Smart Auto
Samsung's Smart Auto feature ensures that users never have to worry about their photos being washed out, too dark, or out of focus. Smart Auto analyzes key elements of your composition such as color, brightness, motion, and subject and then automatically selects the appropriate scene mode which will produce the best results possible.

Smart Album
With Samsung's convenient Smart Album feature, you can quickly scroll through your entire library of images and organize them in the way that's best for you. This unique feature allows you to organize photos by Location (if geo-tagged), Favorite (if tagged as a "favorite" photo), Face (someone you've taken many photos of), Timeline (date photos were taken), Week, Color, and Content (photos, videos, voice-note).

Perfect Portrait System
Picture-perfect moments at their best
Samsung's Perfect Portrait System takes the guess work out of shooting beautiful portraits. Key features of this system are Samsung's Smile Shot and Blink Detection technologies which automatically detect when your subjects are smiling and if their eyes are closed, allowing you to capture them looking their best. Another advanced feature is the Red-eye Fix mode. This in camera feature fixes the typical red-eye associated with the use of the flash, before the photo is produced, a significant time saver as you don't have to spend time afterwards removing red-eyes from your photos.

Smart Touch Shooting and Auto-Focus
Sometimes the focal point of your picture is not always in the center of the frame. In cases like this, the CL65's Smart Touch Auto Focus feature allows you to focus on a different part of the shot by simply touching the desired area. That means your subject, no matter where in the frame it may be, will always be in focus. Once you've selected the focal point, you can simply leave your finger on the screen for two seconds or push the shutter button to take the picture.

Smart Face Recognition
The CL65 features Samsung's advanced Face Recognition technology which automatically stores up to 20 preferred faces to the camera's internal memory. While taking a portrait, the CL65 will automatically recognize if one of the user's preferred faces is in the frame and identify them as a priority for focus and exposure. Users can also save time sorting through their photos by searching only for those that contain a specific face.

Beauty Shot
Samsung's Beauty Shot feature lets you remove all the imperfections on your subject's face such as wrinkles, blemishes and moles. Simply select one of two editing options to even out skin tone and complexion.

Photo Style Selector and Highlight Feature
The CL65 is designed to help you enhance your creativity when it comes to digital imaging. Samsung's Photo Style Selector allows you to transform your photos from simple memories to works of art. Choose from a wide selection of artistic treatments ranging from classic black and white to something more vivid, giving you full control over the color tones of your image. Additionally, with Samsung's unique highlight feature, you can focus on one area of your photo and blur everything around it, turning a normal photo into something much more complex.

Camera lets everyone see

The Nation has posted a review for Samsung ST550 digital camera.

The front LCD screen is blended into the shiny black body of the camera. You can tap it gently to activate the front LCD screen or you can use the menu on the back touch screen to activate the front screen.
The front LCD screen assures you that you will always be properly framed. And when the front LCD is used in self-portrait mode, the camera activates its smile detection technology and the camera will automatically fire when a smile is detected.
And when dual views are used in child mode, the front LCD will play a fun animation program to capture the child's attention, so he or she will look at the camera.
Dual views can also be used in shutter info mode to alert your subject to smile when you press the shutter button half way down.
The camera features 12.2 megapixel resolution. Its 27mm wide-angle lens in 35mm equivalent, with a 4.6x optical zoom makes it good for scenery shots.
During the tests, we found the camera took good quality shots. The pictures are sharp and clear, especially when they are taken in a well-lit environment.
One of our staff took the ST550 on a trip to Korea and captured good quality, colourful shots.
Its smart auto mode worked well by selecting proper scene modes automatically. For example, it correctly selected scenery mode when I took photos of outdoor scenes and selected portrait mode when I shot faces of my subjects.
We especially like its beauty shot mode. The camera fires a bright flash to lighten a subject's face, making the skin appear smooth and giving a youthful appearance.
The camera also has advanced dual-image stabilisation for ensuring blur-free shots in most environments. But the camera will warn you if its limit has been reached at any particular shutter speed.
The camera is also equipped with "smart gesture", which allows a user to quickly scroll through the photos by tilting the device in either direction or by selecting the appropriate photos for a slide show.
Its 3.5-inch touch-screen back LCD is good for reviewing the shots.
The Samsung ST550 retails for Bt11,990.

Samsung's HMX-U10 Pocket Video Camcorder

The DigitalCamera-HQ posted a review about Samsung HMX-U10 camcorder as follows:

The Samsung SMX-U10 is a new pocket camcorder that goes head-to-head with the Flip Ultra and Kodak Zx1. The U10 can (allegedly) do full 1080p video and 10-megapixel still photos. That's big talk; whether it can back it up with real quality isn't clear.

Though dominant, the Flip series of pocket camcorders is somewhat lacking. In our reviews of the Flip Ultra, Flip MinoHD, and Flip UltraHD, we've made note of several features that we wish these camcorders had, or that we felt that they had no good excuse for not having.

In the meantime, competitors like Kodak have begun to address those concerns with their own pocket camcorders. In our review of the Kodak Zx1, we were very impressed with the company's efforts in expanding the potential of what has been a very barebones style to this point.

Now, Samsung has decided to enter the pocket camcorder fray, and their initial model is (at least according to initially announced specifications), far beyond what one might expect.

Broader Features: Still Photos, Full HD

The biggest feature on the all-new Samsung HMX-U10 pocket camcorder is its resolution. The U10 offers full, 1080p high-definition video. No other (reputable) pocket camcorder can boast such a resolution, with the Flip and Kodak models topping out at 720p. Sony's "Webby" camcorders have tricky 1440 x 1080 pixel resolution, which they try to claim is full HD but isn't.

Common sense dictates that a camera with a manufacturer's retail price of $199, like the HMX-U10, should not be able to produce accurate, high-quality 1080p video. Because it's Samsung, we're willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but will remain skeptical until we can get our hands on a unit for review. The U10 uses H.264 video compression.

Convergence: 10-Megapixel Stills

Still photo functionality has been elusive on pocket camcorders, for reasons that are unclear. The Flip camcorders avoided it completely, one of our biggest criticisms of the brand. Kodak's Zx1 threw in a fairly adequate 3-megapixel still photo mode, which was a nice step forward. Samsung claims that the U10 will have a 10-megapixel still photo mode, which, just like the 1080p video, is a very big claim for such a small, inexpensive camcorder.

The U10's 10-megapixel photos will not look as good as a 10-megapixel photo from a true digital camera. For starters, the U10 has no optical zoom and (it seems) no image stabilization. 10 megapixels might just be overkill in a camcorder like this, but since it doesn't drive the price up too much, it's not much of a concern.

Conclusion: Wait and See

It's hard to pass judgment on the U10 without seeing it. Its bold claims strain credulity. If it does somehow manage to produce high-quality 1080p video and 10-megapixel stills, however, it's sure to completely blow open this market and send Flip back to the drawing board.

DualView camera makes taking your own pic easy

The USA Today has posted an article about Samsung's TL225 digital camera.

Clown animation on the front of the Samsung DualView TL225 camera is designed to get kids to smile for their photo. You can change the animation, too.

By Edward C. Baig, USA TODAYIn the social-networking age of Twitter and Facebook, lots of people snap self-portraits for online profiles and such. Samsung has designed a digital camera that promises to make it much easier to capture your own mug. The company's new DualView TL225 point-and-shoot, which I've enjoyed shooting with for several days, boasts a large, 3.5-inch LCD display on the back and a smaller, 1.5-inch screen on the front. My initial reaction was that this dual-screen, $350 compact must have gimmick written all over it. But the front display is practical, for much the same reason that self-portrait mirrors come in handy on some camera-phones. Moreover, people who own camcorders commonly flip their LCD displays to get a lens'-eye view of what's being shot.

There's nothing to flip or rotate on the Samsung the front LCD is embedded on the camera and isn't even visible until you tap the front of the camera. Tapping again makes it disappear. Through camera settings, you can always leave it on or off. You'll want to leave it off when you don't need it so as not to drain the battery.

The camera elicited positive reactions from the folks I photographed. Though far from perfect, it takes generally excellent pictures, especially outdoors. It's one of those cool "why didn't I think of that?" gadgets.

Here's a closer look:

Camera basics. You quickly come to appreciate the 27mm lens, wider than you usually see on a point-and-shoot. The 12.2-megapixel camera has a 4.6X optical zoom and image stabilization to reduce the shakes. There's also a slot for a memory card, but you'll have to supply your own and it is a MicroSD card rather than the SD card that's become a de facto standard on most compact cameras. You can snap only a few pictures using the camera's internal memory.

As with most point-and-shoots these days, the camera can shoot video, too, but you can't take advantage of the front display while capturing a scene. Through an optional adapter, you can connect it to a high-definition television or HD monitor, via HDMI. You can also record voice memos.

Samsung uses a proprietary USB cable for connecting the camera to a computer, printer or the supplied AC adapter for charging, so you best not forget it if you travel.

A mixed bag of tricks. The front display isn't just for shooting self-portraits. Your subjects may get a kick out of seeing their faces, too (and pose accordingly). When the self-timer is on, a 3-2-1 countdown cleverly reminds your group when to smile. The screen is small, though, so you won't see everything that's in the background of your shot.

A major challenge for many parents is getting kids to sit still for pictures. In Child Mode, you can use the front display to show them an animated video of a clown. With any luck, the youngsters will be enthralled just long enough for you to get them to flash a grin.

My kids found the clown amusing, but I worry about how quickly the thrill will fade. Starting in October, Samsung will wisely let you download new animations for free. Only one animation can exist on the camera at a time.

The camera also makes use of smartphonelike finger gestures with "haptic" vibration feedback that lets you know that your menu selections have been registered. You can flick the back display to move from one picture you're viewing to the next. You can "draw" a circle to rotate an image. And you can also draw an X on the back screen to delete a photo the gesture I found the most useful. If you have second thoughts, you can resurrect deleted images from a recycle bin (so long as you have enough memory).

Yet another trick: The camera can automatically identify smiling faces and can snap the shutter at the opportune moment. Blink detection is supposed to recognize when a subject's eyes are shut, but I couldn't get it to work. As with many other state-of-the-art shooters, it also has face detection and numerous shooting modes.

Samsung DualView TL225

The PC Magazine has posted an aritlce about Samsung TL225 digital camera.

It's not easy for a camera manufacturer to come up with that one killer feature that will set its shooter apart from the crowded pack. Samsung has done just that with by adding an LCD to the front of the 12.2-megapixel Samsung DualView TL225 ($349.99 list). Acting as a forward-facing viewfinder, the second display gives you an easy way to capture self-portraits. An innovative idea, but you can't help but wonder if this camera is a one-trick pony.
Thankfully, it's not—the combination of an excellent user interface, a high-resolution 3.5-inch, touch-screen LCD, and stellar image quality help make the TL225 our latest Editors' Choice point-and-shoot camera.

Measuring 2.4 by 3.9 by .73 (HWD), the TL225's thin body is a sleek black with a ring of color (purple, orange, red or blue), and doesn't include many physical controls. Along the top of the camera, you'll find the shutter release, a Power button, a Play button, and a Zoom slider. With its $299.95 (list) Coolpix S60, Nikon made the mistake of omitting physical Zoom controls, instead putting the Zoom slider on the touch screen, which makes zooming much more difficult when you're framing shots. With a focal length of 27-124.2mm (35mm equivalent) and maximum aperture of f/3.5-5.9, the TL225 offers an impressive 4.6x zoom range. The 27mm wide-angle lens is a nice addition; you can fit more into the frame without having to further distance yourself from your subject.

Two Displays are Better than OneWhile the camera's bonus front LCD is the attention grabber here, the 3.5-inch touch-screen display that dominates the back panel is also very impressive. With 1,152K dots and 800-by-480-pixel resolution, it's the sharpest display you'll find on any camera. Its resolution even trumps the LCDs on high-end smartphones like the Apple iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. By comparison, top-tier point-and-shoot cameras, like the $330 Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T700, typically include 230K-dot displays, while high-end D-SLRs, such as the Canon EOS Rebel T1i ($899.99 list) usually pack 921K dots. Images on the TL225's LCD are incredibly crisp with excellent contrast and color. In my tests, I never had any trouble seeing the display while indoors or in bright sunlight. The screen also offers haptic feedback, so the camera vibrates gently when you press one of its on-screen buttons, so you know you've made contact. The touch-screen is extremely responsive and navigating the user interface is a breeze.

At 1.5-inches, the front-facing LCD is small and with 61K dots, it's significantly lower-resolution than the main display, but it's more than enough to let you know if you and your buddies are in the frame. The LCD is located to the left of the lens, and tapping it turns it on and off. Also, it turns on automatically when one of three front-display-enabled shooting modes are activated: Self Portrait, Self Timer, or Children. The latter of which shows an animated clown intended to get kids to smile for the camera. (Heck, it even worked on me!)

Performance ResultsSpeed results for the TL225 are a mixed bag: You can power up the camera and snap a picture in an average of 2.28 seconds, while the wait time between shots is only 2.37 seconds. Using Shooting Digital's Shutter Lag Test, the TL225 averaged an underwhelming .63 seconds for shutter press to image capture. This is a bit of a drag considering that the $330 Canon PowerShot SD980 IS cuts this time down to .44 seconds, while the very-speedy Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 ($280) averaged just .32 seconds of lag.

The camera takes fantastic pictures and thus showed good results in our photo lab. Imatest indicated some distortion at each lens position, but not enough to cause images to warp significantly. At its wide-angle position (27mm), 1.67 percent of the image is affected by barrel distortion. The Panasonic ZR1 had similar results at its widest angle (25mm) with 1.70 percent; distortion nearly doubled to 2.97 percent with the Canon SD980 IS (at 24mm). There's some pincushion distortion at the TL225's telephoto position, but it's insignificant at 1.34 percent.

Shots taken with the TL225 are sharp at the center of the frame, averaging 2116 lines per picture height. Moving towards the outside regions, the sharpness drops by 42 percent–better than the Canon SD980's 56 percent drop or the 52 percent drop with the Panasonic ZR1. The TL225 does a fine job of handling noise too. In my tests, the camera produced usable images up to ISO 800.

The TL225 can shoot 720p high-definition video at 30 frames per second. Like its sibling, the Samsung SL820, footage from the TL225 looks and sounds great, but audio is muted while zooming to avoid picking up the lens motor hum. Also, if you use the optical zoom while recording, the lens can't refocus.

Using a proprietary HDMI cable, the camera can display high-def video on an HDTV, and even supports Consumer Electronics Control (CEC), so you can use your compatible television remote to navigate through the menus on the attached camera. Like the HDMI cable, the USB cable also includes a proprietary connector, but the camera can also charge its battery via USB. The Canon SD980 IS includes standard mini USB and mini HDMI ports, which are more convenient, and the accompanying cables are easier to replace.

The TL225 writes to microSDHC cards, omitting the standard SDHC card slot found in most other digital cameras. Used in most cell phones, I wouldn't be surprised to see microSDHC become commonplace in digital cameras in the near future. But if you have standard-size SD or SDHC cards from an old camera, you're out of luck here.

We don't formally test camera battery life, but you should keep in mind that the TL225 does have two LCDs, and one of them is a big, high-res screen that could potentially suck a lot of power. While it wasn't a huge problem, I did have to charge my TL225 a couple of times during the week-long test period.

With solid image quality, an incredibly sharp and responsive touch-screen LCD, and an innovative front-mounted display for self-portraits, the Samsung DualView TL225 delivers a stellar shooting experience, so it's our latest Editors' Choice point-and-shoot camera. But if $350 is out of your price range, Samsung offers a more-affordable DualView camera, the TL220 ($299.99 list), with the same feature set save for HDMI connectivity and an ultra-high resolution display.

Edgy Digital Camera Samsung ST1000(CL65) : GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Here is a user review for Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

Edgy Digital Camera Samsung ST1000(CL65) with GPS, Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth

Before the release in Korea, quick Gogossing got a chance to experience the ST1000(CL65). Oh ho!

I can’t wait to experience the compact digital camera, ST1000(CL65) with everything: GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The ST1000(CL65) with 12.2 M pixels, 5X optical zoom and Scheider lens

The Schneider lens is a very neat inner zoom lens.

Gogossing will experience this red color.

I like red color so much. I feel great just looking at the ST1000(CL65)!

This is the back of the ST1000(CL65)!

Are you surprised with the non-button? It’s 3.5-inch wide touch LCD.

These are the ST1000(CL65) family, which is very small as it is a sample before releasing in the Korean market.

Memory, Micro SD card and adapter (and USB cable) are all but the commercial model will have A/V cable, manual, CD and etc, I think.

Power, shutter, zoom lever and play button are meticulously placed on top right of the ST1000(CL65).

I opened the battery cover at the bottom and put the battery in it.

If you look at it closely, there is a very small slot. This slot is for Micro SD.

Samsung ST1000(CL65) has a Micro SD instead of the regular SD card.

When you want to connect it to a computer, you can simply insert the Micro SD card into the enclosed SD adapter.

It is a subject on the large 3.5-inch LCD. How large the LCD is!

Auto, P, Smart Auto, Dual is, Beauty Shot, different scene modes, HD movie and etc. will be introduced next time.

The best asset for the edgy digital camera Samsung ST1000(CL65) must be GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, isn’t it?

If you connect with wireless network, you can upload photos right away to You Tube, Picasa or Face Book.

In addition, you can e-mail photos or share them using Bluetooth.

The GPS of the ST1000(CL65) allows you to save geographical information when you take a photo and mark it on a map!

This is an essential feature for me who love traveling a lot.

Next time, I’ll show you great photos taken by this edgy digital camera ST1000(CL65)!

First Rendezvous with Samsung’s Strategic Camera ST1000(CL65)

Here is a user review for Samsung ST1000(CL65) digital camera.

It happened that I became one of the Samsung camera experience group members. Personally I do not like being paid for doing something though. However, my blood type is B so I say what I have to say even though I’m remunerated for my service.

Therefore, I have no intention of fawning too much and I don’t think anyone should do it. So I guess my reviews will be worth as information.

The camera of which I will be reviewing is the ST1000(CL65), one of Samsung’s strategic cameras in second half of the year. If you are interested in cameras, you must have seen an article…

You will find a lot of related articles if you search CL65, the overseas model name.

Above all, thanks to the powerful built-in wireless function, the ST1000(CL65) differentiates itself from other products by sharing photos with a social site without a PC.

GPS allows you to record location information on a photo and you can share photos with websites via Wi-Fi and you can freely send photos to a cell phone or other Bluetooth appliances thanks to an onboard Bluetooth. Isn’t that so cool? Wow! I can’t wait any more!

Now shall we see some photos of the product? I’m quite good at taking a photo of a product.

This is the front image. It does kind of look like aluminum but it’s plastic. However I don’t think it is a regular material but it looks like a reinforced plastics, I guess.

There is a mark ‘GPS’ on the front and ‘Wi-Fi’ on the back, but I couldn’t find a mark ‘Bluetooth’. It, however, surely supports Bluetooth!

This is the back image. The LCD is very large, isn’t it? The size is 3.5-inch and the design is very neat because there is no button thanks to the full touch LCD.

One thing I don’t like is that they did not use SD card as a memory as usual but used MicroSD card. It is a pretty excellent choice in terms of compatibility with the cell phone but the price to capacity does not come up with SD card. Personally I don’t like the small size for fear of losing it.

I now turned the camera on. Isn’t the blue light around the power button pretty? This may be called ‘edgy’? And take a look at the features shown on the back LCD. Personally I do not like a touch interface but for the camera, it is very instinctive and easy to use.

As this product is a sample for the experience group, there is no other accessory but an adapter and cable for charge. Although differently from the previous Samsung digital camera, it is not 24 pin cable for cell phone, I like the USB type of adapter. I really hate to carry a heavy adapter when I travel.

SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65) - 1/45s F3.6 ISO320

This is a photo I took first as soon as I received the camera under auto mode. I simply re-sized.

It is a little difficult for me to say that the noise suppression is good even though it is ISO 320. However, I can say that the auto white balance is pretty precise while it was dark indoor and the color reappearance is not bad. If you ask me how I can opine about the color reappearance with the white desk and cup, well…

Having used it for the last couple of days, it surely made me to cast away my prejudice over the Samsung camera that I had before only looking at the photo performance. It really became much better and can compete with some renowned Japanese digital camera. Well, it still may be difficult to compete with other manufacturers.

One of the reasons I wanted to buy the iPhone was that I can share photos immediately with internet. Now, I can say to the iPhone ‘Go away’!

All the features of this camera made it possible. If you read my postings, SNS users will probably buy this camera, I presume. Your kind attention to my four coming reviews of the features will be highly appreciated.

SAMSUNG HMX-U10

Here is a user review for Samsung U10 full HD camcorder.

1. Point & Shoot Full HD CAM

Point & Shoot Full-HD Ultra slim Camcorder

Mobile phones? MP3 players? Recently, slim pocket HD camcorders have been getting more popular. They look different and weird, but allow users to carry them for all day long with a slim and cute design, great videos, and UCC sharing system. You don’t need to open a bag or things like that as you did with other camcorders. You can just take it out from your pocket and shoot. They are active and fast to shoot. There are some Point and Shoot HD camcorders in the world such as Flip from PB, Z series from Kodak, and Webbie from Sony. Especially, in the USA, these P&S HD camcorders are quite popular these days. It’s because its simplicity to shoot and share as a camcorder. Samsung also has started to produce a P&S camcorder with the HMX-U10 having 1/2.3” 10M sensor.

Compared with 1440x1080 30p or 720p of other camcorders, far more outstanding video quality of the U10 comes from the 1/2.3” 10M CMOS sensor. The U10 will be a leading product in the domestic market of the Full HD P&S camcorder, I think. Simply taking anything in a Full-HD quality and sharing with the U10. The Full-HD quality is quite surprising and vivid. The control of 10M still image and video shot is so easy with their separate buttons. Especially, the ergonomic design of 7 degree angle allows users very comfortable grip and the body is the slimmest among all the Full HD camcorders in the world.

Supporting 60 fps on 720p or 480p is impressive. Dual recharging type with USB and AC adapter, light weight, convenient sharing system with the built-in Intelli-Studio, and simple interface based on Full HD videos are remarkable. It’s a quite charming product as a P&S camcorder with great portability like a mobile phone and its quality.

Beyond the imagine, Full HD quality

You can’t look down it by looking at the small size. I expected the great quality by looking at the specification of the sensor, but the real quality of the Full-HD was as great as other normal camcorders. It’s a real Full HD video totally different from videos of 1440x1080 resolution. It has some functional limits such as no zoom and 1.3m of distance from subjects, but it’s not easy for you to see this great snap camcorder supporting high quality with light. Compared to the small size, it shows the best Full HD video quality.

Samsung ST1000(CL65) with built-in GPS

Here is a user review for Samsung ST1000(CL65) digital camera.

GPS is now in the digital camera, too.

Because of built-in WiFi, a photo taken can be instantly uploaded to a website like Picasa, YouTube, Facebook and etc..

Because of built-in Bluetooth, you can send a photo to a laptop computer, cell phone, PMP and etc. with built-in Bluetooth.

Thanks to DLNA support, you can send data wirelessly to TV or PC that support the relevant function.

Of course, you can email images directly from the camera.

It also gives you information on location where you took a picture. You can’t lie with a photo now.

I made my own ST1000(C65) with masking tape stripe.

You can download a software for the Samsung ST1000(CL65) to check photos. On the photos you took with GPS on can you see a mark, ‘map’. If you click ‘Map’ on the top, you can see an address and map as follows.

There are four types of items like ‘Map’, ‘Satellite’, ‘Overlap’ and ‘Topography’.

It supports a large 3.5-inch touchscreen entirely around the back.

The ST1000(CL65) has a slim and simple design with its cutting edge features.

I’ll show you the strengths of the ST1000(CL65) later but please enjoy some sample photos I took.

Receive Samsung New Camera, ST1000(CL65) with built-in GPS and WIFI.

Here is a user review for Samsung ST1000(CL65) digital camera with built-in GPS and WIFI.

I got an opportunity to use a Samsung new camera as a VLUU Grapher. So I’ll experience the Samsung new camera ST1000(CL65) for about 6 weeks. At the last 6th week, I will travel overseas and use GPS there.

If you want to know what is the greatest trait of the ST1000(CL65), I may say it’s the built-in GPS and WI-FI included. A 3.5-inch touchcreen and ‘Haptic’ feature are attractive but more than that, I couldn’t wait to see the onboard GPS as I had used a GPS Logger for records at the last trip. In fact, I was curious about the new concept before the two new Samsung products, ST550(TL225) and ST1000(CL65) were released. It was the dual LCD on both sides of the ST550(TL225) and the ST100(CL65) with built-in GPS and Wi-Fi.

Having seen such a good reaction from overseas, it seems that no one would object to the fact that this is a camera of new idea. I also was so glad at the compact camera with an onboard GPS.

The ST1000(CL65) has adopted SLB-11A battery and MicroSD. I like the Samsung battery because of its reasonable price compared with other brands but it is a pity about the MicroSD. Although they say that MicroSD is included because of the machinery issue, it is obvious that an adapter has to be carried with and it will not be fast enough. However, when I took a picture, I actually didn’t feel that slow than I thought.

On the top side of the camera is there a reception part with the mark ‘GPS. I’m testing it with my GPS Logger and I guess the reception is average. When you travel overseas, you will go outside a lot. So once you are in receipt, then you will be fine. However as this is not always on for reception like GPS Logger, you may use this camera in a different way than the regular camera in order to take a picture using the GPS feature.

I’ll tell you more about this next time.

While the ST550(TL225) has a protruding lens, the ST1000(CL65) has an inner zoom. Although the inner zoom lens must not have the quality as good as a bigger aperture, some photos I took for testing show a much better quality than existing models. Various aspects have been upgraded along with upgrading the model.

The rear area of the ST1000(CL65) is of a 3.5 inch touchscreen. It can recognize a little larger area of a touch than I thought but you will get used to it. It is very convenient that you can check each photo you take right away on the large screen. Also, operating can be mostly done by touch and a trendy Haptic is applied so that it allows you to utilize all the features very conveniently.

The slightly protruding buttons are limited to Power, Shutter, Zoom and See Photo, and all other remaining items can be operated by touching the screen. Of them, a shooting mode can be easily changed only by pressing the centre button and tilting it to the direction you wish. At first, it was new to me but once I got used to it, it became so much convenient to move between the modes. Personally I used movie and program modes repeatedly.

There are four icons on the screen: from top right, Haptic, GPS, Wi-Fi and Menu. I just explained the Haptic and for GPS, it takes time to get reception at cold start. Once it is in receipt, it does not take a long time to receive a signal after turning off and then on. However if you want to record GPS always, you’d better not to turn your camera off since it does not receive GPS instantly after turning off and on. Otherwise, as an option, you can record the previously received locations when it is not in receipt.

Of the different Wi-Fi features, an interesting thing is that you can e-mail photos when a wireless signal is received. It is fun to send interesting photos to a friend on a trip. Of course it is only possible where the internet connectivity is good overseas and Wi-FI is open but it is just so much fun to use it.

Furthermore, you can give and take photos between cameras, camera and computer and via Bluetooth and etc. I can see that Samsung tried to provide a lot of conveniences in different ways.

Most of Samsung cameras have a connector without a separate battery charger like this. Such a simple adapter composition is always welcome because it helps reduce trip load.

If you use frequently Wi-Fi or GPS always during a trip, I was told that the battery drains so quickly. When you go around to take a picture all day, you may need 3 batteries at least. If you want to travel, it seems that you need a lot of batteries. Thanks to the GPS, you can mark a place where you took a photo on like the Google map. I will be able to have more interesting photo life once I get used to the GPS and its various features.

Although it is a camera of double-edged sword having the innovative functions of GPS and Wi-Fi and also quickly draining battery, I think it will be pretty much appealing to people who are interested in these appliances as you can turn the GPS off if you take a photo in Korea or that simply you don’t need it, or travelers don’t need a GPS Logger separately.

I’ll have to play with this camera a lot more.

Samsung's HMX-H106 Full HD camcorder with 64GB SSD takes first peek at retail

The Engadget posted a review about Samsung H106 full HD camcorder.

Here's one that might trigger an electrical pulse across the synapses, Samsung's HMX-H106. This tiny Full HD camcorder with a 64GB SSD tooling about its inanimate innards has been quietly preparing for May launch ever since its reveal back in January at CES. That's enough storage for an impressive 12 hours of 1920 x 1080 pixel video with further expansion by SD/SDHC card. Word has it that it launched this morning in its hometown Korea and is set for a May 22nd Stateside launch according Amazon.com. 900 bucks for a H.264 camcorder with an optical image stabilized Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens touting a 10x zoom and 37mm wide-angle focal length -- is that new baby worth it?

Samsung ST550(TL225) technology article on the New York Times

talknews_092_title

In the latest article by David Pogue, from the world’s popular New York Times, the dual LCD-powered Samsung ST550(TL225) is being introduced, as a camera, which rewrites the camera formula.

The article rather deals with the technologies and technical specifications than a real review about the Samsung ST550(TL225).
However, maybe especially due to the mentioned reason, we’re proud that our new cutting edge technology gets acknowledged by such a big media.

Besides the basic features, which are all known to us such as the 12.2 megapixel 27mm wide angle Schneider KREUZNACH lens, 4.6x optical zoom, the HDMI jack, David Pogue highlights and highly praises the dual LCD and its possibilities.

While the screen is obviously invisible, when deactivated, it may provide the majority of people with a great camera to play around.
With features such as the “Self-Portrait”-shot, child-mode or the countdown mode, the ST550(Tl225) provides the user with the edge, to maximize the digital experience.

As for the highly sensitive haptic touch-screen, the possibility to basically draw your commands, also gained a lot of attention.

Cameras That Dazzle, and Dismay

The New York Times has posted an article about Samsung ST550 digital camera as follows:

There are celebrations when a war ends, but sometimes confusion, too. The sense of purpose, the unifying morale lift, maybe even the economic boost, are over.
That was certainly the case during the Great Megapixel Wars of 1996-2007. During these years, the world’s camera companies fought doggedly for our hearts and minds, using megapixel count as a weapon. “Ours takes 6 megapixel photos!” “Ours takes 8!” And we marched to their orders, buying a new camera every other year just to keep up.

Now that that war has ended (the megapixel race has pretty much stopped at around 12) the camera companies find themselves flailing for new sales points. Cameras these days have more bells and whistles than a marching band: image stabilizers, superlong zooms, hi-def video, waterproof cases, face recognition, smile detection, even blink detection.
This month, though, some kind of line has been crossed. Two new cameras from Nikon and Samsung don’t just tinker with the camera formula, they rewrite it. One adds a second screen; the other adds a built-in projector.

Actually, Samsung’s DualView TL225 and TL220 cameras introduce two radical elements: a screen on the front and a gesture-and-tilt vocabulary for controlling the thing. (The TL225, priced at $350, has a 3.5-inch back screen, brushed-metal body and HDMI jack for a hi-def TV; the TL220, $300, has a 3-inch screen, plastic body and no HDMI.) What draws the most attention, of course, is that 1.5-inch front screen.

When the screen is turned off, it’s invisible. It vanishes completely into the camera’s smoky-dark case. When you turn it on (by tapping that empty spot with your finger), however, it’s capable of performing several ingenious stunts.

The obvious one is framing self-portraits. On ordinary cameras, that’s a matter of guesswork, or of handing the camera to passing strangers and praying they won’t just run away with it. On the DualView, you can see precisely how the shot is framed, how your expression looks and whether you’ve got spinach in your teeth.

Actually, why not use it even when you’re not taking self-portraits? Shouldn’t everyone have some say in what your pictures of them look like?

When you dial up Kid mode — one of the camera’s 13 canned sets of scene settings — the screen does something else clever: it displays a crude Japanese-style cartoon animation. (The camera comes with a clown animation; 20 more are available as free downloads.) It’s supposed to capture the attention of younger subjects, so that they face the camera.

It works like a charm (except in bright sunlight, where it’s nearly bleached out). Even older children are captivated, if only by the presence of a video screen on a pocket camera. Close-range photos sometimes reveal the telltale off-axis look of a child who was looking at a spot beside the lens, not into it, but it beats calling out, “Tyler! Hey Tyler! Look here! Hey Tyler!” for the 14th time.

The little front screen can also display a countdown in self-timer mode, current flash or macro settings, or a smiley face when you press the shutter, to cue your subjects when it’s time to pretend to be happy.

The question is: do self-portraits and child shots occur frequently enough to justify the higher price of this camera? (Rival touch-screen cameras cost $50 to $100 less.)

Before you answer, there’s more invention in the DualView than just the second screen. The huge, bright touch screen works really well, but what’s new is how you can control this camera, quickly and precisely, by tipping it and drawing on its screen.

For example, you draw a big X on a photo to delete it. You draw a circle, clockwise or counterclockwise, to rotate it. In playback mode, you advance to the next picture either by flicking your finger across the screen, iPhone style, or by giving the camera a little shake.
Cooler yet, you can switch modes — to movie mode and back, for example — by twitching the camera up, down or left while pressing a button with your thumb. It takes a couple of minutes to master, but it’s a genuine advance in the evolution of gadget controls, and wow, is it cool.

The CrunchGear has posted a review about Samsung SMX-U10 ful lHD camcorder as follows.

Samsung’s rolling out some new camcorders today: The full HD Flip-like HMX-U10 and the SMX-K40 and SMX-K45 cameras that record at 720×480 resolution and then upscale the footage for playback on an HDTV using an HDMI cable.

u10

Samsung announces new camcorders that put HD video recording and viewing in the palm of your hand

Seoul (Korea Newswire) July 14, 2009 06:15 PM — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today introduced new camcorders that make recording and viewing video in HD easy. The HMX-U10 is an ultra compact camcorder that records in full-HD and takes 10 mega-pixel still photos. It also allows users to easily share content online with its one-touch “upload” button to YouTubeTM. The SMX-K40, SMX-44 and SMX-K45 record video in standard definition but then upscale the footage to near full-HD when viewing through an HDMI output (cable sold separately). These new models join Samsung’s second-half camcorder lineup for 2009, which includes the recently introduced SMX-C10 and SMX-C14.

“We want to make it easy for everyone, from the young family of four to the tech-savvy professional, to record and view HD footage,” said Sang Ryong Kim, senior vice president of Camcorder Team at Samsung Electronics. “The addition of the HMX-U10 and the K-Series adds strength to an already impressive lineup of Samsung camcorders and offers a digital video recording solution for every consumer segment.”

HMX-U10

The HMX-U10 is the ideal solution for the consumer looking for ultimate portability and ease?of?use in an full HD camcorder. The HMX-U10 offers full-HD video recording with 1920×1080 resolution. The HMX-U10’s 1/2.3 inch CMOS sensor also gives consumers the ability to capture impressive 10 mega-pixel digital still images, all which can be reviewed on the camcorder’s clear, two-inch LCD screen. This same ergonomic design philosophy is also found in the HMX-R10 and SMX-C10 camcorders, which feature Samsung’s unique Active Angle Lens.

K-Series: SMX-K40, SMX-K44 and SMX-K45

Advanced Upscaling Technology for Full HD Video Quality

With the new K-Series, consumers can enjoy near full-HD quality video for the price of a standard definition camcorder. The SMX-K40, SMX-K44 and SMX-K45 record exceptional standard definition video at a resolution of 720×480, and then can be played back on an HDTV in near full-HD quality thanks to advanced upscaling technology and HDMI connectivity. With a built-in HDMI output on the camcorder and HDMI cable (sold separately), consumers connect the camcorder directly to their HDTV for near full-HD playback.

Powerful 65x Intelli-Zoom

The SMX-K40, SMX-K44 and SMX-K45 also offer one of Samsung’s most powerful zoom lenses. Consumers have a 65x Intelli-Zoom at their fingertips which drastically enhances their ability to capture any moment they see no matter how far away they may be. Significantly more reliable than a standard digital zoom which negatively affects the quality of the image, Samsung’s new Intelli-Zoom allows users to go beyond the camcorder’s 52x optical zoom. The K-Series also features Samsung’s advanced Optical Image Stabilizer, ensuring that video will be shake-free, whether zoomed out or using the camcorder at it’s full 65x Intelli-Zoom. Furthermore, the camcorder’s world?class Schneider?KREUZNACH lens delivers the quality and performance needed to help capture the most impressive video possible.

Built-in 32GB SSD for over 20 Hours Recording

The SMX-K45 offers an internal 32GB Solid State Drive (SSD), providing up to 20 hours and 40 minutes of recording time depending on the recording mode. Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder. SSD is more energy efficient, produces very low heat emission, and is faster and more durable than HDD because there are no moving parts. The SMX-K44 offers an internal 16GB SSD and SMX-K40 does not have internal storage and requires the use the of a SD/SDHC card.

Unique Features

The new HMX-U10 and K-Series follow in the footsteps of the newly introduced SMX-C10 and SMX-C14 and boast several unique features which differentiate them from the competition and make video recording even more enjoyable for consumers. Such features include Samsung’s built-in intelli-studio software, animated thumbnails, and a versatile charging system.

No longer do consumers need to worry about being near their home computer in order to edit or share their video. The HMX-U10 and the K-Series all feature Samsung’s play-edit-sharing program called intelli?studio. The camcorders’ built-in intelli-studio program allows consumers to turn any computer into a mobile studio, giving them the ability to edit and play their video without having to install supporting software. Sharing is also simplified using intelli-studio as the program takes the hassle out of uploading content to popular video?sharing Web sites. For example, a one-touch “upload” button, available directly on the HMX-U10, provides a direct connection to YouTube™, further reducing the number of steps needed to upload footage. In addition, the camcorders also allow basic on-camera editing, including the ability to split video files.

Samsung’s animated thumbnail feature simplifies the way users search for video clips. Each video clip saved on the camcorder is represented by a small thumbnail on the LCD screen. When scrolling through one’s videos, each thumbnail will provide a short playback of the video file when highlighted by the user. The HMX-U10, and SMX-K40, SMX-K44 and SMX-K45 also feature a versatile charging system. Users can either recharge the battery by connecting the camcorder to the supplied AC adapter or via USB while the camcorder is connected to a computer.

SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65) Preview (GPS , Wi-Fi , Bluetooth)

Here is a user review for SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65: GPS , Wi-Fi , Bluetooth).

Samsung’s new product ST1000(CL65), change the photographic paradigm

I’m so delighted to receive the gold black one that I wanted the most of the five colors for the ST1000(CL65).

The ST1000(CL65) is a new life-log digital camera with built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The product is not released yet but I had a great chance to receive a marketing sample.

The front design of the SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65)

From the front, you can see 12.2M pixels, 5x zoom, Schneider inner zoom lens, GPS and etc.

The size of the Samsung ST1000(CL65) is 99.8mm * 60.8mm * 18.9mm.

It felt comfortable in even my big hand.

The rear design of the SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65)

From the rear, you can see 3.5 inch wide touch screen.

It felt so good to the touch.

ST1000(CL65) Sample Image

ST1000(CL65) Sample Image

ST1000(CL65) Sample Image

I was very surprised at the GPS function, which I like the most from the ST1000(CL65).

However, if you turn on the GPS, the battery will quickly drain, so you might need a spare battery for a trip.

That was my short preview of the SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65).

Although I still need to learn a lot, I’ll try my best to take a good picture as many as possible with the SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65).

I will go on a journey with the Samsung ST1000(CL65)! August 19 - 22 2009.

Here is a user review for Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

My name is Jutti who started to become a Samsung VLUU grapher.

I received the Samsung camera ST1000(CL65) for VLUU grapher activities. I just started to use it for a couple of days. The ST1000(CL65) is a travel camera for travelers like Jutti!

The pocket-sized digital camera I wanted so much! A small-sized camera in a small handbag (most of time I carry a camera bag but a lady style sometimes fits me, too!) was always a romance for a woman like me. I finally got it!

Most of all, the GPS and Wi-Fi features are the best for travelers.

I like even better the simple and neat design.

As all the necessary buttons are in a touchscreen, no other buttons are needed.

Any photos taken in receipt of GPS can be uploaded to a website that can allow you to register location information without looking for each location.

Thanks to Wi-FI, you can e-mail photos during a journey. It is so much convenient.

Shall we upload a photo to Google?

If you make your own account on the web site, http://picasaweb.google.co.kr, you can upload photos showing geographic information.

It is even much better to share data with all around the world. Once you upload a photo in receipt of GPS, it will automatically find the location concerned.

You can see the location where I took a photo like this. You will see a lot of photos on Google.

Anyway, let’s travel with me and with the Samsung ST1000(CL65) camera including GPS and Wi-Fi.

▲ These photos were taken with the ‘Beauty Shot’ mode. So clean! I haven’t retouched them.

This trip will be the first one with my beloved boyfriend, but we haven’t decided a place yet.

We will see.

Then, see you in a couple of days.

Samsung's new HMX-U10 takes on the Flip UltraHD

ZDNet posted a review for Samsung U10 full HD camcorder.

In addition to today’s new camera announcements, Samsung announced three new camcorders, including the ultracompact HMX-U10, which is pitted directly against the popular Flip UltraHD.  As you’d expect from this category of Web-savvy camcorders, the HMX-U10 emphasizes ease-of-use, with one-touch uploading to YouTube, in-camera video editing software, and USB charging. Unlike the Flip line of camcorders, it requires a separate USB cable, which is a pretty big drawback in my book. Nevertheless, Samsung’s new entry outdoes the older UltraHD in several other important ways: It records full 1920×1080 video at 30 fps (vs. the UltraHD’s 1280×720 resolution), it snaps 10 megapixel still images (UltraHD shoots video only), its 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor is significantly larger than the UltraHD’s 1/4.5-inch sensor (which bodes well for image quality), it uses an SD card slot to allow for storage flexibility (though there’s no built-in memory), and it’s smaller and lighter than the UltraHD.  Additionally, Samsung claims that the camera’s physical design, which angles the top portion camcorder seven degrees up, will provide for more ergonomic shooting, reducing stress on your arm.  The HMX-U10 will ship in September, for $199.99 (identical to the Flip UltraHD’s current pricing).

SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65) with built-in GPS and WIFI

Here is a user review for Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

Recently Samsung released a couple of cameras of new idea.

It is the self portrait camera ST500/ST550(TL225) with the very dual LCD appeared getting a lot of attention via a tap and take named teasing site (http://www.tapandtake.com) overseas and the travel camera ST1000(C65) with onboard GPS, Wi-Fi and etc.

I had applied for the VLUU Grapher as a new camera experience group and I was luckily selected so I could see the ST1000(C65) first than anyone elst.

It is really compact and slim camera (It’s slimmer than my GRD2).

How surprising to see such a small body having GPS and even Wi-Fi!

The inner zoom lens will be convenient for traveling.

The lens is Schneider – Kreuznach Varioplan!

There is simply a large 3.5-inch screen on the back.

It is a trendy touch style of LCD but what makes it differentiate itself from other touch button cameras is the ‘Haptic’ technique.

You can sort of push photos to see a next photo with a finger. It also has a gravity sensor so that the mode can be changed to a tilting direction.

The Wi-Fi mark on the back means that the camera has a wireless LAN.

You can directly send photos or movies taken using this wireless LAN to Picasa, Facebook or YouTube.

I have a portable WiBro terminal, Egg, so I can upload a photo wherever and whenever.

There is no mark for Bluetooth but it has 2.0 Bluetooth so that it can connect with and send data to a cell phone or laptop computer having Bluetooth.

If you have Samsung Pavv PDP or LCD TV, you can show photos or movies on it wirelessly without cable connecting.

(I can’t test this because we don’t have a LCD TV)

Through HDMI at the bottom, it can also connect to AV or USB for charge or data transmitting.

It has weirdly a Micro SD card, which is usually for the cell phone.

I think it was to reduce the product size.

Thanks to this, you can upload photos in a cell phone.

The large screen is really worth it.

I can’t explain all the various features but if you set up the Smart Auto, the camera changes the SCENE depending on situations.

Ah, I almost forgot an important feature. It’s GPS.

You may say why a camera, not satellite navigation, needs GPS but you can include geographical information in photo information so called Geotag.

Such photos can be interfaced with the Google map so it tells you where such photo is taken.

I think that is why this camera is divided as a travel camera.

Anyway, this GPS function is quite interesting.

At outside, if you turn on the GPS mode and wait 1 or 2 minutes, you can see local information like ‘Mapogu’, ‘Seochogu’ on the screen.

Now I can’t lie that I have traveled overseas after taking a photo in Itaewon or someplace.

Ah, having this camera in my hands makes me want to travel without thinking of anything else.

I’ll put some photos taken by the ST1000(C65) next time.

If I am not going on a trip, I’ll just enjoy myself doing a day trip in Seoul city.

Samsung HMX-U10 First Look

Infosync.com posted a review for Samsung U10 full HD camcorder.
The Samsung HMX-U10 looks like a Flip while the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 appear to be clones of the Sony HDR-CX12. Read the full article to see how they differ.

Anything we haven't seen before? With all of the celebrity deaths and Northeast monsoons, it's difficult for us to even know what season it is, but Samsung has rolled out three new camcorders to kick off the Summer. That's right, this is the time of year manufacturers start sneaking new models into the fray, and what are we seeing from Samsung? Well, it appears as though Samsung has finally revealed their take on the ultra-portable Flip MinoHD and announced two standard-definition camcorders that are dead ringers for a few generations of Sony models we've seen throughout the past couple years. The Samsung HMX-U10 is Samsung's answer to the Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD cam while the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 are, well, clones of the Sony HDR-CX12, just without the HD capability. Well, not the Full HD capability because both new Samsung models can upconvert to HD, but we'll get to that in a minute. So, Samsung is just dipping their toes in a giant market pioneered by Flip and stealing the blueprint thunder from Sony? Read on and we'll tell you what sets Samsung's new models apart. Worth Flipping over? We'll start with the Samsung HMX-U10 because ultra-portable is all the rage, especially when it's HD. This frightens us. Anyone can make an HD camcorder, and there are oodles of bogus HD models out there just peering at unsuspecting consumers from the fluorescent confines of a grey market electronics store display case. We know that Samsung can produce the imaging goods, so we're hoping that the camcorder's 1/2.3-inch CMOS will get the job done. The pocket-sized Samsung HMX-U10 also flaunts the ability to capture 10-megapixel stills and features a two-inch LCD. We get 1920 x 1080 Full HD recording in the H.264 format, so files will play nicely with a computer. But the Samsung HMX-U10 also offers a YouTube upload mode, and frankly, no ultra compact camcorder would want to be seen without a YouTube mode these days. Unfortunately, the lens has a fixed focus, so it looks like extreme close-ups and views from an airplane will not suffice. We're digging the seven-degree angled grip, and the control panel looks promising. We'll get separate Video and Photo buttons and it looks like the Samsung HMX-U10 will have a more advanced menu system than its competitors. There's no word on the optical zoom, but we're thinking there might be a reason Samsung didn't even bother to mention it. The Samsung HMX-U10 will be juiced by a Lithium Ion battery, rechargeable via USB or AC adapter. SDHC cards will supply the memory, and the Samsung HMX-U10 is expected to ship in September for $200. Now what's all this upconversion hullabaloo? The Samsung SMX-K45 (gallery) and Samsung SMX-K40 (gallery) record 720 x 480 standard-definition video that can be played back on an HDTV in "near Full HD" quality, whatever that means. Basically, Samsung slapped an HDMI terminal on each model and granted them the ability to stream their standard-definition video clips to the big screen, so we're pretty sure we'll see some kind of quality leap. However, we will remain skeptical until Samsung sends us our HMX-K45 or HMX-K40 review units. Both models will feature 52x optical zooms with Intelli-Zoom technology that enables the camcorders to reach a 65x magnification without plunging into the horrors of a digital zoom. We're almost certain the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 will sacrifice pixels around the recorded frame in order to pull off the extra distance, much like Canon's Advanced Zoom. Both models will receive Samsung's latest Optical Image Stabilizer and Schneider KREUZNACH lenses. Like the newly announced Samsung HMX-C14, the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 will feature built-in intelli-studio software that allows shooters to connect to a computer to play and edit their video without having to install software externally. We also get the nifty animated thumbnail feature that cycles a series of thumbnails that correspond to a particular video clip in order for shooters to get a sneak preview before wasting their time on 30 minutes of an accidental recording of a pocket. Like the Samsung HMX-U10, the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 will feature Samsung's versatile battery charging system. Both models will have 2.7-inch LCDs and time-lapse recording capability, though the Samsung SMX-K45 boasts a 32GB SSD and SDHC card recording while the Samsung SMX-K40 records solely to SDHC cards. The Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 are set to ship in August for $500 and $330, respectively.

Rendezvous with World s First Dual LCD, Full Touch Digital Camera ST550(TL225)

Here is a user review for Samsung ST550 digital camera.

A teaser video for a new compact camera ST550(TL225) of Samsung digital imaging was announced first in foreign countries. As I was able to participate in VLUU Grapher campaign, I could use a sample body of the ST550(TL225) made before the mass production. Because I haven t received a user guide yet, I could not check mechanical characteristics or all the features. Therefore, only the appearance and simple traits are explained as follows:

SAMSUNG ST550(TL225) SPEC.

-Image sensor : Approx. 12.2 Mega-pixel, 1/2.33 (appox 7.79mm) CCD

-Lens : Schneider-KREUZNACH Lens f = 4.9 ~ 22.5mm (35mm film equivalent : 27~124.2mm)

-Lens F No. : F3.5(W) ~ F5.9(T) / Image Stabilization : Dual IS (OIS + DIS)

-Movie Clip : Max. 1280x720 30fps HD, (H.264/AVC), HDMI 1.2

-Main Display :3.5" (8.9cm) Wide 1,152K Full Touch LCD

-Front Display : 1.5"(3.8cm) 61K TFT LCD

-Focusing Range : Normal(80cm ~ infinity) macro(5cm~80cm), ISO80~3200

-Mode : Smart Auto, Auto, Program, Dual IS, Scene, Movie Clip

-Dimensions 99.8(W) x 59.8(H) x 18.6(D)mm, Weight 165.7g(without battery and card)

The outside of the ST550(TL225) is made of a high glossy material on which fingerprints are easily left.

The operating buttons of the ST550(TL225) are four of power, shutter, zoom and display in total.

At the bottom, it requires a battery (720mAh) and memory of micro sd.

The back is very neat with 3.5 inch wide LCD (1.15 pixels and haptic touch screen)

As for the size and thickness, it is slightly thinner and larger than a pack of cigarettes.

It varies with the newly introduced dual LCD mode. The flash light is off now.

The front 1.5 inch LCD is not a touch type. I m just fingering it in wonder.

Having a front LCD and full touch LCD on the back is the biggest feature of this product, which is fun.

The small square shows where af is (auto mode).

Whenever a half shutter is pressed, af, the small square moves in the front LCD to focus depending on a photo mode.

When I take the camera a little bit down at the face recognition mode, the af pointer immediately changes accordingly.

I felt that this camera s face recognition feature is faster than other Samsung cameras. AF pointer quickly moves to find a face.

When setting up the self shot mode, a person icon appears from the front LCD and it takes a picture in 3, 2, 1 to the self situation.

When the children mode is set up, a short and simple animation from the front LCD is repeatedly played. The front LCD may attract a lot of people s attention.

When I showed the front LCD to a sleeping cat, he stares at it and sleeps again.

This kind of ST550(TL225) dual LCD and full touch screen menu is still new to me. You may feel a minor vibration when you touch it like a cell phone s haptic mode. The front LCD and self shot mode are pretty creative, wonder and fun. Any woman or student who likes self shot or family with a baby might use this with fun.

It will be pretty easy for making a portrait shot at home. In addition, you can pose different looking at the front LCD.

For the front LCD, you should set it up on the menu. Please refer to the below video as to the movement of the menu and touch screen.

I thought firstly that the ST550(TL225) is a quite intersting camera (It has no manual mode but auto compact)

The ST1000 launched at the same time has wireless features of GPS, blue-tooth and DLAN.

It has a feature of transmitting a photo taken via e-mail, picasa, face book and etc. and GPS to show location info.

I think that both are pretty interesting products considering that they are a new try.

Samsung HMX-U10 Full HD camcorder with 1-button YouTube uploads out-Ultras the Flip

Engadget.com posted a review for Samsung U10 full HD camcorder.

Step aside Flip, Samsung's aiming its massive consumer-electronics guns directly at your point-shoot-n-upload to YouTube base. Samsung's new HMX-U10 fixed-focus, ultra-compact camcorder takes 10 megapixel stills or 1920 x 1080 Full HD H.264 video to SDHC cards courtesy of a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor. There's also a 2-inch LCD so you can playback, edit, or upload your videos with help from Samsung's built-in Intelli-studio software and USB cable, naturally. Unfortunately, Samsung makes no mention of image stabilization typically missing from these pocket camcorders. We do know, however, that it'll ship in September for $200 with a footprint measuring 56 x 103 x 15.5-mm / 95g and that peculiarly angled lens first seen on Sammy's HMX-R10 and SMX-C10 camcorders. So for the same price you get a bigger sensor with higher resolution from a better-looking camera that's also smaller and lighter than the Flip UltraHD. Care to respond PureDigital Cisco? Backside pic after the break.

SAMSUNG Dual LCD Camera ST550(TL225) Preview

Here is a user review for Samsung ST550 digital camera as follows:

Samsung has released the world’s first dual LCD digital camera ST550(TL225).

I got a great opportunity to be a Vluu Grapher.

There are four colors: the body is black and only the stripe is of different color.

The violet color is not produced in Korea.

It has a slip appearance.

As the body is black, I loved the simple appearance as soon as I saw it.

The screen is very large that I feel great when I check a shot after having taken it.

It is all of touch screen. Only your finger is required.

Even turning photos can be done only by clicking the screen.

It will be easy for you think of it same as the haptic phone or other touch phones.

You can embrace it by one hand and it is light so it is good to carry it in a handbag!

As you can see, it says 4.6 x zoom and 12.20 M pixels.

The photo taken by this camera is extremely clear.

I couldn’t believe that a digital camera could bring such a high definition.

Above all, the biggest merit of this digital camera may be its dual LCD.

Because of its two screens on the front and back, you can take a self shot actually seeing it.

When I took a solo trip and a self shot, no one would recognize that it was in a foreign country or Korea because only me was in a photo without the background.

This digital camera allows me to take a self shot including the background!

You have a lot of different modes to take a picture: This is the children mode.

A clown shows up and dances. You can use this mode to make a crying baby to focus on it and even to show a big bright smile.

You can update this clown with other different images.

I couldn’t learn so many features but I would like to show you some taken by a basic feature.

This is a smart mode shot without setting any features.

It shows even some invisible parts by its wide-angle lens.

It took the back head of a person who was passing in front of me: I then knew and surprised by the wide-angle lens.

It shows long and large horizontally. I adjusted only the brightness to 10 by photoshop and didn’t change anything.

(I wanted to delete some lower jaw though. It certainly is plentiful)

For a portrait of a person, it has a beauty mode that automatically enhances the image. If you set it as a smart mode, the camera converts to the beauty at its discretion before taking a picture: the photo looks like you have already done some make-up by photoshop.

However it does not cut some jaw and raise some nose and enlarge eyes.

Having seen this photo, I have made a decision to really get some teeth treatment. I’ll certainly do it next year. My mouth is protruded.

This is a bunch of ants working hard.

I always find some ants ending up fighting. Today, I found fighting ants again. Please stop fighting!

The photo is so clear that it shows even the eyes of the ants endlessly moving to work hard.

Amazing! I really like ants working hard!

To make a long story short about the ST550(TL225),

This camera gave a pleasant shock to me who had thought that all cameras are the same and photoshop makes all the difference.

I will not be able to explain about a camera using professional words but please see me as a novice trying to write previews of new cameras.

In fact, camera reviews say shutter speed or filter something.

For me, I have no idea what they talking about. Is it only me?

I’ll simply say that this is good and this is bad.

I’ll explain all the features with time with taking a picture.

Note that it will be on sale this fall in Korea!

Samsung Dual LCD Digital Camera ST550(TL225), the Best Camera for Self Shot!

Here is a user review for Samsung ST550 digital camera.

Hello, my name is Naniya

Although looking at my brother being disappointed by taking a very difficult self shot was fun, he was not alone. I am a very poor self shooter…

So we are cursed brother and sister.

Just then, this pleasing baby appeared.

The  ST550(TL225)  is the new camera Samsung prepared with ambition

The ST550(TL225) has a dual LCD camera having a s1.5-inch LCD on the front of the camera: A screen is available on the front and back.

After turning the camera on, you can just touch the front LCD to make it on.

If you take a self shot looking at the screen, it will be pretty one without cutting an eye or nose like my brother.

Why this explanation about a camera again?

That is because~

I found a good opportunity to experience a sample product of Samsung ST550(TL225).

As a Vluu Grapher.

The future photos with a Vluu Grapher Naniya and Samsung’s ST550(TL225).

I got so interested in photos that I’ve read through the first volume of ‘Lee Park Ko’ I bought the other day and I again bought the fourth volume just released to study more about photos.

I’ll show you Naniya’s various pretty cute colorful photos.

I’ve been playing with this cute little thing lately and amazed with different interesting features.

I’ll let you know everything in detail.

First of all, I’ll start with a preview. Skipping a preview is like skipping a meal.

Simple appearance! Black with violet touch.

World first dual LCD (both screens on the back and front!), and full touch digital camera.

The Samsung ST550(TL225) gave a pleasant shock to the digital camera world! In addition, it did to my brother, self shot failure who is now frustrated in the next room. He says why it was not on the market when he bought his camera and asks if he can experience it instead of me. But no.

Stop talking and go back to China. haha

What I received is a sample camera which is made before being on the market so there is no box having a company logo.

I was a little in loss first because there was not manual at all.

I was toying with it and saw a screen on the front which made me so surprised.

I’ll unveil everything.

Samsung Dual LCD Digital Camera ST550(TL225) Preview!

Here is a user review for Samsung ST550 digital camera.

This is the Samsung dual LCD digital camera ST550(TL225) soon to be on the market.

As a Vluu Grapher, I got a chance to use this camera first.

For other cameras, you should turn the back LCD to the front to take a self shot. This ST 550 has 1.5 inch LCD hidden by the side of the lens. That is why front and back dual LCD!

It looks like this.

For the violet part on the left, there are other colors, too.

<This color is not available in Korea>

It supports 12.2 M pixels (12.2 megapixels) and 4.6 x optical zoom.

Very neat design

This is the very dual LCD function I and my friends fell in love with.

After you turn on the camera, you can just touch the side of the lens with your finger to see the display on. I was shy to put my face on so I used the cute decoration card holder as a model instead.

This function is the one I like the most. In fact, I have very few pictures with my boyfriend: when I and my boyfriend take a trip and try to take a picture, the angle is wrong, one person is shut out or it gives not a good picture. But now, I shall take a lot of pictures with him. Of course with my friends, too.

“Self shot! Piece of cake” You will totally agree with this this.

This is the back of the camera – no button. Almost all the modes are operated only by touch.

You know the “haptic” cell phone turning pages with a finger. This is just like that.

On the top of the camera, there are power/preview/shutter/zoom buttons.

Look at the wide screen. Isn’t this so refreshing? It supports 1.15M pixels and 3.5 inch HD wide LCD.

Another thing I like is 27mm wide lens!

On a trip, I was not happy about some part of a beautiful scene cut off.

I can take a trip picture better now, but I have no plan for trip for now.

That’s it! Thank you for sharing with me my preview of my new camera friend, ST550(TL225)!

Sample shot!!

I will take a lot of pretty pictures!

Cool Dual LCD! Samsung ST550(TL225) My own Preview

Here is a user review for Samsung ST550 digital camera.

Samsung ST550(TL225) finally lifted its veil!

When I received it, I was speechless:

It looked better than I thought!

Now my review time!

I loved so much the sharp shaped design and solidness!

I luckily could have a gold color:

I heard that the gold color is not produced in our country.

This image is from the top! There are few buttons as it is a full touch screen.

One remarkable thing! The memory card is so small that it goes into a cellphone!

Having so many functions and modes, this gives you so much fun!

At the bottom of the camera, there is a charger connecting part.

The charm of ST550(TL225)!! Dual LCD!

When you tap on the front, the small screen turns on.

Best for self shot!!

This mode shows animations so it is easy to take a picture of children making them focus on.

I haven’t taken a lot of pictures yet but you could sure expect a lot from this camera!

Thank you for reading Miss Lea’s poor review.

Samsung Camera ST550(TL225) Dual LCD Camera

Here is a user review for Samsung ST550 digital camera.

The newly launched Samsung Camera ST550(TL225)

Nowadays there are few cameras for self shot, so I wanted to buy one but failed.

[I even tried to buy former an old camera!]

Samsung launched a very nice camera. If you tap the front area, you can see a LCD like a magic and take a self shot.

I love this camera having a big LCD on the back, neat design and all touch type.

I became a Vluu Grapher with this Samsung camera. Good opportunity and very nice camera. I feel good!

Samsung has released the ST550(TL225/220 in USA), the world’s first compact camera with front and rear LCDs. Approximately 1.15 M pixels wide full touch screen panel is located on the back of the ST550(TL225). Both feature 1.5 inch 61k dot front LCDs.

When the power of the camera is on and you tap the front LCD, it turns on and automatically goes into ‘Self-Portrait mode’ and ‘Smile mode’: A self shot can be taken without pushing the shutter button. You can utilize different features like ‘Children mode’ -the front LCD plays a simple animation to capture a child’s attention; ‘Shutter Info’ – when the shutter button is pushed halfway, it displays a ‘smiley face’ thus allowing you to know the timing of taking a picture; ‘Self-Timer’ – when taking a group photo, it will show a visual countdown timer so that everyone knows exactly when the photo will be snapped.

In addition to the full touch screen, Smart Gesture UI with built-in orientation sensor lets you quickly and easily operates the camera only with a hand gesture. For example, it changes its mode to ‘Smart Auto’, ‘Movie Recording’ or ‘Recording mode’ by tilting the camera and you can delete photos by making a cross(X) on the LED screen using your finger. If you draw a line to the right or left direction or tilt the camera, you can see the next image. It has these easy and fun features. Also, if you touch the LCD, you can feel a slight vibration, which means ‘Haptic’ technology.

It is so easy to take a self shot.

At dawn, I fed Rinha and couldn’t sleep so played with the camera

As soon as I got up in the morning, a self shot! Being able to see it on the LCD – I love this.

This is a self shot taken at an Outback restaurant!

Oh ho! Tosiya got a chance to be a Vluu Grapher for Samsung ST550(TL225) digital camera.

By this opportunity, I could get hold of this cool digital camera full of wonders

Shall we open box and take a look?

It includes

The body, battery, power adapter and USB cable.

And there is a leather wrist strap I forgot. I’ll show it next time.

First, the front shot: simple but edgy red line! Very neat design! I like this so much.

(There is a black color, too. Also, there is gold and violet that will not be available in Korea)

Back!

Oh my! How simple it is! The secret is the Haptic UI.

It is now the full touch generation for digital camera, too!

Because of the full touch screen, the appearance could be so neat.

Touching tears

On the top, there is power, shutter and zoom buttons.

It’s neat and simple here too.

When you turn on the camera, cute blue light together with the lens…

Samsung HMX-H106 HD SSD Flash Memory Camcorder with 64 GB Memory and 10x Optical Zoom

The Amazon.com posted Samsung's H106 camcorder reveiw.

Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The HMX-H106, Samsung’s new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, is the world’s first to feature an internal 64 GB SSD (as of January 5, 2009). The compact, lightweight Samsung HMX-H106 SSD camcorder takes video at the highest digital visual resolution available today, 1920 x 1080 Full HD. 1920 x 1080 Full HD video means much greater clarity, brightness and detail than ever before. It also means that your video will be an exact pixel-by-pixel match for today’s very best large screen HDTVs. The result is life-like video with more natural color and clarity, without the blurring or digital noise you might well be used to. Samsung’s H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders set a new standard for style and performance. Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory. Samsung’s SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability. No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations. Additionally, Samsung’s SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds.

Samsung H106 Highlights

Samsung H-series camcorder highlights

4:3 recording, 6:9 output vs. 16:9 recording, 16:9 output
Progressive HD (1920 x 1080 Full HD)
Samsung’s HMX-H106 delivers the very highest quality video by using progressive scan technology. It records HD quality video in progressive mode (30fps), so that the video is crisp and clear, regardless of how fast the subject is moving. Progressive scan technology produces smooth images even when videos are played back at 2x, 4x or even 8x the normal speed!

37mm wide-angle lens (Schneider's Varioplan-HD lens)
A 37mm wide-angle lens, fitted to a camcorder, allows you to experience a new world of images. The world-class Schneider lens is specially designed to produce clear and vivid images by correcting chromatic aberration and distortion. Unlike other camcorders offering a typical angle of view of 40 - 50 mm, a wide angle view of 37mm provides wider and richer images from the same distance. Enjoy the world of dynamic, exceptional images brought to you by 37mm!

Samsung H-series camcorder highlights

The wide angle view of 37mm delivers the big picture

Time Lapse Recording
By setting time intervals for frame capture, you can take full advantage of the Time Lapse Recording function. This feature uses selective frame capture to record over an extended period of time so that you can see the effects of long term recording condensed into a shorter time frame. Imagine seeing the slow passage of clouds through the sky or a sunset over the water in only a few minutes.

Swivel Hand-Grip
Samsung’s unique Swivel Hand-Grip design makes shooting difficult angles a snap. With a flick of the wrist, you can change the shoot angle of the camcorder to take the perfect video every time-all with one hand! The ergonomic design will open new doors to the way you shoot video.

Samsung K45 Camcorder: Camcorder zooms in on the action

The Vancouver Sun posted an article about Samsung's digital camcorder, SMX-K40.

SMX-K40 Camcorder, Samsung, Cdn $350

Samsung's K40 and K45 camcorders capture video at standard definition 720 x 480 but then let you upscale your video for high definition television via an HDMI connection. The camcorder has a built-in HDMI output but you have to buy the HDMI cable separately.

A whopping 65-times zoom will bring your videos to the forefront -- that would have come in handy this summer when I was shooting some truly spectacular action of daredevil kayakers running the Sechelt Rapids known as one of the most turbulent stretches of water in the world with waves reaching as high as three metres. Unfortunately without a powerful zoom, the kayaker was hardly a speck in the surging waters.

It also doesn't require that you have your own computer nearby to transform your videos into files for sharing. Samsung's intellistudio, a built-in program lets you edit and play your videos on any computer without having to install software.

It charges either through the AC adapter that's included or via USB when the camcorder is connected to a computer. To check back on videos in the LCD screen, the camcorder shows them with an animating thumbnail that gives a short playback of the file. http://www.samsung.com/.

WB1000 FINGER TRANSFORMER

Here is a video clip for Samsung WB1000 digital camera.

Samsung launch the ST45 - Samsung release the stylish ST45.

The Ephotozine.com posted an article about Samsung's ST45 digital camera as follows:

Press Release:

Samsung, leaders in innovation and digital imaging, is pleased to announce the launch of the 16mm ultra slim ST45. The aluminium ST45 combines innovative technology and user-friendly features to deliver optimum image quality in a light and stylish package.

Samsung ST45Smart Auto – Scene Recognition

The 12 mega pixel ST45 features a 2.7in QVGA (230K) TFT LCD screen and Samsung's new "Smart Scene Recognition" technology. "Smart Scene Recognition" has 11 optimized picture pre-settings such as Portrait, Night portrait, Macro, Macro Colour, helping people take the perfect shot regardless of the conditions. You can also use these settings when sorting through your photos - making it quick and easy to find all the portrait, outdoor or macro images you've taken.

Digital Image Stabilisation/Self Portrait & Frame Guide
The ST45 offers Digital Image Stabilisation helping you get great sharp images without blurring. A highly sensitive ISO 3200 and Samsung’s Self Portrait & Frame Guide are included within the ultra slim and light ST45 alongside a host of other advanced features. The Frame Guide means you no longer need to rely on the technological capabilities of strangers for those perfect holiday snaps. When you use the setting, the camera takes a ghost picture of your desired shot and displays a template when you pass the camera over to someone else - ensuring they always take the picture you want them to take once you’re in it.

Face Detection
“Face Detection” locates the subject’s face within the frame and automatically adjusts auto focus and auto exposure to ensure better composition and image quality for portraits; in “Blink Detection Mode” the camera will take a series of shots when closed eyes are detected so everyone is captured with their eyes open; in “Smile Mode” a picture is automatically taken when smiles are detected and, in "Beauty Shot" mode, facial skin is retouched for a brighter and smoother skin tone.

Smart Album – Digital Contents Management
The ST45 features a new “Smart Album” Digital Contents Management system; a contents management program within the camera itself that significantly reduces the time it takes to find a photo - so it's quick and easy to store and manage your picture collection. The clever navigation program automatically organises your shots based on the date they were taken, their contents, colour or themes.

"Samsung is delighted to strengthen its range of compact cameras with the launch of the sophisticated ST45. Our cameras set the benchmark for quality and innovation and with the launch of the ST45 all photographers will enjoy taking high quality images" said Steve Mitchell, General Manager Marketing, Samsung Digital Imaging Division.

The ST45 is available in Red, Black, Blue and Grey. All colours will be available from leading high street and online retailers from late September 2009. Samsung Cameras include a one year warranty. Customers requiring further information should call 0845 726 7864 or visit the Samsung website.

Samsung C10 Digital Camcorder: Learn From Tiky! How to use intelli-studio_1

Here is a video clip for Samsung C10 digital camcorder.

Samsung Jumping Into The Picture

The Forbes posted an article about Samsung's digital camera as follows:

Electronics giant ramps up its digital camera marketing.

When TV watchers turn on the tube this fall, they'll see a new Samsung commercial that shows girls--and a gorilla--holding cameras in front of their faces, doing what everyone seems to be doing these days: taking pictures of themselves.

Samsung Electronics is spending some $50 million on a year-long ad blitz to promote its new DualView cameras that give consumers an easy way to take self portraits--they have a display screen in the front and one in the back. The company, a subsidiary of the Korean electronics giant, is partnering with retail chains Best Buy and B&H to push its new touchscreen cameras (priced between $300 and $350) into consumers' hands. The campaign, which rolls out Sept. 17, includes print and online ads. TV spots will air on cable and broadcast TV networks such as NBC, CBS and Fox until the end of October, when holiday ads with retailers will begin.

The advertising campaign, from Leo Burnett in Chicago, marks Samsung's effort to expand its business beyond flat screens and mobile phones. The U.S. digital imaging market, largely dominated by Sony, Canon and Nikon, totaled an estimated $5 billion last year. Samsung's vice president of digital imaging marketing, Reid Sullivan, says the company is aiming to gain a 20% market share in the U.S. by 2012, up from its current 6%.

"With everyone--kids and parents--uploading photos these days, we had no decision but to jump further into the market," says Sullivan. The camera is targeted toward teens, who snap self-images for uploads to their blogs and social networking sites, and to parents, who may appreciate the camera's child-friendly features, Sullivan says. The DualView's child mode displays a clown cartoon on the camera's front screen to grab children's attention.

Samsung expects to kick off another campaign of similar size in 2010. "We want to leave the other competitors licking their wounds," Sullivan says.

Pocket compact incorporating a large 10x optical zoom

Here is an article for Samsung WB550 digital camera from Computeractive.com.

Samsung’s WB550 camera squashes a longer-than-average 10x optical zoom lens (the equivalent of a 24-240mm lens on a film camera) into a 12-megapixel pocket compact camera. Unlike on some cameras the full extent of the zoom is usable when shooting either photos or video.

There is no optical viewfinder so shots have to be composed using the rear 3in screen. It can record 720p high-definition movies with stereo sound and, unusually, there is a side-mounted HDMI port so the camera can be directly connected to a flat-panel television screen to watch the films. A light sensitivity range from ISO80 to ISO3200 is broader than most competitors, allowing for good results in both bright light and darker situations.

With a weight of 225g and an exterior that mixes plastic with metal, the WB550 has a solid grip, making camera shake less of a problem than with svelte fashion-conscious cameras. There is little shutter lag and it took two seconds for a full-resolution JPEG image to be saved to the SDHC memory card (there’s 21MB of internal memory, enough for a few snaps).

The WB550 is equipped with a Smart Auto function that lets beginners just point and shoot, while the camera automatically chooses the best from 11 possible settings for a given scene or subject. Although it has face detection, blink detection, and smile modes (in which it picks out shots when people are smiling) for happy snapping, there is manual control too. Users can change the area the camera focuses on the light sensitivity and white balance settings, as well as tweaking shutter speed and aperture on screen using a lever, although this control felt unnecessarily narrow and fiddly.

Images from the WB550 were warm and richly coloured. This can look unnatural but it was flattering for portraits and there was little need to edit them on a PC. At maximum wide angle there was some barrel distortion (slight curvature of the image edges )while with plenty of light the extreme zoom was sharply focused.

With the WB550 available online as low as £230 it’s a steal: a pocket compact with plenty of punch.

Bluetooth in cameras: Samsung ST1000

The ST1000 has been awarded the first ever award given by website Photo-Facts.  Rod Lawton is the editor/owner of this site and he has decided to award companies for the technology within the products rather than doing in-depth tests on cameras.  He is trying to differentiate the site from other photo sites.

Photo-facts-award-75pxBluetooth is a short-range wireless technology that’s already popular for swapping files between mobile phones, for example, for cable-free headsets and some computer peripherals, and now appears in a digital camera – the Samsung ST1000.

Bluetooth uses radio waves, so there doesn’t have to be a direct line of sight between the two devices. It isn’t compatible with or a replacement for the wi-fi networks used by computers and for Internet access, but it’s still surprising that camera makers have so far ignored it as a means for simple, cable-free transfer between nearby devices.

Samsung-ST1000But Samsung is the exception, incorporating Bluetooth into its ST1000 compact camera (along with wi-fi and GPS). What could be more natural than swapping photos with your friends? You can do it with phones, so why not cameras?

Wireless communications are a bit of an unknown for most of us, especially those who’ve struggled with complicated network detection and authentication processes in the past. But Bluetooth communication protocols are well and truly sorted now, as demonstrated by the mobile phone market.

So could it be that easy with cameras? And could you expect a camera to communicate with a phone? Sure enough, during a quick test at the camera’s launch event an ST1000 ‘discovered’, connected with and sent a photo to our Nokia 5310 without a hitch.

Technology doesn’t necessarily have to be cutting edge. The main thing is that (a) it’s useful, (b) it’s simple and (c) it works! The ST1000 gets an award for achieving all three.

Made for self shots, Samsung Digital Imaging ST550(TL225)

Samsung Electronics has been successful with the high glossy material on the frame of the LCD TV. This design has also been applied to LCD monitors and welcomed. As if following this, the front of the ST550(TL225) is coated with high glossy material. It leaves a trace as a Samsung product in design. And the black color adds more elegant design. Due to high glossy coated material on the front, it looks likes there’s no auxiliary LCD. This intended to reduce the disharmony caused by the new auxiliary LCD.

Self shots become important by the advent of mini hompi and blog, so a lot of functions making a face more beautiful have been added, but not in the convenience. Except the swivel mirror of the ST10, most of them tried it with the rotation of the LCD. And this was not for self shot, but for the convenience of adjustment of shot angles.

Front LCD communicating with human

The ST550(TL225) has 1.5” LCD on the left side of the lens. This can prevent malfunction and inconvenience caused by the rotation of LCD. Furthermore, the auxiliary LCD makes it more convenient and fun to use. Turning on the ST550(TL225) and tapping the front LCD, you can see yourself from the LCD. The front LCD is 230K pixels, so the quality is not as good as the LCD on the back, but it’s very useful. Through this idea, they have made the trend of this generation more emotional like interaction between human and machine.

If you have children, I’m sure that you have an experience to take their pictures. The ST550(TL225) can play a funny animation drawing their attention through the front LCD. And when setting a timer, it shows the countdown.

Talking with touch, Gesture

The fun expression of the ST550(TL225) has also been made with software. When playing photos, by drawing gestures with your fingertips, you can execute the functions such as turn, delete, rotation, and move. Moreover, by tilting the body about 15 degree to left/right, it turns to the next/previous picture. Gesture and tilting could be difficult to beginners, but it’s more intuitive and easier than the LCD button once you get used to it.

Previous/Next file                     File delete

      File rotation                            Move

Let’s make my family album with a Samsung camcorder.

Here is a product review for Samsung K45 digital camcorder.

Samsung camcorders have started with the pocket type camcorder VM-300 in 2007 with UCC boom, and the shooting type memory camcorder 480p MX10 and HD camcorder HMX10A were also known to us. Particularly, the success of the HMX20 in 2008 is so cool. This model has made Samsung camcorders more popular until 2009, and thanks to this model, following family camcorders could be released. In 2009, Samsung have been releasing a lot of products with a lot of concepts such as an album for children, easy recording, my diary, and family.

Active angle Full-HD camcorder R10, Capsule type small camcorder C10, Samsung has kind of threatened the No.1 Sony in camcorder with the Full HD H106 having the world’s first SSD memory and OIS. They start the second half of 2009 with the SSD memory camcorder SMX-K45 which converts SD to Full HD 1080p.

Converting SD to Full HD quality.

‘RECORD SD, PLAY Full HD Samsung K45 series

The SMX-K series is divided into the SMX-K45/K44/K40 by the internal memory. The K45 and K44 have 32 and 16GB SSD memory, while the K40 has no internal memory, but supports SD/SDHC memory. The biggest feature of the K45 series is the up-scaling from 480i to 1080p when watching in HDTV. Today’s model is the SMX-K45 having 32GB of SSD memory.

The best self shot! Samsung ST550(TL225) - Performance

ZOOM

The zoom function of the ST550(TL225) is quite good as you can see from the picture above. Through the protruding type lens, this camera supports 4.6x optical and 5x digital zoom with 27mm wide angle. Therefore, this can take a wide scene on a picture, and objects at a long distance through 23x zoom (Optical + Digital).

Taking shots with 4.6x optical zoom, the overall color looks a little bit different, but the optical zoom is great enough to be strongly recommended. On the other hand, the digital zoom function degraded the color much as you can see. When taking a shot with the maximum tele zoom, you’d better use the IS function, because the iris value increases. Therefore, I’d like to recommend the optical zoom and cropping the picture rather using the digital zoom.

MACRO

The ST550(TL225) has Normal Macro (Less than 80cm) and Super Macro (Less than 3~8cm). The picture above was taken with the Normal Macro function, and the below one was taken with the Super Macro function.

Especially, when taking a macro shot with AF, the focus sometimes set on the play I didn’t want, so the picture wasn’t good. However, the ST550(TL225) supports One Touch Shot and Smart Touch AF, so you can easily set the focus by directly touching the spot you want.

When taking shots with the Smart Auto Mode, the camera automatically sets a proper function such as Macro or Super Macro, so it provides satisfactory results even for beginners.

This picture was taken with the Photo Style of the ST550(TL225). 10 modes for Photo Style such as Normal, Soft, Vivid, Forest, Retro, Cool, Calm, Classic, Negative, and Custom are supported.

The best self shot! Samsung ST550(TL225) - Appearance

In a camera market, compact digital cameras has a different line from DSLR cameras, People select a compact digital camera, because of a lot of reasons such as portability, convenience, and so on, not if it’s professional or not. This tendency of customers is still the reason people buy compact digital cameras.

Like I mentioned, a lot of customers want compact digital cameras, but recently, just small, light, and stylish compact digital cameras are not good enough to appeal to customers.

That’s why camera makers have been releasing high-end or professional type digital cameras with the advantages I told.

Samsung also have been releasing a lot of compact digital cameras with high technology, and getting high evaluation. Today, I’d like to introduce the new ST series ST550(TL225).

The ST550(TL225) as a following model of the ST50 has 12.2M pixels CCD, 3.5” wide full touch screen, and 1.5” TFT LCD dual LCD on the front. Unlike other products, it is optimized for self shots. (This model I’m reviewing is for a test, so it might be different from an official model.

Hidden - Front Display

Looking at the overall design of the ST550(TL225), it has adopted the high glossy on the front, and side and back are designed with no-glossy black. The lens surrounding Schneider Kreuznach engraved is made of silver metal, so it’s the design point of the simple design.

The Samsung logo is on the left top, and a flash on the right of the logo. The lens is located on the right side. On the right top of the lens, AF and self timer lamp are located. Looking at the front, it doesn’t seem there’s a special function, but on the left of the lens, something special is hidden.

When using it, it doesn’t seem it has any special something. However, when turning on the front LCD, the 1.5” LCD appears. When it comes to a normal digital camera, right and left side of the lens is for a logo, but the ST550(TL225) provides more functions with the front LCD such as self shot.

On the back, 3.5” wide full touch display has been adopted, and by reducing the thickness of the surroundings, it seems that it has more space than 3.5”. And by adopting Smart Gesture UI started from a mobile phone and used for the ST series, there’s no button at all, but the full display. Therefore, it has simple and neat appearance.

On the top of the ST550(TL225), logo, microphone (Mono), power button, shutter button, zoom in/out button, and play button are located. We can naturally put an index finger on the shutter button, so more convenient shot is possible.

Looking at the left and right side of the ST550(TL225), a speaker (Mono) is located, and on the right, a strap ring is located. On the bottom, battery/memory slot, USB 2.0, A/V / HDMI 1.2 output port, and tripod hole are located.

When it comes to a battery, it’s 3.4V 720mAh(2.6Wh) Li-Ion battery, and the memory is the Micro SD type (Up to 4GB) frequently used for a mobile phone.

The battery time is approximately 90 minutes as in specifications (Tested with 12M resolution, High, OIS, with flash or no flash for 5 minutes with 1 minutes of rest)

HMX-R10 : Innovation Award on Futurelooks.com

Samsung R10 has got an Innovation Award as follows.

Samsung HMX-R10 HD Camcorder Review

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to meet with Samsung at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. One of the more unique products that I was shown was none other than the Samsung HMX-R10. The specs make it sound like any number of other HD digital camcorders, but this thing does at least one thing differently.

Some people dubbed it the Alien Eye, because the lens of the HMX-R10 does not point directly forward like all other camcorders and even Samsung’s on previous models. Instead, it is angled upwards, because this is supposed to provide for a more comfortable shooting position for your hand and wrist. And it also happens to be the world’s smallest full 1080p HD camcorder to boot.

Features at a Glance

While you could certainly take the easy route with something like the Flip Video UltraHD pocket camcorder, you get a much more robust and feature-rich experience with the Samsung HMX-R10.

Samsung HMX-R10 HD Camcorder Review

For starters, the Flip UltraHD can only do 720p, whereas the Samsung HMX-R10 can bump that up to Full-HD (1920 x 1080), giving you “superior clarity and increased depth of detail.” The CMOS sensor is also able to capture still photos at up to 12 megapixels of resolution.

Some of the more notable features include high-speed recording for 300/600fps slow motion playback, face detection autofocus, Magic Touch Focus on the flip-out 2.7″ touch panel LCD, and the 25-degree “active angle lens design.”

Among the highlights from the full spec sheet are 5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom, F3.5 ~ 3.7, SD/SDHC slot, auto shutter speed, auto/manual focus, 15 lux low light sensitivity, six manual white balance settings, wind filter for the microphone, mini-HDMI output, H.264 / MP recording format, 80-minute battery, 229 grams of weight, and dimensions of 38.3 x 56.8 x 128.2mm.

Loading Up on Free Accessories

Samsung HMX-R10 HD Camcorder Review

While the bundled accessories aren’t exactly comprehensive, you do get a healthy complement of supporting items when you unpack the Samsung HMX-R10 digital camcorder from its neatly-designed box.

In addition to the camcorder itself, there is a leather-like wrist strap so you don’t accidentally drop the thing. You’ll also find a thick mesh-style carrying pouch, a USB cable, battery, cable clips, component video cables, power brick, power cable, software CD, and supporting documentation.

It is a bit of a curiosity that Samsung would choose to include a component video cable for direct video output on the R10. Yes, the other end of the cable uses mini-HDMI so that it will work with this camcorder, but wouldn’t it be so much nicer if they included a true mini-HDMI cable instead? That would make for a better HDTV-viewing experience for sure.

You’ll also notice that the HMX-R10 does not have any internal storage memory and Samsung did not include any free SD memory cards to get you started. In this way, you’ll want to grab an (extra large) SDHC card while you’re at the store picking up this camcorder.

Pop the Hatch for Battery and Memory

Since you’ll need to rely on your own SD and SDHC memory cards with this camcorder, it makes sense that there would be some place where you would insert said cards. For the HMX-R10, the hatch for the memory cards is also the same hatch where you’d access the battery compartment.

Samsung HMX-R10 HD Camcorder Review

Rather than using a spring-loaded mechanism for opening this latch, which is located on the underside of the camcorder, Samsung opted for a lock/unlock switch. It’s not really any better or any worse, but it’s a little unconventional. Personally, I would have preferred if the SD slot was on the side or the back, since this is usually easier to access than the bottom, especially if you are using a tripod mount of some kind.

SAMSUNG ST1000(CL65) REVIEW

99.8 x 60.8 x 18.9 mm of size and 156g of weight are not 100% satisfactory, but it’s enough for you to carry without much inconvenience. (Personally, I prefer a little firm and heavy product to a just small product. Thanks to appropriate weight and stable grip, I could take shots and control it satisfactorily.)

Like I mentioned earlier, the design is elegant as a high graded product. On the front, the metal is used, and with the hairline, it gives freshness and heaviness at the same time. It’s also very neat without excrescences. (I’d like to say the finishing is great.) @ Not only the black color which is being reviewed, but also red and blue colors will be released.

It’s the front of the product. You can see the lens doesn’t come out unlike the protruding type ST550. (Turing it one, the lens cap moves to the side. After testing it, it has drastically less vibration, so more stable shots could be done. This supports 5x optical zoom, so it’s possible to take an object at a far distance without moving much.) The Schneider approved lens has been attached. And the F value is F3.6(W)~4.8(T). @This not only supports 12.2M pixels, but also this has the Dual IS function, so under any circumstances, satisfactory shots could be taken.

Besides, like the picture, in the center, flash, microphone, and AF / Self timer lamp are located, and on the left side, Wi-Fi antenna which is not seen is included. (When using the wireless internet, please do not touch the antenna part if possible.)

It’s the top of the product. The GPS antenna located in the center is the most noticeable. (Usage of the GPS will be handled later.) On the right side, power and shutter buttons are located, and zoom lever, play button, and speaker are also attached. It also supports the status LCD, so when using wireless mode, Bluetooth mode, and GPS mode, you can easily see the status.

SAMSUNG ST550(TL225) REVIEW

Different from last year, in this year, there was no many tropical nights, but since August, it’s has been hot, so the tourists are crowed with a lot of people. (My friends are busy to make a plan for vacation. I’m so sorry that I can’t enjoy the vacation for my personal reason.) When I look at the people taking pictures with a digital camera in a tourist, I envy them very much.

For this vacation season, digital camera makers have released their distinguished new products. The ST550(TL225) I’m reviewing from Samsung Digital Imaging is a sensible designed product like other ST series, and I could see this product has the innovative front display. (Users having good sense already knew that.)

It’s so long time ago, since I reviewed a camera, so I’m a little afraid and nervous. Through the review of the ST550(TL225), let’s take a look at the design, functions, and performance.

This product is for test, so it might be different from the product for sale in specifications.

I didn’t have any inconvenience to carry this, because of the size 99.8x59.8x18.6mm and the weight 165.7g. (Certainly, it’s a little bigger and heavier than other ST series, so I couldn’t be satisfied with the portability for 100%. However, with a little more weight, I could take more stable shots than before.)

The design of the product is so satisfactory, and I think this is one of the best design cameras among all Samsung digital Imaging cameras which I’ve reviewed so far. The wide screen to minimize the button part is so outstanding, and the high-glossy UV coating for sensible and elegant feeling is also very satisfactory. (There’s no extra part, and it’s so sharp and neat product. If you think the design is important for a digital camera, I strongly recommend this product.)

It’s the front of the body. It has 27~124.2mm (There’s no problem to take wide and standard angle shots. I think it’s a quite ideal angle.) Schneider protruding optical zoom lens(4.6x), and it supports F3.5(W)~5.9(T). (It’s quite different from the WB series having F2.8.) @Not only does it support 12.2M pixels, but also it has Dual IS function, so you can take satisfactory pictures any time.

Knocking love. Samsung Digital Imaging ST550(TL225)
