Here is a review about Samsung C10 camcorder.

SMX-C10_01HANDSONMOBILE Luxurious and Sharp crystal rose cam

SMX-C10_02HANDSONMOBILE <Appearance>

SMX-C10_03HANDSONMOBILE The SMX-C10/C14 comes with 3 colors such as red/blue/grey, and by adopting high glossy coating, luxurious and sharp feeling stylish design is outstanding. The size is 38.5mm x 56.5mm x 114mm such a small, and the weight is 156g, and including a battery, it’s just 162g of weight.

SMX-C10_04HANDSONMOBILE The design of this product is based on black tone color and metallic coating around lens, the LCD joint and zoom/recording control part. Through that, it emphasizes the simplicity, and the curved line from the front to the top adopts the double coating reminding the piano, and the gradation with red/blue/grey makes this more luxurious. The plastic of grip part reminding an sand blasted aluminum reduces the slipperiness, and the small body provides better grip.

SMX-C10_05HANDSONMOBILE SMX-C10_06HANDSONMOBILE The 2.7 inch LCD provides cool display which couldn’t be seen from minimalism products. The control buttons around the LCD consist of joystick type which is combination of menu and way buttons and recording buttons. On the side of the product coming out when openign the LCD, power, one touch share, display adjustment, Easy.Q, play button, speaker, and USB port are located.

Free and convenient!

SMX-C10_07HANDSONMOBILE <Specification>

SMX-C10_08HANDSONMOBILE Different from former products, the battery cover opens when pushing it to open direction, and after opening the cover, memory and battery slot, power port, and AV port are noticed. This supports SD/SDHC/MMC plus memory which are widely used and cheap. Composite port(Voice left/right 2 lines, video 1 line) normally used is supported for AV port, and the battery time is 160 min continuous recording and 180 min of continuous playing time. The power source is through the power adaptor and also the USB connection to charge it, and using the adaptor, it takes 2 hours to fully charge, while 3 hours and 40 min by the USB. The USB port is normally used USB MINI-B, so with a computer, you can charge it anywhere, so you don’t need to carry the adaptor.

SMX-C10_09HANDSONMOBILE The SMX-C10/C14 takes the advantage of the HMX-R10 and makes up for the weak points. The 25 degree tilted lens makes it up the weak point of the grip by reducing the size and look better. The 25 degree tilted lens is made up for the wrist bent, so it reduces the fatigue on wrist and joint by not bending the wrist, and by securing the view, it’s very convenient to record a video.

SMX-C10_10HANDSONMOBILE Distortion for TV out by resolution

SMX-C10_11HANDSONMOBILE The SMX-C10 only supports a video recording, and the C10 also supports the picture. The H.264 codec has been adopted for videos, so it reduces the power consumption and size of files to provide the best capacity. With 720×480(60i), this supports TV highest/TV high/TV standard, while with 640×480(30p), it supports Web high/Standard. When TV out, many LCD/PDP TV supports 16:9 ratio, so 4:3/16:9 can be selected. Therefore, you can watch not distorted videos on wide TV, and it’s like this supports 10 resolutions.

Video capacity table

SMX-C10_12HANDSONMOBILE Picture size

SMX-C10_13HANDSONMOBILE Setting the high reolution and quality, the SMX-C10 can record 12 hours and 40 min with the 32GB SDHC memory, and when it comes to the SMX-C14 has the 16GB internal memory, so 6 hours and 20 min recording is possible, and on top of that, with the 32GB SDHC memory, it supports 12 hours and 40 min, so up to 19 hours recording is supported. The SMX-C14 has the picture function and supports 4:3 / 16:9 modes. The resolution of 4:3 mode is 800×600 and 1600×1200, and 16:9 mode is 848×480 and 1696×960.

Easy, but different!

SMX-C10_14HANDSONMOBILE <Functions>

SMX-C10_15HANDSONMOBILE This camcorder has normal digital camcorder functions, but it’s not easy to understand all the options and use them. The SMX-C10/C14 supports the iScene mode and EasyQ mode. These 2 functions are to automatically set options according to the situations quickly.

SMX-C10_16HANDSONMOBILE The iScene function can be checked and changed through the men, and when changing the mode by the iScene, if there’s a set value which is the same as the automatically set value, it changes to the automatic set value. The iScene supports 15 modes such as sport, portrait, spotlight, beach, snow, fast movement, food, waterfalls, sunny, cloudy, fluorescent light, light bulb, evening, and deep night. When setting the auto mode, it changes to the optimized mode.

Users can set resolution, 16:9, exposure compensation, backlight compensation, focus, HDIS, effects, fader, wind noise elimination, digital zoom, interval recording, and guideline. The video resolution and 16:9 setting can be set like I explained before, and the exposure compensation can be adjusted to +-2, so it’s convenient to change brightness. The backlight compensation makes you get brighter picture, if objects are taken darkly due to the backlight. The focus can be set to auto, face recognition, and manual setting. The auto sets the focus on the close objects, the face recognition sets the focus when it recognizes objects as a person on the screen by eyes, nose, and mouth, and the manual sets the focus by using the way button located on the left side of the LCD. The HDIS has been improved from the DIS, so more smooth videos can be recorded.

SMX-C10_17HANDSONMOBILE This supports 11 effects such as normal, black and white, sepia, reversion, art, emboss, mosaic, mirror, pastel, whitish, and step printing. For normal video, ‘norma’l, for old style video ‘black and white’, or ‘sepia’, for a reversed video ‘reversion’, and for a video like a comics ‘art’ can be selected. You can choose ‘emboss’ for 3 dimension feeling, ‘mosaic’ for mosaic, ‘mirror’ for symmetry video, ‘pastel’ for pastel feeling video, ‘whitish’ for clean and transparent feeling video, and ‘step printing’ for low frame video.

SMX-C10_18HANDSONMOBILE The fader is fading effect like a TV or a movie, and 3 settings such as beginning, end, and beginning-end are supported. When it’s noisy, setting the wind noise elimination, the noise is reduced. Basically, this supports 10x optical zoom, and setting the digital zoom, up to 1200x zoom is possible.

SMX-C10_19HANDSONMOBILE You have seen sunrise and sunset, and flower blooming with sunshine for many times. The interval recording makes it possible to watch the long time scene such as natural phenomenon. This supports 3 guidelines such as cross, lattice, and TV stable region, so according to angles and output type, users can use the appropriate guideline.

SMX-C10_20HANDSONMOBILE For those who don’t want to use the iscene mode, there’s a Easy.Q mode. This mode is an auto mode of digital camera, sets every option automatically and optimizes them. It’s useful in various situations, because optimized setting is possible. However, once using this option, users can’t change any options. The 2 modes and options can also be applied to the picture function of C14 for great pictures.

SMX-C10_21HANDSONMOBILE Through the mode button located on the side, users can check and edit videos. Through this mode, users can preview the recorded video, and for functions, play setting, delete, protection, storyboard print, print, and sharing functions are supported.

SMX-C10_22HANDSONMOBILE The video which the cursor is located can be previewed, and when selecting it, it’s played on the full screen. 4 options such as whole play, play one, repeat whole, and repeat one are supported. Recorded videos can be edited without any separate program, and the basically provided editing functions are divide and mix. Going into the play mode->menu->edit->divide, you can see the selection screen, and once choosing it, it starts to play, and after pausing, selecting the divide button activated, the division is executed. Executing Edit->Mix, the screen becomes the same screen as the screen making the playlist. And selecting the 2 files, the order is displayed, and the OK button is activated. Once touching the Ok, the mix is started.

SMX-C10_23HANDSONMOBILE The storyboard print randomly takes out 16 scenes from a video, and stores them as a picture. Through this picture, people will know the content of the video without watching the video, so it’s very useful, when uploading a video on the web.

Review: Knocking on the front LCD of ST550(TL225)!!

Here is a review about Samsung ST550 dual LCD digital camera.

Review: Let’s dig a ST550(TL225) fresh review

Here is a review about Samsung ST550 digital cameral.

Different from last year, in this year, there was no many tropical nights, but since August, it’s has been hot, so the tourists are crowed with a lot of people. (My friends are busy to make a plan for vacation. I’m so sorry that I can’t enjoy the vacation for my personal reason.) When I look at the people taking pictures with a digital camera in a tourist, I envy them very much.

For this vacation season, digital camera makers have released their distinguished new products. The ST550(TL225) I’m reviewing from Samsung Digital Imaging is a sensible designed product like other ST series, and I could see this product has the innovative front display. (Users having good sense already knew that.)

It’s so long time ago, since I reviewed a camera, so I’m a little afraid and nervous. Through the review of the ST550(TL225), let’s take a look at the design, functions, and performance.

More details about ST550(TL225) here.

bar2

top35

I didn’t have any inconvenience to carry this, because of the size 99.8×59.8×18.6mm and the weight 165.7g. (Certainly, it’s a little bigger and heavier than other ST series, so I couldn’t be satisfied with the portability for 100%. However, with a little more weight, I could take more stable shots than before.)

The design of the product is so satisfactory, and I think this is one of the best design cameras among all Samsung digital Imaging cameras which I’ve reviewed so far. The wide screen to minimize the button part is so outstanding, and the high-glossy UV coating for sensible and elegant feeling is also very satisfactory. (There’s no extra part, and it’s so sharp and neat product. If you think the design is important for a digital camera, I strongly recommend this product.)

top24

top36 It’s the front of the body. It has 27~124.2mm (There’s no problem to take wide and standard angle shots. I think it’s a quite ideal angle.) Schneider protruding optical zoom lens(4.6x), and it supports F3.5(W)~5.9(T). (It’s quite different from the WB series having F2.8.) @Not only does it support 12.2M pixels, but also it has Dual IS function, so you can take satisfactory pictures any time.

There’s a flash on the left top, and on the lens side, there’s AF&Self timer lamp. It also has the front display (World’s first), so perfect self shot is possible. (It’s totally different from a convex lens or face recognition. You can take a self shot with looking at your face, so the picture is much more satisfactory.) @It supports the Smart gesture UI, so tapping on the front LCD, it  is automatically activated.

top23

top38

It’s the top of the body. In the center, a microphone is attached, so you can easily record the sound when recording a video. On the side, a power button is located (Because LED is also located, you can easily see the status of power.), and shutter button and zoom buttons are also there. (On the bottom, the status display LED and play buttons are located, so you can easily see videos and pictures.) @ Zoom button is small compared to other products, so at first, I couldn’t be used to it. I think it should have been better if it changes the position with the play button and the size and angle of the zoom button.

top5

top37 It’s the back of the product. Different from other product having some buttons, it has adopted the 3.5 inch wide (1,152K color) wide touch LCD for better display. (Even though it’s the TFT LCD, I could fee the same vividness and strength as the OLED of the WB1000. It also has a good viewing angle, and the touch response was also very good. And as a haptic product, it was so impressive that it supports the vibration feedback.) @This minimizes the buttons, so almost all functions have to be controlled by touch, but there was no inconvenience much. The large display makes finger touch easier. Moreover, like other touch panel installed product, it supports the gesture function, so rotation, magnification, and delete of pictures can be done by fingers. (Please, refer to the video preview.)

top13

top12 It’s the left side of the product, and you can see the strap ring there. (You can connect the hand strap included and hang on your neck.)

top39

top19 top40

It’s the bottom of the product. The mount hall for tripod connection is installed and 34 pin for USB and A/V connection is also located. (It’s not universal 20 pin, but 34 pin. Using an accessory not included, HDMI output is possible.) On the side, battery is attached with the card slot. (Unlike other product, it has Micro SD memory. They said it guarantees 4GB, but the 8GB MicroSDHC was perfectly recognized.) @It also supports 55MB internal memory.top9

top8

It’s the simple comparison of size. We can see the small size of the product. (The size is similar to smart phones or premium MP3P.)

@ Body, Power adaptor, USB cable, battery, hand strap, A/V cable, CD (Including user manual), and quick manual are provided, and case, memory card, HDMI cable / adaptor, and remote controller will be on sale.

bar3 top3 We’ve looked at the design and features. Now, let’s take a look at the functions this supports.ui901

It’s the main UI. As a touch screen product, we can see various additional functions can be set here. On the left top, the mode is displayed, and on the lower part, flash, self timer, and front LCD settings are possible. On the right side, including the motion recognition setting button, menu buttons are provided, and on the lower part, the quick menu is displayed. (Through the quick menu, you don’t need to go into each menu. You can simply set the function.) @ The motion recognition function is so impressive. Like the picture, holding the button and tilting the camera to this direction, the mode and function are automatically executed.ui902

We can see it supports 6 modes. Including the smart auto which automatically recognizes a scene and allows us to take satisfactory pictures, it supports auto program mode, and unlike other low range product supporting DIS, this basically supports Dual IS mode. This also supports scene mode including the beauty shot and video function, so the camera is useful for a lot of works. (Through the HD video recording function, this can also be used as a camcorder.)

Review: Easy & Minimalizm by SAMSUNG SMX-C10

Here is a review about Samsung C10 camcorder.

Not as big as a digital camera market, the camcorder market has been increased. Unlike a few years ago some manufacturers monopolized, recently various companies have been releasing their new products with distinguished design, functions, and performance. It makes users consider more in a good way. (Personally, I hate monopoly and oligopoly, because hard competition can cause a new technology more quickly at a reasonable price.)

Samsung is one of the manufacturers in the hard competition market. Unlike former years which were not impressive, now they have been releasing great products in quality, portability, functions, and design, and their market share gets higher.

The SMX-C10 which I’m reviewing is good enough to be popular. This reminds me of the word ‘Minimalism’ and with a simple, cute design the ergonomic design is so impressive. Thanks to the reasonable price different from other full HD camcorder, I think it will be very popular.

I usually don’t use the word ‘Cute’, but looking at the C10, I just said ‘This is cute’ without even realizing it. Let’s take a look at the design, function, and qualtiy with the review.

SMX-C10_01noteforum SMX-C10_22noteforum This is the full kit, and we can see various accessories are included. Body, power adaptor, battery, hand strap, USB cable, and AV cable are provided. Besides, quick manual and instruction CD are also included, although they are not in the picture. (This also supports a built-in software. After connecting USB, you can use the Intelli Studio program.)

@ When it comes to the SMX-C10 which I’m reviewing, it doesn’t support the picture function. However, when it comes to the SMX-C14, it supports not only the picture, but also 16GB internal memory, so it’s more convenient to use.

SMX-C10_23noteforum With 38.5 x 56.5 x 114mm of size and 156g of weight, the portability is really great. (I think this is the biggest advantage of the C10. Former products also had good portability, but when holding them, I felt like a little bit big, but the C10 is enough to be held in one hand. This product has the utmost portability, I can say.)

The design is also good enough to catch eyes. It succeeds the ergonomic design of the R10 and has a good grip. On top of that, by adopting high glossy UV coating, it also has high grade feeling. (Especially, the finishing is also satisfactory, so it’s not giving any feel of low price range products at all. I d really like to recommend this product to users who want cute and elegant pocket camcorders.)

SMX-C10_45noteforum Like the picture, this product will come with red, blue, and grey colors, and the double molding which Samsung concentrates on is also very impressive. (This is a high-tech molding technology putting 2 plastic sticks together, and the colors become different depending on the angle of viewers. I know someone working for this molding technology, and I heard he was trying his best to get the better quality for months 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This is good looking, but hard to be created.)

SMX-C10_32noteforum SMX-C10_24noteforum This is the front, and we can see the Samsung lens supporting 10x optical zoom (1200x digital zoom). (Unlike other products, the scratch protecting lens is located, so without the lens cap, the lens is safe from pollution or damage. You don’t need to worry about a lens cap every time when recording.) On the bottom, 2 microphones are located to allow users to record voice more clearly.

@You can see the direction of the lens is different from other products. The 25 inclined lens of the C10 prevents your wrist bent. Unlike other shooting type products giving fatigue on wrist, the C10 minimizes the fatigue with the ergonomic design.

SMX-C10_40noteforum SMX-C10_25noteforum It’s the right side of the product. We can see it has the swivel LCD to set angles freely. (Thanks to the adjustable angle, users can shoot with any angles comfortably.)

SMX-C10_19noteforum SMX-C10_26noteforum The 230K pixels 2.7 inch TFT LCD is installed. (By supporting LCD compensation function, users can check the recording status under the sunlight.) Unlike other high-end products, it doesn’t support the touch screen, but with the jog button on the side as in the picture, there’s no inconvenience to select a function or play videos. (I’m going to explain more, but anyway the UI of the C10 is so simple. Although it doesn’t support the touch screen, it’s very easy to control the product.) @ You can see the Menu button and recording button are also attached. When it comes to the jog button, it supports normal menu selection and zoom function also.

SMX-C10_27noteforum It’s the right inside, and various buttons are located. Including the power button, play, Easy Q, display, and share button are here, and you can see mini 5 pin port and speaker. (Unlike other product needing an exclusive charger, the C10 supports USB charge function. With the great compatibility, it can transfer data and be charged with any PC using the mini 5 pin.

SMX-C10_18noteforum SMX-C10_28noteforum It’s the back of the product. Unlike other products using a cap which is not fixed, this mode adopts the sliding cap. (It might be small, but I was satisfied with this very much.) Battery status LED and recording button are located, and battery/memory slot, power slot, and AV port are also located inside. @Unlike the C14 supporting 16GB, the C10 doesn’t have internal memory. However, it supports up to 32GB SDHC, so I don’t think there will be any inconvenience to watch high quality videos.

SMX-C10_49noteforum @ Charging & Recording & Playing time

SMX-C10_17noteforum SMX-C10_44noteforum It’s the left side, and you can see the strap ring. (Like the picture, you can use the hand strap provided, or you can buy another necklace to hang on your neck. It’s small and light enough to be hung on your neck.

SMX-C10_29noteforum It’s the top of the product, and you can see there’s a zoom lever. (When holding it, your index finger is located on it, so you can easily adjust the zoom. Like other high grade products, you can adjust the zooming speed depending on the intensity of your finger, so you can record better videos.)

SMX-C10_20noteforum SMX-C10_30noteforum It’s the bottom of the product, and you can see there s a mount hole for tripod connection. (2 holes are provided for exclusive tripod of camcorder.)

SMX-C10_47noteforum SMX-C10_42noteforum Most of the time, I felt a camcorder filling my hand. However, when it comes to the C10, I could feel a little space, because it s so small.

SMX-C10_50noteforum SMX-C10_31noteforum The ergonomic design is so outstanding (Like the picture, different from other shooting type products making wrist bent, with this camcorder, you can record without wrist bent. Those who record for a long time will not feel any fatigue on your wrist, I think.) Due to the small size, the grip was so satisfactory. (When it comes to the R10, I felt a little burden when holding it, but the C10 is very good to hold.)

SMX-C10_21noteforum These are accessories included such as AV cable, hand strap, power adaptor, USB cable, and battery

Review: The Best Self Shot! Samsung ST550(TL225) - Appearance

Here is a review about Samsung ST550 dual LCD digital camera.

clip_image001

In a camera market, compact digital cameras has a different line from DSLR cameras, People select a compact digital camera, because of a lot of reasons such as portability, convenience, and so on, not if it’s professional or not. This tendency of customers is still the reason people buy compact digital cameras.

Like I mentioned, a lot of customers want compact digital cameras, but recently, just small, light, and stylish compact digital cameras are not good enough to appeal to customers.

That’s why camera makers have been releasing high-end or professional type digital cameras with the advantages I told.

Samsung also have been releasing a lot of compact digital cameras with high technology, and getting high evaluation. Today, I’d like to introduce the new ST series ST550(TL225).clip_image002

The ST550(TL225) as a following model of the ST50(TL100) has 12.2M pixels CCD, 3.5” wide full touch screen, and 1.5” TFT LCD dual LCD on the front. Unlike other products, it is optimized for self shots. (This model I’m reviewing is for a test, so it might be different from an official model.clip_image003

Hidden - Front Display

Looking at the overall design of the ST550(TL225), it has adopted the high glossy on the front, and side and back are designed with no-glossy black. The lens surrounding Schneider Kreuznach engraved is made of silver metal, so it’s the design point of the simple design.

The Samsung logo is on the left top, and a flash on the right of the logo. The lens is located on the right side. On the right top of the lens, AF and self timer lamp are located. Looking at the front, it doesn’t seem there’s a special function, but on the left of the lens, something special is hidden.clip_image004

When using it, it doesn’t seem it has any special something. However, when turning on the front LCD, the 1.5” LCD appears. When it comes to a normal digital camera, right and left side of the lens is for a logo, but the ST550(TL225) provides more functions with the front LCD such as self shot.clip_image005

On the back, 3.5” wide full touch display has been adopted, and by reducing the thickness of the surroundings, it seems that it has more space than 3.5”. And by adopting Smart Gesture UI started from a mobile phone and used for the ST series, there’s no button at all, but the full display. Therefore, it has simple and neat appearance.clip_image006

On the top of the ST550(TL225), logo, microphone (Mono), power button, shutter button, zoom in/out button, and play button are located. We can naturally put an index finger on the shutter button, so more convenient shot is possible.clip_image007

Looking at the left and right side of the ST550(TL225), a speaker (Mono) is located, and on the right, a strap ring is located. On the bottom, battery/memory slot, USB 2.0, A/V / HDMI 1.2 output port, and tripod hole are located.

When it comes to a battery, it’s 3.4V 720mAh(2.6Wh) Li-Ion battery, and the memory is the Micro SD type (Up to 4GB) frequently used for a mobile phone.

The battery time is approximately 90 minutes as in specifications (Tested with 12M resolution, High, OIS, with flash or no flash for 5 minutes with 1 minutes of rest)clip_image008

Grip - Touch? Grip?

Looking at the back, you can see the right side of the bezel is a bit thicker than the left. This is because your right index finger on the shutter button is located and your right thumb and palm   grab the right bezel when holding it. Even though the right side is thicker than the left side, a little large size of the LCD considering the body size causes slimmer surroundings, so the grip might be not good enough.

The design of the ST550(TL225) is not rounding, but rectangular, so the grip is a bit unsatisfactory.clip_image009

Especially, because the ST550(TL225) has adopted full touch display, we often touch the screen with a thumb or palm, so we should be more careful. If the touch is locked when pushing a half shutter, it could have been more convenient product.clip_image010

When taking a self shot using the front LCD, the LCD and shutter button are located on the left side, so the LCD might be screened by your right thumb or palm. We need to be more careful.clip_image011

The ST550(TL225) has 99.8 x 59.8 x 18.6mm of size (except the protruding part) and 167.5g of weight (except memory card and battery), so the portability is okay.clip_image012

Each Icon

Turning on the ST550(TL225), various icons are displayed on the wide screen. These icons can be controlled quickly and intuitively by touching them, and various functions are hidden here.clip_image013

Looking at it from the left side, shot mode, setting icon, the number of available shots, external memory, and battery status are located.

6 shot modes such as Auto, Smart Auto, Program, Scene, Dual IS, and Video are supported.

This supports various shot modes such as Smart Auto recognizing scenes automatically, 16 scene modes (Beauty shot, Frame guide, Night scenery, Portrait, Children, Scenery, Macro, Character, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Firework, Beach, and Snow), and Dual IS mode (Combination of OIS and DIS).

The icon on the right side of the shot mode is a function icon which set to auto or manual, and you can see various setting icons such as Photo/Video resolution, Photometry, Exposure, ISO, Photo style, Image compensation, and so on, so it helps you see the current setting at once.clip_image014

When it comes to a shot mode, you can change the mode by using the motion recognition sensor. While pushing the motion recognition icon on the right center, tilting the camera up, it goes to Video, down to Program, and left to Smart Auto mode.

When you need some fast mode change, this function would be very useful. I hope the custom mode which users manually set the most frequently used shot mode will be supported later.

Review: Made for Self Shots, Samsung Digital Imaging ST550(TL225)

Here is a review about Samsung ST550 dual LCD digital camera.

Opening a new world of digital cameras

The common thing of Dual LCD phone, Dual core and Dual CPU which were innovative is the successful reversion from single to dual and more convenience and effectiveness. Recently, Samsung Digital Imaging (www.samsungcamera.com) has released the Dual LCD (Front 1.5” and Back 3.5”) digital camera ST550(TL225). The 1.5” front LCD upgrades the convenience of self shots in the ST10(CL50). Moreover, the high glossy material on the front, 18.6mm slim design, 1,1520,000 pixels 3.5” LCD, and gesture functions for file management provides a new direction of digital cameras. We need to see if this trial is going to be successful. Let’s take a look at the probability.

02

Elegant black and high glossy material

The color of cameras has been black for a long time. DSLR cameras are still black, because it’s for professionals. The color of cameras has been more various, because makers think of main customers as new generations, but this product is basically black like DSLR cameras. However, the thick color lines from the left side of the body to the top and right below create its own identity. Based on the stable black, stable and elegant design has been made with this colorful line.

03

Samsung Electronics has been successful with the high glossy material on the frame of the LCD TV. This design has also been applied to LCD monitors and welcomed. As if following this, the front of the ST550(TL225) is coated with high glossy material. It leaves a trace as a Samsung product in design. And the black color adds more elegant design. Due to high glossy coated material on the front, it looks likes there’s no auxiliary LCD. This intended to reduce the disharmony caused by the new auxiliary LCD.

Self shots become important by the advent of mini hompi and blog, so a lot of functions making a face more beautiful have been added, but not in the convenience. Except the swivel mirror of the ST10(CL50), most of them tried it with the rotation of the LCD. And this was not for self shot, but for the convenience of adjustment of shot angles.

clip_image005

Front LCD communicating with human

The ST550(TL225) has 1.5” LCD on the left side of the lens. This can prevent malfunction and inconvenience caused by the rotation of LCD. Furthermore, the auxiliary LCD makes it more convenient and fun to use. Turning on the ST550(TL225) and tapping the front LCD, you can see yourself from the LCD. The front LCD is 230K pixels, so the quality is not as good as the LCD on the back, but it’s very useful. Through this idea, they have made the trend of this generation more emotional like interaction between human and machine.

clip_image006

If you have children, I’m sure that you have an experience to take their pictures. The ST550(TL225) can play a funny animation drawing their attention through the front LCD. And when setting a timer, it shows the countdown.

clip_image007

Talking with touch, Gesture

The fun expression of the ST550(TL225) has also been made with software. When playing photos, by drawing gestures with your fingertips, you can execute the functions such as turn, delete, rotation, and move. Moreover, by tilting the body about 15 degree to left/right, it turns to the next/previous picture. Gesture and tilting could be difficult to beginners, but it’s more intuitive and easier than the LCD button once you get used to it.

clip_image013

Smart Auto for beginners

Unlike 11 scene modes from the ST10(CL50) or ST50(TL100), the ST550(TL225) supports 16 scene modes such as Scenery, Background, Night Scenery, Backlight portrait, Portrait, Macro, Macro Character, Sunset, Blue Sky and so on. Through these modes, the camera is optimized to take a shot. This is not as good as the custom mode, but very convenient for beginners.

clip_image014

clip_image015

Another present for self shot, Smart Face Recognition

It’s not easy to take a self shot, so this function is really convenient. Selecting the self shot mode by tapping the front LCD, it automatically recognizes faces and displays the Face Recognition frame. To set a focus on certain persons, you can register these faces earlier. Up to 20 people can be registered, and this also supports priority set.

clip_image016

No more hand blur! Dual IS (Dual Image Stabilization)

The ST550(TL225) supports both IS functions optical and digital. The optical IS detects the shake of camera or lens and compensates it. When the optical IS is not enough, digital IS can also be used together.

Review: The Most Compact Camcorder, HMX-U10

Here is a review about Samsung U10 camcorder.

One of the biggest advantages of the U10 is the 10 Mega pixels photo shot function. Looking at the buttons on the top, 3 buttons are located. They are Video, Photo, and Play buttons with the sun. You don’t have to change the mode from Video/Photo, but you can just shoot what you want with this convenient interface.

2_01

2_02

untitled-3

There are 6 sizes for pictures. Smaller size might give you slightly better detail, but I recommend 10M full size. It’s not easy for me to evaluate accurately, because it’s not an official product, but anyway, the quality is great enough to take a still shot from time to time while recording a video. Besides, compared with still images of high end camcorders, it’s better than them in some points, I think. For your reference, you can’t take a still shot while recording a video.

2_04

Due to the feature of the sensor, there’s some noise and saturation is kind of low, but it has great details. It’s better to take snap or scenery shots, since it has a limit of distance in shots.

Simple Upload, built-in Intelli-Stuido Software

Simple Uploading and sharing system is the most important part of the P&S camcorder. UCC camcorders like the U10 appeals to UCC users with how simply or easily it can upload and share files. Looking at the buttons of the U10, there’s a sharing mark on the right below. When playing, if you push the thumbnail or sharing button, the sharing mark comes up, and when connecting to a PC, it prepares the situation to allow you transfer files to web sites such as YouTube.

When connecting the U10 to a PC, Intelli-Studio automatically runs and the message ‘Upload is possible with the sharing button’ pops up. Pushing the sharing button on the U10, you can easily upload videos you set before.

Review: Finding Myself with the GPS, Samsung Digital Imaging ST1000(CL65)

High completion Convergence Compact digital camera

clip_image001

A new digital camera comes up like the expression Technology makes convergence, and the convergence makes the best. The ST1000(CL65) recently released from Samsung Digital Imaging is that. It has the GPS to display the location of users. This can transfer photos on the web through WiFi and to devices supporting Bluetooth. In addition, the ST1000(CL65) has a lot of more convenient functions. Let’s take a look at the new unique digital camera.

clip_image002

Combination of 3 colors

Generally, it has a no-glossy black body. When it’s off, the black LCD and the black body are consistent in design. The front part made of metal with hairline and coated has also practice. Between the black body and the front, there’s a unique color line, and it looks different due to the color on the front for the same model.

clip_image003

When holding the camera, it’s kind of heavy. It might be because of the metal on the front, but I think it’s because of the 156g of weight (Except battery and memory), and it’s caused by GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth modules. The size is 99.8×60.8×18.9mm.

clip_image004

GPS reminding of memories

If you have an experience to try to remember the place where you took the picture, the ST1000(CL65) is a good idea. The GPS receiver records the location automatically, so you don’t have to remember it. It’s so trustable because it has adopted WGS-84 system which has been adopted by most of the car navigations. You can match the picture GPS tag recorded with the map in the Intelli-Studio of the ST1000(CL65) or check the location on the web site like Picasa supporting Map searching service. However, in the area with a lot of buildings, the receiving rate of GPS is not that good. It’s the same as car navigations couldn’t get signals in the basement, but taking pictures is made in indoors or downtown, so it’s definitely weakness of the ST1000(CL65).

clip_image005

Using the built-in Intelli-Studio, you can check the location of pictures.

clip_image006

If uploading pictures on the web sites supporting GPS like Google, Picasa, etc., you can easily see the location.

clip_image007

A lot of people store photos in a computer. They just change the precious moment to digital signals made of 0 and 1 and forget. The ST1000(CL65) can prevent this situation.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0

The ST1000(CL65) has Wi-Fi in the body. If you can connect free AP (Access Point), you can upload pictures and videos on the web site. Of course, emailing is possible. You don’t need to worry about the money like the TV commercial worrying about the money of web-surfing. Besides, it also supports transfer between the ST1000(CL65)s, range of contents sharing, and the TV connection through DLNA. There’s some limitation to upload pictures using Wi-Fi. The size of pictures is limited to 2MB, and the video is 320×240 for up to 30 sec. Considering YouTube supporting 1280×720 HD resolution, it’s not satisfactory. And also 30 seconds are not enough to record a video. I hope the firmware will be updated later.

clip_image008

It supports Bluetooth 2.0. Unlike a cell phone, it’s not for connection of headsets. This will be useful to transfer pictures to cell phones or PDA. However, the size of pictures will change to 640×480.

clip_image009

The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the ST1000(CL65) is incomparable to USB. Through easy connection, you can share your pictures. That’s the point. We need to see the improvement of Samsung Digital Imaging as the world’s first Wi-Fi Bluetooth digital camera.

Review: Opening the New World, Samsung Digitral Imaging, ST1000 (CL65)

Here is a review about Samsung ST1000 GPS digital camera.

clip_image001

People always want something from their products. From pixel competition in the digital camera market, all makers have produced products with high pixels that people couldn’t feel difference any more, and keep releasing new products to satisfy customers’ new needs. However, from now, no one can tell they satisfy customers, because of the ST1000(CL65) from Samsung Digital Imaging.

clip_image002

With the size of 99.8 X 60.8 X 18.9mm and fresh color, the ST1000(CL65) has most of the functions and technology people imagined. Especially, it has the most difficult network functions as a digital camera such as Bluetooth2.0, DLNA, GPS and WiFi.

“In the morning, on the way to work, I started the day with taking pictures in a new coffee shop, uploading it on Picasa, and telling it to friends. At a lunch time, I took pictures of co-workers with out-focusing and emailed the pictures of the meeting place. After work, I sent a picture of a restaurant to my friend, and saw the pictures of night scenery on a HDTV by connecting wireless DLNA.”

This story had been kind of a dream before the ST1000(CL65) was released. However, now it’s real.

clip_image003

clip_image004

The appearance of the ST1000(CL65) with 156g of weight is so great. Not only the appearance. Especially, the Schneider lens without protrusion makes the design better and supports optical 5x zoom with 35-175mm focus length, F3.6-4.8, and 12.2M pixels.

Next to the Samsung logo, internal antenna is included for various communications.

clip_image005

On the top of the product, an antenna for GPS, Status lamp, Zoom, Power, and Shutter buttons are located.

clip_image006

This picture is that someone is taking pictures with the ST1000(CL65). The 1.15M pixels 3.5” (8.9cm) wide full touch LCD shows the image as it is and supports various touch functions.

Especially, using GPS, the GPS option on the right side in a blur color displays ON, and it gives the information of your present location. The information covers up to precinct and famous cities in the world can be displayed.

Let’s upload pictures on Picasa displaying images with their location.

clip_image007

This is the screen of Picasa I uploaded a picture on with the GPS function. Because it also displays the location when taking a shot, the exact location which the picture was taken is displayed with coordinates. Therefore, you can share not only the pictures but also the locations with your friends, so you don’t need to have a question of the location any more.

Samsung Press Release

SAMSUNG DIGITAL IMAGING INTRODUCES THE WORLD’S FIRST MULTI-WIRELESS DIGITAL COMPACT CAMERA – ST1000

Capture and share pictures on-the-go with built-in ‘3 Wireless Connectivity’

13th August 2009 - Samsung Digital Imaging, leaders in innovation and technology, today unveiled the ST1000 camera with never before seen built-in geo-tagging, Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi* connectivity. Offering consumers an ‘always on’ experience, users can now send and post pictures almost as quickly as they take them, whilst the GPS capabilities will keep track of exactly where each picture was shot.

Multi-Wireless Connectivity

Thanks to the in-built GPS, the ST1000 displays the city name and region on the camera’s LCD screen, providing users with a real-time display of their location and reference for when they are reviewing and managing images.

Using Bluetooth 2.0 technology, users can wirelessly beam their favourite images to other compatible mobile phone devices. With the Wi-Fi technology, users can email photos direct from their camera and upload their photos or videos to selected popular social networking websites including Facebook, Picasa, YouTube, without needing to connect to a PC. The ST1000 is also DLNA compliant (Digital Living Network Alliance), allowing users to wirelessly connect the camera to other DLNA compliant devices, such as HDTVs, digital picture frames, media servers or gaming systems in their networked home to view and share their precious moments.

The ST1000 comes with the ‘intelli-studio’ PC software package embedded in the camera itself. The software can be used for viewing, editing and managing pictures and the clever part of it being built into the camera means it automatically loads onto your computer when you connect your camera to it. Through the intelli-studio software users can then easily pinpoint their images and link to popular social media photo-sharing sites, such as Google Earth and Google Maps**.

“This new powerhouse point-and-shoot camera will raise the bar for innovation and set a new standard by which all other manufacturers will be measured,” said Steve Mitchell, General Manager Marketing for Samsung Digital Imaging.

“Never before has a manufacturer provided such a range of technologies in a compact digital camera, giving consumers unprecedented flexibility when it comes to how, when and where they share their digital images,”

Packed full of innovation and encased in a sleek compact frame, the ST1000 sports the world’s highest resolution 3.5” Wide touch screen LCD*** at 1152k pixels, with almost four times the size of many other cameras, giving an enhanced viewing experience.

Smart Gesture User-Interface

Showcasing further innovations, a Smart Gesture User Interface (UI) with built-in orientation sensor, means a simple tap or hand gesture allows users to access key features quickly.

Smart Touch Auto Focus

The 12.2 megapixel ST1000 comes with a powerful 35mm and 5x optical zoom lens, providing clean and clear images with even resolution from the centre of images to the edges.

Additionally, the camera’s touch screen user interface provides users with Samsung’s innovative and intuitive Smart Touch Auto Focus system. This puts complete command of the camera’s focusing system right at the photographers’ fingertips, allowing them to pinpoint the exact area they wish to lock their focus on by simply touching the location on the LCD screen. Users can also automatically trigger the camera to then take the image by continuing to hold the location with their fingertip.

Smart Auto (Scene Recognition)

Take professional-looking photos with Samsung’s advanced Smart Auto feature so you never have to worry about your photos being washed out, too dark or out of focus. Smart Auto analyzes key elements of your composition such as colour, brightness, motion and subject and then automatically adjusts to take the perfect shot.

Smart Face Recognition

Samsung’s innovative Smart Face Recognition technology actually remembers faces it sees frequently and then prioritises them when focussing and exposing future shots. It can store up to 20 recognised faces in the cameras’ internal memory and allows users to search for their favourite faces in playback. This can be done quickly by using the ‘Face’ search in Smart Album, instead of viewing every single photo on the memory card.

In “Blink Detection Mode” the camera will take a series of shots when closed eyes are detected so everyone is captured with their eyes open; in “Smile Mode” a picture is automatically taken when smiles are detected and, in “Beauty Shot” mode, facial skin is retouched to three different user defined levels for brighter and smoother skin tones.

HD Movie Recording

The ST1000 records HD video in 1280x720p resolution, and at 30 frames per second in H.264 format. This format allows more than twice as much recording capacity as the MP4 format, so gives you more room on your memory card for images and movies. The ST1000 also features HDMI connectivity via an optional adapter, so you can see your HD video creations in glorious HD on an HD TV.

The ST1000 is available in silver/red, black/black, red/black, black/gold and blue/grey colours. All will be available from leading high street and online retailers from late August 2009. Samsung Cameras include a one year warranty. Customers requiring further information should call 0845 726 7864 or visit samsungcamera.co.uk

Review: Samsung ST500 / ST550

The Photographyblog posted a review about Samsung ST550 dual LCD digital camera.

News image

Samsung Digital Imaging today announced the arrival of the ultra slim, 12.2-megapixel ST550 and ST500 compact cameras, which boast a ‘world first’: front and back LCD display technology for easy self-portraits. The hidden 1.5” LCD located on the front of the camera allows consumers to take accurate portraits using the front image as a guide – whether it’s a group shot with friends or a snap of yourself on holiday. There is no need to even press the shutter button – a big smile is enough to trigger the cameras to take the picture. On the reverse, the Samsung ST550 features the world’s highest resolution 3.5” wide touch screen LCD. A Smart Gesture User Interface with built-in orientation sensor, means a simple tap or hand gesture allows users to access key features quickly. Furthermore, the ST550 and ST500’s One Touch Auto Focus feature allows you to focus on a user-defined part of the frame by simply touching the desired area. Both the ST500 and the ST550 come with a 27-124mm equivalent zoom lens. 720p video recording at 30 frames per second rounds off the feature set of the new cameras, the difference being that only the ST550 also features HDMI connectivity via an optional adapter. The ST500 will be available in silver, red and blue colours, and the ST550 will come in black, gold, orange and purple from late August. The US versions of these cameras are called the Samsung TL220 and the Samsung TL225, and will hit the shelves in September priced at $299.99 and $349.99, respectively.

Samsung Press Release

SAMSUNG UNVEILS ST550 AND ST500 DIGITAL COMPACT CAMERAS – INNOVATIVE CAMERAS WITH WORLD’S FIRST FRONT AND BACK LCD SCREENS

Front and back display helps you take the perfect self portrait

13th August 2009 - Samsung Digital Imaging, leaders in innovation and technology, today announced the arrival of the ultra slim and stylish ST550 and ST500 compact cameras which boast yet another ‘world first’: front and back LCD display technology.

Delivering an unrivalled user experience, the hidden 1.5” LCD located on the front of the camera allows consumers to take accurate portraits using the front image as a guide – whether it’s a group shot with friends or a snap of yourself on holiday. There is no need to even press the shutter button – just a big smile will trigger the cameras to take the picture.

On the reverse, the Samsung ST550 features the world’s highest resolution 3.5” wide touch screen LCD*, almost four times the size of many other cameras, complete with haptic feedback for ease of use.

Complementing this, the 12.2 mega pixel cameras also use the perfect combination of a 27mm wide angle Schneider KREUZNACH lens with 4.6x optical zoom. This gives the photographer a wider shooting range from a shorter distance, producing clear, clean images with even resolution from the centre of the picture right to the edges.

“These cameras are the very first of their kind,” said Steve Mitchell, General Manager Marketing, Samsung Digital Imaging Division.

“The use of digital imaging technologies has evolved and we are offering functionality and capabilities that no other digital camera manufacturer has yet addressed. These cameras will be must-haves for those individuals that use popular social networking websites and for families that want to get everyone, including the photographer, in the picture.”

Smart Gesture User Interface (UI)

Showcasing further innovations, a Smart Gesture User Interface (UI) with built-in orientation sensor, means a simple tap or hand gesture allows users to access key features quickly. A simple tap can also turn the front LCD on instantly, ready to take the perfect self portrait photo.

One touch shooting and Auto-Focus

Sometimes the focal point of your picture is not always in the centre of the frame. The ST550 and ST500’s One Touch Auto Focus feature allows you to focus on a different part of the shot by simply touching the desired area. Once you’ve selected the focal point, you can simply leave your finger on the screen for two seconds or push the shutter button to take the picture.

Smart Auto (Scene Recognition)

Take professional-looking photos with Samsung’s advanced Smart Auto feature so you never have to worry about your photos being washed out, too dark or out of focus. Smart Auto analyses key elements of your composition such as colour, brightness, motion and subject and then automatically adjusts to take the perfect shot.

HD Movie Recording

The ST500 and ST550 record HD video in 1280x720p resolution at 30 frames per second in H.264 format. This format allows more than twice as much recording capacity as the MP4 format, so gives you more room on your memory card for images and movies. The ST550 also features HDMI connectivity via an optional adapter, so you can see your HD video creations in glorious HD on an HD TV.

Dual Image Stabilization/Perfect Self Portrait & Perfect Self Timer

Samsung’s Dual Image Stabilization technology combines advanced Digital and Optical image stabilization to ensure outstanding photos without blur – even in low light conditions.  Couple this with the new front facing LCD screen and Samsung’s Perfect Self Portrait & Perfect Self Timer functions, and taking professional looking pictures of yourself and others is easy.

The ST500 is available in silver, red and blue colours and the ST550 is available in black, gold, orange and purple colours. All will be available from leading high street and online retailers from late August 2009. Samsung Cameras include a one year warranty. GPS-equipped Samsung ST1000 camera leaked

Mirror.co.UK has posted a product review about Samsung ST1000 GPS digital camera.

st1000-liveWhile Sony might be going for the low light wow factor with its new Cyber-shot TX1 and Cyber-shot WX1 cameras, but Samsung has opted for the geotagging hook on its forthcoming Samsung ST1000 - it’s packing built-in GPS.

Hastily-snapped spy shots show that the ST1000 is a 12.2MP snapper with a compact body and 5x optical zoom Schneider-Kreuznach lens. And there’s a telltale “GPS” module at the top, so you can add this to the ever-growing list of compact cameras with location-finding skills hardwired in.

According to Samsung Hub, the Samsung ST1000 also has a 3.5-inch touchscreen that supports finger gestures, plus image stabilisation and an ISO range of 80 to 4800. There’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth too, plus face and blink detection and “Touch focus”.

The latter feature suggests that this could be the upcoming Samsung “Tap and Take” camera we saw teased last week (or one of several, at least). Expect to find out the truth on 13th August, when Samsung’s teaser site reveals all…

Review: Photo world with Touch – ST550(TL225)

Here is a user review about Samsung ST550 digtital camera.

Functions of digital cameras have been diversified. Therefore, more functions should be added and are supported in one button. Digital camera companies try to satisfy users by releasing digital cameras smaller, slimmer, and having more various functions. However, on the other hand, Samsung starts to install Touch on digital cameras with releasing simpler, slimmer products. That is the ST series from Samsung.

Samsung Digital Imaging has adopted touch technology to the ST550(TL225). It makes the LCD bigger 3.5” by eliminating buttons on the back. And the touch of the Haptic can be used in the ST550(TL225).

+ Acting with gravity?

The UI of the ST550(TL225) has followed previous intuitive interface, so Samsung camera users can easily be adapted to the Touch UI. By adopting Smart Gesture (Motion Recognition), it supports a perfect touch function. Smart Gesture is a function to integrate Mode setting, Play, Drag, Rotation, Delete, Magnification, and so on.

This is the mode change function of Smart Gesture. On the right side of the LCD, clicking the mode change icon with motion to up/down/left/right side, you can change Video, Smart Auto, and Program mode. So by one touch, you can change the setting and take a shot depending on the situation.

+ Easy and convenient with 3.5” touch screen.

The core of the design simplicity of the ST550(TL225) is the 3.5” Haptic touch screen LCD. If you are not satisfied with less than 3” LCD screen, you might be a little confused by the big LCD of the ST550(TL225). All buttons disappear on the back, so all functions can be controlled by touch and motion. And there’s an explanation to help you use the touch screen for beginners. The touch screen is a capacitive type, not a resistive type, so it offers high recognition rate and prevents damages on the LCD.

It’s the 3.5” touch screen and Smart Gesture. By applying the Haptic UI, this intuitive interface is made by icons to be easily changed and selected.

+ Functions with Motion and Touch

- Drawing X on the LCD in Play mode -> Deleting a picture

- Drawing a circle on the LCD in Play mode -> Rotating a picture

- Tilting left/rightward -> Previous/Next photo / Slideshow

- Pushing the button and gesture -> Changing a mode(Smart Auto/Program/Video)

ST1000(CL65) review #2 Performance/Functions/Conclusion

Here is a user review about ST1000 GPS digital camera.

The ST1000(CL65) with GPS/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth.

I’m going to finish this review with my personal comments.

Camera meets wireless!! Easy and simple to share, the ST1000(CL65)

Most of all, the ST1000(CL65) has 12M pixels and 6.3 - 31.5mm (f 3.6 ~ 4.8) Schneider Inner zoom lens. Due to the inner zoom lens, it looks slimmer.

Let’s take a look at the image quality of the ST1000(CL65)

It was taken with 6.3mm wide angle. (Image size is 9M pixels with 16:9 ratio.)

(This product is a sample product for a test, so it might be different from an official product in performance and quality.)

<Maximum wide angle 6.3mm Images>

After cropping the picture (340x340), the quality of the central area is good, but the surrounding area is slightly bad.

This was taken with maximum tele angle 31.5mm. (Image size: 9M pixels, Ration: 16:9)

<Maximum Tele angle 31.5mm image>

Like before, I cropped it (340*340).

There was no big quality difference between central and surrounding areas, but the quality was a little degraded.

Lastly, 5x optical zoom in maximum tele angle wasn’t that good quality. Actually, other digital cameras don’t have good quality in optical or digital zoom.

<Maximum Tele angle + 5x optical zoom image>

I checked noise by ISO. (Cropped)

I took shots with F3.8 9.30mm and F4.0 1.490mm. (Shutter speeds changes by ISO.)

<Noise image by ISO>

The ST1000(CL65) supports up to ISO 3200. There are some digital cameras supporting 6400. However, higher ISO means more noise, so they are not preferred much. No matter how the light is low, ISO 800-1600 is used, but it was okay up to 400, but from 800, it starts to show some noise. (800/1600 are not that bad.)

Lastly, I checked White Balance of the ST1000(CL65).

<Images by White balance>

There are 6 white balances. It makes different color feelings by them, so you need to be careful to select it, but I think Auto is fine. It also supports Custom which is user setting.

There are some ways to judge the performance of a digital camera. Image quality? Color feeling? Noise at high ISO? Personally, I check it by noise at high ISO, image quality of maximum tele/wide angle, and color comparison.

 Let’s find out the functions.

Most of all, the ST1000(CL65) supports Full HD touch screen. (Samsung calls it Haptic UI.)

All menus and most of the functions are controlled with the touch. AF and release are also possible with the touch.

<Main/Menu screen of the ST1000(CL65)>

[ST1000(CL65)] Let’s make a mobile Internet Photo Center by using GPS and WiFi

Following is a user review about Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

The new concept digital camera ST1000(CL65) from Samsung has many fun functions. I’m going to look at this camera focusing on those functions.

There’s no button on the ST1000(CL65). Everything is controlled by the touch screen. The picture above shows that everything can be done by the touch screen in the ST1000(CL65)

Shot function selection is also chosen by the touch screen such as Dual mode, Video recording mode, Auto Smart, Program mode, and Auto mode.

Selecting the Scene function, the camera automatically sets the optimized values. 13 scenes can be selected, and these scenes are also selected from the Auto Smart mode.

The biggest feature of the ST1000(CL65) is GPS and WiFi functions. Using these 2 functions properly, you can take and transfer pictures through the Internet at any places. It means you don’t need a PC any more to share your pictures with people all around the world.

Let’s take a picture with GPS.

Pushing the GPS button, you can see the setting screen of the GPS. An initial value is off. Let’s set it on.

Turning the GPS function on, you can see it receives the GPS information. It takes some time to receive GPS, so setting the GPS on doesn’t mean it works immediately. However, looking at it after 10~15 sec, you can see the activated GPS button and the current location. From the picture above, you can see the blue letter ‘GPS’ change to ‘On’ and ‘Guro-Gu’.

You’ve taken a picture, so let’s transfer it to a sharing web site through the Internet using WiFi. It couldn’t have been better if it supports 3G networking, but it only supports WiFi, not 3G networking. Wherever you get wireless AP, you can use it. Using Wibro Egg, you can transfer pictures through the Egg in the available region.

Pushing the Wireless Network button, this menu comes up. Now it supports Internet transfer, Email transfer, transferring between cameras using DLNA protocol, TV transfer, and Bluetooth. Let’s take a look at the Internet and Email transfer.

Selecting the Internet Transfer function, supported web sites pop up such as Picasa web from Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Samsung Imaging. I don’t like that it doesn’t supports Flickr which is the most popular. Now it’s under negotiation, so we need to wait more.

[ST1000(CL65)] Slender deisgn with WiFi and GPS – Preview

Here is a user review about Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

Reborn with WiFi and GPS, ST1000(CL65)

In analog age, I mean when people used film cameras, they couldn’t imagine this big improvement of camera technology. In the past, the camera market demanded higher pixels and bigger lens. But now, the camera needs mobile and wireless with mobile life.

I shared the news which Dual LCD and GPS and WiFi camera will be installed in new Samsung cameras from Engadget through this blog. I’ve got a change to see and experience the camera.

The ST1000(CL65) is that model having Wireless+Link. The ST1000(CL65) supports not only taking/editing/enjoying, but also moving/sharing/touching as a new paradigm camera.

In 2 weeks, I’m going to preview and review the ST1000(CL65), and I’d like to talk about the Mobility and GPS/Bluetooth function of the ST1000(CL65) (Wireless Link ST1000(CL65)).

This product is a sample, so it might be different from an official product in appearance, performance, and quality.

<Appearance> The previous PL10 becomes smarter and sharper.

When I got the ST1000(CL65) first, I thought the PL10 becomes smarter. Looking at the letter GPS and WiFi, I started wondering the product.

Especially, it has Schneider lens optical 5x zoom 12.2M pixels. That means it has both delicacy and intelligence as a compact camera, so it looks very good for men’s mobile life.

It comes with wine red and dark blue in Korea. From this review, I’m going to show you the wine red body. Like you see from the top, GPS and ST1000(CL65) are clearly shown, and because it includes inner lens, the response of the lens is fast.

Besides, GPS module and some control buttons are properly arranged, but the slightly thick GPS module is insufficient to compose a perfect body line. But it’s wrapped around my hand.

This camera is a Full touch type. Following Full touch MP3 and Smart Full touch phone, the trend of cameras also changes to Full touch type.

The good LCD touch panel is located on the back, and Power/WiFi receiving lamp/Speaker and microphone/Play are arranged. On the top, Power, Shutter button, and Zoom in/out are located, so you can control everything with one hand. (I’m going to show how to use the touch from the review.)

This is a closer shot of the GPS module and Power/WiFi. You will see you can control everything by one hand. When recognizing the signal, the lamp is turned on.

This is Inner zoom lens, Flash spot, and GPS module. It shows the status of WiFi by the lamp on the back, but from the front side, you can only see the GPS status through the LCD screen. There should have been something to show you the status.

*When it comes to a smart phone, it shows the status of WiFi and GPS by a lamp.

I took a shot of the GPS indication. The slim line is so attractive.

The ST1000(CL65) includes a normal big capacity battery, but for a memory card, it supports MicroSD card, not SD/MMC. Using a separate MicroSD card adaptor, you can transfer files or through a transfer cable included in the ST1000(CL65), you can copy pictures or videos.

[ST1000(CL65) Review] How versatile is your digital camera?

Following is a user review about Samsung ST1000 digital camera.

The second review as a VLUU photographer of Samsung Digital Imaging. Now I’m using the ST1000(CL65) from Samsung Digital imaging. I mentioned the appearance, and this time I’m going to talk about the function of the ST1000(CL65). And I would show you the pictures from the recent workshop.

The ST1000(CL65) has 5x optical inner zoom, 12.2M pixels, and Schneider VARIOPLAN lens. This is like other recent compact digital cameras, but the ST1000(CL65) supports a lot of other new functions.

Easier sharing with wireless Network.

The first thing I want to talk about is wireless networking functions.

So far, in order to deliver files to other, we needed to connect a cable to a digital camera, copy files to a computer, and send them to file sharing site. It’s a long procedure, (We might feel it’s inevitable.) You don’t need to do them with the ST1000(CL65).

If you can find AP allowing you wireless Internet, you can send files to your mail address or web sites such as Picasa with the wireless network function of the ST1000(CL65). Now it supports Picasa, Facebook, YouTube, and Samsung Imaging, and others will be added later.

I tested with egg which changes Wibro to WiFi, and it was easier than I thought. When it comes to sending mails, you can just connect to AP, select sending a mail, and the address. You don’t need to insert your email address, because default address will be inserted.

You can just drag pictures with your finger using Haptic UI. Everything is done by selecting and sending.

Pictures I sent arrived without problems in the mail address.

Not just email. It supports Bluetooth function, so if you want, you can easily send pictures to a mobile phone or something.

It was simple to use the Bluetooth function. I needed to find Bluetooth devices, select devices, insert password, and select pictures.

I couldn’t check, because I had no device to support DLNA. However, If you have DLNA supporting devices like Samsung TV, please try it.

Like I introduced, transferring pictures wasn’t included in digital cameras from domestic producers. Maybe Bluetooth? However, people start to share more pictures through web sites due to mini-hompi or SNS, so I think there will be more digital camera supporting sharing functions.

GPS little bit insufficient.

The ST1000(CL65) supports Geo-Tagging remembering places by GPS. Taking pictures with GPS information, the location of the picture is recorded and you can sort files by the locations later. But the receiving rate of GPS wasn’t that good, I think. It’s because I was in a building. However, when I was outdoors, sometimes it failed to receive the information in Seoul.

Therefore, I thought it was because it’s a sample product, but at SinDuri-sea in Tae-An, GPS and Geo-Tagging worked well! I think because I took shots in buildings in Seoul, it couldn’t get GPS signals well, but anyway the receiving sensitivity has to be better. I hope it was because I tested with a test sample.

3.5” Full Touch LCD

3.5” Full touch LCD screen which is another feature of the ST1000(CL65) was good. The back is filled with, and on the LCD, it has a lot of things such as new controls and UI. All options such Smart Auto, Video, Scene mode, and Program mode can be controlled from the LCD.

Using a built-in sensor, you can change shot modes by tilting the body. Of course, before get used to it, it’s a little inconvenient or confusing, but once we become accustomed, it’s so convenient. I couldn’t make a conclusion, because I only used this for a shot period time, but one thing for sure is that they consider the users’ convenience a lot through this new technology.

Workshop story with the ST1000(CL65)

Lastly, I’d like to talk about the workshop which is rather irrelevant to a review. I just want to share the experience of the sea in a late summer. It’s a beach in Tae-An.

Through East-sea bridge…

Stockists Magazine: Samsung PL55, R10

I found a nice page showing Samsung's R1o camcorder and PL51 digital camera in the Stockists magazine. It is quite impressive. Here is the sanned page for your reference.

Samsung HMX-U10 First Look

Here is the first look of Samsung U1p camcorder product review from InfoSync.

The Samsung HMX-U10 looks like a Flip while the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 appear to be clones of the Sony HDR-CX12. Read the full article to see how they differ.

Anything we haven't seen before?

With all of the celebrity deaths and Northeast monsoons, it's difficult for us to even know what season it is, but
Samsung has rolled out three new camcorders to kick off the Summer. That's right, this is the time of year manufacturers start sneaking new models into the fray, and what are we seeing from Samsung? Well, it appears as though Samsung has finally revealed their take on the ultra-portable Flip MinoHD and announced two standard-definition camcorders that are dead ringers for a few generations of Sony models we've seen throughout the past couple years.

The Samsung HMX-U10 is Samsung's answer to the
Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD cam while the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 are, well, clones of the Sony HDR-CX12, just without the HD capability. Well, not the Full HD capability because both new Samsung models can upconvert to HD, but we'll get to that in a minute. So, Samsung is just dipping their toes in a giant market pioneered by Flip and stealing the blueprint thunder from Sony? Read on and we'll tell you what sets Samsung's new models apart.

Worth Flipping over?

We'll start with the Samsung HMX-U10 because ultra-portable is all the rage, especially when it's HD. This frightens us. Anyone can make an HD camcorder, and there are oodles of bogus HD models out there just peering at unsuspecting consumers from the fluorescent confines of a grey market electronics store display case. We know that Samsung can produce the imaging goods, so we're hoping that the camcorder's 1/2.3-inch CMOS will get the job done. The pocket-sized Samsung HMX-U10 also flaunts the ability to capture 10-megapixel stills and features a two-inch LCD. We get 1920 x 1080 Full HD recording in the H.264 format, so files will play nicely with a computer.

But the Samsung HMX-U10 also offers a YouTube upload mode, and frankly, no ultra compact camcorder would want to be seen without a YouTube mode these days. Unfortunately, the lens has a fixed focus, so it looks like extreme close-ups and views from an airplane will not suffice. We're digging the seven-degree angled grip, and the control panel looks promising.

We'll get separate Video and Photo buttons and it looks like the Samsung HMX-U10 will have a more advanced menu system than its competitors. There's no word on the optical zoom, but we're thinking there might be a reason Samsung didn't even bother to mention it.

The Samsung HMX-U10 will be juiced by a Lithium Ion battery, rechargeable via USB or AC adapter. SDHC cards will supply the memory, and the Samsung HMX-U10 is expected to ship in September for $200.

Now what's all this upconversion hullabaloo?

The Samsung SMX-K45 (gallery) and Samsung SMX-K40 (gallery) record 720 x 480 standard-definition video that can be played back on an HDTV in "near Full HD" quality, whatever that means. Basically, Samsung slapped an HDMI terminal on each model and granted them the ability to stream their standard-definition video clips to the big screen, so we're pretty sure we'll see some kind of quality leap.

However, we will remain skeptical until Samsung sends us our HMX-K45 or HMX-K40 review units. Both models will feature 52x optical zooms with Intelli-Zoom technology that enables the camcorders to reach a 65x magnification without plunging into the horrors of a digital zoom. We're almost certain the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 will sacrifice pixels around the recorded frame in order to pull off the extra distance, much like Canon's Advanced Zoom.

Both models will receive Samsung's latest Optical Image Stabilizer and Schneider KREUZNACH lenses. Like the newly announced
Samsung HMX-C14, the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 will feature built-in intelli-studio software that allows shooters to connect to a computer to play and edit their video without having to install software externally. We also get the nifty animated thumbnail feature that cycles a series of thumbnails that correspond to a particular video clip in order for shooters to get a sneak preview before wasting their time on 30 minutes of an accidental recording of a pocket. Like the Samsung HMX-U10, the Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 will feature Samsung's versatile battery charging system.

Both models will have 2.7-inch LCDs and time-lapse recording capability, though the Samsung SMX-K45 boasts a 32GB SSD and SDHC card recording while the Samsung SMX-K40 records solely to SDHC cards. The Samsung SMX-K45 and Samsung SMX-K40 are set to ship in August for $500 and $330, respectively.

Samsung DualView Cameras: TL225 and TL220 SPECIFICATIONS

Dual LCD Displays
Samsung DualView Cameras provide the easiest way to take the perfect self-portrait every time with Dual LCDs. On the front of the cameras is a 1.5” LCD that shows you what the picture will look like, so you can now be a subject of the picture, as well as the photographer. Key features of the Dual LCDs include:

· When the camera is turned on, activate the front LCD by tapping the screen. It will automatically be set in Self-Portrait mode, ensuring that the user will always be framed exactly the way they want. You can also turn on the front LCD with a simple selection through the intuitive interface. When in Self-Portrait mode, the camera will also engage its smile detection technology, automatically taking a photo when it recognizes a smile.

· In Child Mode, the front LCD plays a fun animation to capture a child’s attention while taking their photo.

· Shutter Info ensures you take a photo of your subject while they’re smiling. When using Shutter Info, the front LCD will display a “smiley face” when the photographer has the shutter button pushed halfway down, giving the subject a signal that you’re ready to take the photo.

· Function Info helps you keep track of what flash and macro value you’re currently using, as the front LCD provides a visual readout of key camera settings.

· When taking a group photo using the Self-Timer, the front LCD will show a preview of the shot as well as a visual countdown timer so that everyone knows exactly when the photo will be snapped.

Smart Gesture User Interface (UI)

When it comes to smart, user-friendly features, the TL225 and TL220 lead the way. Take for example the cameras’ innovative Smart Gesture UI with built-in Gravity sensor, which lets you quickly access and use key features with either a simple tilt or a hand gesture. To turn on the front LCD, simply tap the screen to activate the display automatically and immediately.

Using other advanced features is just as simple. With the Smart Gesture UI you can quickly scroll through your photos by slightly tilting the device in either direction or by selecting the appropriate photos for a slide show. You can also easily delete photos from your library using the Smart Gesture UI by marking an “X” on the screen using your finger, or you can simply save your favorite photos into a separate folder. Additionally, if you want to rotate an image, you can draw a circle (O) on the screen, and if you want to see the next image in your library you can drag it on to the screen with a sweep of your finger or by simply tilting the device.

3.5” Wide Touch-Screen Back LCD
With 1,152K resolution, the 3.5” wide touch-screen LCD located on the back of the TL225 offers some of the sharpest images of any camera available today, delivering almost four times more resolution than traditional displays. Unlike other digital cameras, the LCD touch-screen uses Samsung’s unique haptic technology, providing users with a slight vibration and audible beep whenever they select an option within the touch-screen display.

12.2 Mega-Pixel CCD, 27mm Wide-Angle Lens with 4.6x Optical Zoom
Samsung DualView Cameras come fully equipped with a true color-filtered 12.2 mega-pixel CCD and boast a powerful 4.6x optical zoom, providing sharp and detailed images. Whether you’re indoors or out, shooting a landscape or friends around a table, the 27mm-wide angle lens plus 4.6x optical zoom gives you a wider shooting range from a shorter distance, delivering greater flexibility than traditional 35mm lenses. Capture images of beautiful landscapes, entire wedding parties, and skyscrapers without having to back up to get the shot. The precisely cut, high‑quality 27mm optical lens from Schneider-KREUZNACH delivers clear, clean images with balanced resolution from the center to the edges. Each lens surface is multi-coated to minimize ghosting or flaring for a great shot every time.

Advanced Dual Image Stabilization (IS)
Samsung’s Advanced Dual Image Stabilization (IS) technology allows you to capture crystal‑clear, blur-free images. The TL225’s and TL220’s true Dual IS combines both Optical and Digital Image stabilizers to produce sharp images without the confusion commonly found in other cameras. The Optical IS intelligently compensates for hand trembling by shifting the lens in the opposite direction. When Optical IS isn’t quite enough, the Digital IS automatically takes over to ensure blur-free images.

HD Video Recording
Besides the ability to take high-quality digital still images, Samsung DualView Cameras also offer impressive 720P HD video recording at 30 frames per second. The TL225 and TL220 use the H.264 format which allows you to record twice as much content as MPEG4, and four times more than MJPEG, the format typically used in other digital cameras. The TL225 also offers HDMI connectivity (adapter sold separately) so that you can enjoy your HD video, as well as digital still images, on an HDTV or HD monitor.

Smart Auto
Samsung’s Smart Auto feature ensures that users never have to worry about their photos being washed out, too dark or out of focus. Smart Auto analyzes key elements of your composition such as color, brightness, motion and subject and then selects the appropriate scene mode which will produce the best results possible.
Smart Album
With Samsung’s convenient Smart Album feature, you can quickly scroll through your entire library of images and organize them in the way that’s best for you. This unique feature allows you to organize photos by Favorite (if tagged as a “favorite” photo), Face (someone you’ve taken many photos of), Timeline (date photos were taken), Week, Color, and Content (photos, videos, voice-note).

Perfect Portrait System
Picture-perfect moments at their best
Samsung’s Perfect Portrait System takes the guess work out of shooting beautiful portraits. Key features of this system are Samsung’s Smile Shot and Blink Detection technologies which automatically detect when your subjects are smiling and if their eyes are closed, allowing you to capture them looking their best. Another advanced feature is the Red-eye Fix mode. This in‑camera feature automatically fixes the typical red-eye associated with the use of the flash, before the photo is produced, a significant time saver as you don’t have to spend time afterwards removing red-eyes from your photos.

Smart Touch Shooting and Auto-Focus
Sometimes the focal point of your picture is not always in the center of the frame. In cases like this, the TL225’s and TL220’s Smart Touch Auto Focus feature allows you to focus on a different part of the shot by simply touching the desired area. That means your subject, no matter where in the frame it may be, will always be in focus. Once you’ve selected the focal point, you can simply leave your finger on the screen for two seconds or push the shutter button to take the picture.

Smart Face Recognition
The TL225 and TL220 feature Samsung’s advanced Face Recognition technology which automatically stores up to 20 preferred faces to the cameras’ internal memory. While taking a portrait, the TL225 and TL220 will automatically recognize if one of the user’s preferred faces is in the frame and identify them as a priority for focus and exposure. Users can also save time sorting through their photos by searching only for those that contain a specific face.

Beauty Shot
Samsung’s Beauty Shot feature lets you remove all the imperfections on your subject’s face such as wrinkles, blemishes, and moles. Simply select one of two editing options to even out skin tone and complexion.

Various functions, ultra wide angle lens, ultra slim design, etc. They were good, but I was wondering I really needed them. After buying a high level expensive camera, we actually didn’t use all of the functions of the camera a lot of times. Just expensive cameras mean nothing. Normally, we just take a picture for fun with it. Considering a practical camera to take a life, an auto compact camera like the PL series from Samsung is the best. Just by pushing the shutter, the PL55 takes a great picture and it fulfills the needs of customers properly.

Interesting functions, easy control, and great quality

Holding the PL55 for a day, the camera makes me have a question like “Do I need a more expensive camera?”. Everything such as Smart Auto, Perfect Portrait, and various additional functions is great enough. For my parents, a trip with friends, a diary, it’s so nice. The PL55 following the PL50 has a stronger optical 5x zoom lens and all the additional functions of Samsung cameras with a simple interface and satisfactory results. It will be a popular model in 2009.

Vivid image and optical 5x zoom lens

The biggest change is the optical 5x zoom lens. Recently, cameras supports optical 5x zoom rather than optical 3x zoom. As it says, zooming is quite important when taking shots outdoors. 24.5mm of thickness which is not that slim is because of the lens. Actually, the image quality is quite great from wide to telephoto angle, and the slightly thick body provides a better grip. However, I don’t like that there’s no OIS.

Maximum Wide angle

                                                          100% cropped original

Optical 3x zoom

Optical 5x zoom maximum telephoto angle

                                                          100% cropped original

Maximum telephoto angle + Digital zoom

The F value is rather large in wide angle, and Macro mode is 10cm according to the specification, but the actual Macro was better than that.

Great Grip, Strong and colorful metal design

A little thick and circular appearance is familiar and comfortable. The strong metal design gives more luxurious feeling. By adding a little volume on the front grip, the grip becomes more stable. AF and built-in flash are located on the front top and a microphone is below. The combination of a black barrel and body color looks so elegant. It comes with silver, blue, red, and black colors. I think men will prefer black and silver, while women like red and blue.

The design of the top is accented by black lines and slightly dented, so when your thumb is on a button, you feel comfortable. From the left side, a power button, speaker, and shutter button are located.

Intelligent 6.86cm(2.7”) 230K pixels LCD

The LCD is a recent standard 6.86cm (2.7”) 230K pixels for compact digital cameras. It has smooth frames and vivid quality. Viewing angle from left, right, and down side is great, a shot with various angels is possible. The color is cool. Even though there’s some rough noise on very dark spots, the overall quality is really good. Brightness can be set to Auto, dark, normal, and bright, but the Auto spends a little more battery. However, there’s no histogram or 3 division guide lines.

Lever type zoom button, Mode dial, and other buttons are ideally arranged. Mode dial consists of Smart Auto, Beauty shot, and Advanced DIS mode making up the absence of OIS.

Samsung Targets Flip With New Pocket Camcorder

The About.com posted a review about Samsung U10 full HD compact camcorder.

There are “Flip killers” and then there Flip killers. And Samsung is definitely aiming at the latter with its new HMX-U10 camcorder. It borrows heavily from the Flip’s upright, boxy design, but with a curvy twist. And unlike the Flip Ultra HD, the HMX-U10 records 1920 x 1080 HD video, not the lower quality 720P found in the UltraHD. It also snaps 10-megapixel still photos, sports a 2-inch LCD, and at $199 it costs the same as the Flip UltraHD. Look for it in September.

Samsung also revealed details on two new standard definition models with very powerful 52x optical zoom lenses: the SMX-K40 and SMX-K45. They record 720 x 480 standard resolution which can be “upscaled” when the camcorders are connected to an HDTV with an optional HDMI cable. The K45 ($499) packs 32GB of internal flash memory while the K40 ($329) records directly to SD/SDHC memory cards. These models are due in stores in August.

Samsung HMX-H106 Camcorder Review

The About.Com posted a review about Samsung H106 full HD camcorder.

The $899 HMX-H106 has three close cousins: the HMX-H105,the HMX-H104 and the H100. All four models are essentially identical; they have the same video resolution, image sensor and zoom lens. The main difference is internal memory, which impacts how many hours of footage they can store. The H105 ($729) features a 32GB SSD, the H104 ($649) offers a 16GB SSD and the H100 ($579) does not offer internal memory and instead records directly to SD/SDHC memory cards.

If you like what you see in the H106 but want to save a few dollars by lowering the amount of footage it can store on internal memory, consider one of its lower-priced siblings. You can also boost the memory with an optional SD/SDHC memory card.

Samsung H106: The Good

Design

While no one should buy a camcorder simply because it looks good, it bears mentioning that the H106 looks pretty darn good. It’s a beautiful camcorder (there is such a thing), sharply styled with a gun metal gray housing and black accents.

But the design has more to recommend it than stylish looks. Unlike competitive models in its class, Samsung’s camcorder has buttons that can be safely pressed by people with larger fingers, instead of tiny buttons that are trickier to access. It also features a rotating grip, for getting those hard-to-reach angles. Two very nice touches and at 14.2 ounces with battery and memory card, it's light enough to carry around for hours.

Video Quality

The H106's LCD swivels for self portraits. Photo courtesy Samsung.

With 1920 x 1080 video recording in the H.264 format, the H106 offers generally excellent video quality for a model in its class. Indoors, in lower light, the H106 held up well, with only the occasional grain showing through. You can compensate for more challenging shooting environments by using one of the pre-set scene modes.

Controls

The H106 gives you manual control over shutter speed, iris, white balance and exposure. These are a must in a camera at this price range, as they let you fine tune the look of your video. Accessing these controls is done via the 2.7-inch touch-screen LCD and not through a manual ring as is typical in many higher-end camcorders. For most of the manual settings, that's not a problem, but it does make manual focusing difficult, particularly when you're trying to focus while filming.

The H106, like Panasonic’s HDC-TM300K, features touch-focusing. When activated, you can touch the LCD screen and make that point in the scene the focal point. This worked quite well, as the H106's touch screen is very responsive.

If you're not interested in digging around the menu, there's a useful "Easy Q" mode which will disable most of the H106's functions to simplify operation.

Capacity

The H106 uses a solid state flash memory drive to store camcorder footage. With 64GB, you can hold a little over eight hours of footage at the highest quality setting. You can boost this by using an optional SD/SDHC memory card. For flash memory camcorders, 64GB worth of internal memory for $899 is a very good bargain.

HMX-H106: The Bad

The HMX-H106’s biggest liability was its autofocus. Indoors, the camcorder could occasionally be slow to lock focus. This was particularly problematic when snapping photographs in still photo mode. Some were indecipherable blurs.

While the H106 boasts of taking 4.6-megapixel still photos, it only has a 2.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor, which means it uses interpolation to hit the 4-megapixel mark. The photos aren't bad, per-se, but they're nothing you'll want to print and hang over the mantle. The H106 does offer a built-in flash, but no hot shoe accessory, which is something you'd typically find in higher-priced camcorders.

The H106 also does not have a viewfinder. You’ll be using the 2.7-inch LCD screen for composing all your video. Personally, I don’t mind losing the viewfinder but others may prefer having one.

Style Shooter

The HMX-H106 is one stylish and intuitively designed camcorder. For its price, it packs on a generous assortment of features and delivers quality video recording. You may encounter some slower than average focusing and the photos are nothing to write home about, but the overall package is a solid contender in the HD camcorder market.

Samsung HMX-H106 Camcorder - 1080i - 2.2 MP - 10 x optical zoom

The Google Product posted a review about Samsung H106 full HD camcorder.

Samsung's H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders set a new standard for style and performance. The HMX-H106, Samsung's new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, is the world's first to feature an internal 64GB SSD (as of January 5, 2009).

Samsung's renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory. Samsung's SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability.

No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations. Additionally, Samsung's SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds which is required for the amount of data recorded in full-HD resolution. When actively reading and writing data, Samsung's SSD technology consumes approximately 1/8th of the power of a comparable HDD (estimated value with 3GB/second, 2.5 inch HDD, 5400 RPM).The HMX-H105 and HMX-H104 offer 32GB and 16GB SSDs, respectively, and like the HMX-H106, also allow consumers to expand memory capacity using an SD/SDHC memory card. The HMX‑H100 does not feature an internal SSD and requires the use of a SD/SDHC memory card. The new H-Series full-HD digital camcorders also utilize H.264 compression, which significantly increases recording time.

Opening the new world, Samsung Digital Imaging, ST1000(CL65)

Here is a user review about Samsung ST1000 GPS digital camera.

On the top of the product, an antenna for GPS, Status lamp, Zoom, Power, and Shutter buttons are located.

The wireless networking capacity of the ST1000(CL65) is the top level, I think. Touching the icon on the right below, you can set various network options.

You can use User setting typing your email address and name, and through the AP (Access Point) setting, you can search and register instruments which support wireless communication, and by setting WPS which is one of the security standards of wireless communication, you can use it safely.

Through DLNA(Digital Living Network Alliance) sharing contents by connecting to HDTV or Projectors, you can share up to 1000 images in original size or up to 2MB size.

You can post up images on a blog and leave a comment using a touch keyboard showing up when in user setting. However, when using it only with Mac address, some functions couldn’t find AP. Therefore, I recommend you use the wireless internet only in free AP regions.

Sharing images is also supported with the ST1000(CL65). Using Blutooth 2.0, you can transfer images to a cell phone or MP3 players, or through Wi-Fi and DLNA, you can easily share your images.

Finding Myself with the GPS, Samsung Digital Imaging ST1000(CL65)

High completion Convergence Compact digital camera

A new digital camera comes up like the expression Technology makes convergence, and the convergence makes the best. The ST1000(CL65) recently released from Samsung Digital Imaging is that. It has the GPS to display the location of users. This can transfer photos on the web through WiFi and to devices supporting Bluetooth. In addition, the ST1000(CL65) has a lot of more convenient functions. Let’s take a look at the new unique digital camera.

When holding the camera, it’s kind of heavy. It might be because of the metal on the front, but I think it’s because of the 156g of weight (Except battery and memory), and it’s caused by GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth modules. The size is 99.8×60.8×18.9mm.

Finding a quality camera for under $300

The USA Today posted an article about digital cameras inlcuding Samsung TL220.

Before you know it, the holidays will be here. There'll be plenty of memories you'll want to capture. Fortunately, you don't need to spend a fortune on a new camera. These days, you get a lot of camera for $200 to $300.

For years, manufacturers touted megapixels. Megapixels were equated with camera quality; more was considered better. What megapixels really means is image size. With more megapixels, you can make bigger enlargements.

Many cameras in the $200 to $300 range boast 10-megapixel or larger sensors. That's all you probably need. You'll get excellent 8x10-inch prints. But, you should even get quality 13x19-inch enlargements.

TECH TIPS: Ask Kim
Instead of megapixels, look for features that will improve your photos. Optical image stabilization is a must. You'll get better low-light and telephoto pictures.

Casual photographers will want plenty of scene modes. Scene modes automatically optimize the camera's settings for the situation. For example, look for portrait, sports, macro and landscape modes.

Enthusiasts will want manual controls. You can specify the settings you want. You'll have fun experimenting with your photography.

Here are four great cameras in the $200 to $300 range:
Panasonic Lumix ZR1

Panasonic's Lumix ZR1 ($280) is a 12-megapixel compact camera. The 8x zoom lets you get close to distant subjects. It also has a 2.7-inch LCD screen but is still small enough to slip in your pocket.

The ZR1 offers optical image stabilization. And, there are plenty of scene modes. There's even Intelligent Auto (iA) Mode. It automatically detects the best settings for any situation.

The ZR1 shoots HD (720p) video to an SD card. And, there's even a special travel mode. It organizes slide shows based on when and where photos were taken.
This camera is ideal for casual shooters. But, more advanced photographers will miss manual controls.

Canon PowerShot SX120 IS

Canon's PowerShot SX120 IS ($250) is heavier and bulkier than the ZR1. But, this 10-megapixel shooter features a 10x zoom and a 3-inch display.

You get plenty of scene modes. The Easy Mode optimizes settings for you. Or, set controls manually. This versatility makes it ideal for both beginners and enthusiasts.

There's optical image stabilization and motion detection to help eliminate blur. And face detection makes sure you get perfect skin tones.
The SX120 IS records video in standard definition. Clips can be up to one hour long or 4 gigabytes.

Samsung TL220

The Samsung TL220 ($300) is a 12-megapixel compact camera. It features a 5x zoom lens.

The TL220's real draw is the display. Scroll through menus and photos on the 3-inch rear touch screen.

There's also a 1.5-inch front-mounted display. You can check the composition of your photo — and still be in the picture. Or, display included animation to make a child smile.
You'll also get image stabilization and a bevy of scene modes. Included is Smart Auto for optimizing the settings in any situation. There's also HD (720p) video recording.

Enthusiasts will prefer a camera with more manual options.

Sony Cyber-shot H20

The Sony Cyber-shot H20 ($280) is a 10-megapixel high-zoom. It has a 10x zoom lens.
Compose and review your shots on the 3-inch display.

Optical image stabilization will eliminate blurred photos. And the H20 has plenty of modes.
The Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode automatically senses the conditions and optimizes the settings. Easy Shooting Mode makes it easy for beginners to use the camera. Or use manual mode to specify your settings.

Face detection optimizes settings for up to eight faces. Smile Shutter snaps a photo when the subject smiles. There's even the Anti-blink function that will help you capture shots without blinking or squinting

The H20 will capture high-definition (720p) video with stereo audio.

The CNET Asia has posted an article about digital cameras including Samsung's ST50.

There is something about slim shooters which always captures our attention. Perhaps it's the combination of stylish aesthetics and petite footprint. But the biggest advantage of such snappers is that they are extremely portable and can slip into your pocket without leaving a bulge. Hence, you can bring your point-and-shoot wherever you go and not worry that you'll miss a shot. One thing to note is that most of these cameras have a limited zoom range of 3x, but this is a small tradeoff for portability. Also, since the target audience of such shooters is the young and trendy crowd, they probably won't mind the zoom limitation.

Here are five slim cameras which not only look good, but boast a variety of advanced functions that can satisfy most shutterbugs.

Click here for a feature comparison table.

1. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX1

First take
For sleek and stylish cameras, the Sony Cyber-shot T series is one of the top choices in the market. Today, the Japanese electronics giant introduces a more powerful sub-category to this family of shooters. The 10.2-megapixel TX1 retains the same, slim profile of its siblings such as the T90, but this new model has a couple of nifty features which makes taking good pictures an easier task. Also, Sony used a new sensor, the Exmor R (first seen on the superzoom HX1), which claims to be twice as sensitive to light. How did it fare? Here are our early impressions.

2. Canon Digital Ixus 100 IS

CNET Asia rating: 7.2 out of 10

The good: Sleek styling; HD video function; decent image quality and performance.

The bad: Lacks wide-angle optics; small form factor may not go down well with users having larger hands.

The bottom line: This petite powerhouse is Canon's smallest ever Ixus camera and its stylish looks should resonate with those who want a capable and tiny point-and-shoot.

Dimensions: 87.0 x 54.5 x 18.4mm

3. Samsung ST50

CNET Asia rating: 7 out of 10

The good: Sleek and stylish outlook; improved performance; Beauty Shot mode.

The bad: Basic shooting functions; slightly below-average image quality.

The bottom line: The ST50 is a good-looking camera let down by its image quality. What's noteworthy is that Samsung has improved the performance of the shooter, making it slightly more intuitive to use than earlier models.
