Samsung's ultraslim ST45 digital camera is sadly devoid of clowns

Engadget.com posted a review about Samsung ST45 digital camera.

We'll be honest -- we were hoping that from now on Samsung would be including creepy clown displays on the front of all their 12.2 megapixel shooters. If for some strange reason you're not into that idea, however, the ST45 should be right up your alley. A pretty noteworthy 16mm thin, this guy features an ISO sensitivity up to 3200, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, and all the goodies you expect from Samsung: Smart Scene Recognition with 11 (count 'em!) picture settings (Portrait, Night portrait, Macro, etc.), Digital Image Stabilization, Self Portrait & Frame Guide (for all those double-chin masking MySpace one-handed self-pics), and the obligatory Face Detection. This bad boy will be available in the UK in red, black, blue, or grey, sometime late this month. PR after the break.

Samsung Announces Ultra Slim and Ultra Light Digital Compact Camera

Samsung, leaders in innovation and digital imaging, is pleased to announce the launch of the 16mm ultra slim ST45. The aluminium ST45 combines innovative technology and user-friendly features to deliver optimum image quality in a light and stylish package.

Smart Auto – Scene Recognition

The 12 mega pixel ST45 features a 2.7" QVGA (230K) TFT LCD screen and Samsung's new "Smart Scene Recognition" technology. "Smart Scene Recognition" has 11 optimized picture pre-settings such as Portrait, Night portrait, Macro, Macro Colour, helping people take the perfect shot regardless of the conditions. You can also use these settings when sorting through your photos - making it quick and easy to find all the portrait, outdoor or macro images you've taken.

Digital Image Stabilisation/Self Portrait & Frame Guide

The ST45 offers Digital Image Stabilisation helping you get great sharp images without blurring. A highly sensitive ISO 3200 and Samsung's Self Portrait & Frame Guide are included within the ultra slim and light ST45 alongside a host of other advanced features. The Frame Guide means you no longer need to rely on the technological capabilities of strangers for those perfect holiday snaps. When you use the setting, the camera takes a ghost picture of your desired shot and displays a template when you pass the camera over to someone else - ensuring they always take the picture you want them to take once you're in it.

Face Detection

"Face Detection" locates the subject's face within the frame and automatically adjusts auto focus and auto exposure to ensure better composition and image quality for portraits; in "Blink Detection Mode" the camera will take a series of shots when closed eyes are detected so everyone is captured with their eyes open; in "Smile Mode" a picture is automatically taken when smiles are detected and, in "Beauty Shot" mode, facial skin is retouched for a brighter and smoother skin tone.

Smart Album – Digital Contents Management

The ST45 features a new "Smart Album" Digital Contents Management system; a contents management program within the camera itself that significantly reduces the time it takes to find a photo - so it's quick and easy to store and manage your picture collection. The clever navigation program automatically organises your shots based on the date they were taken, their contents, colour or themes.

"Samsung is delighted to strengthen its range of compact cameras with the launch of the sophisticated ST45. Our cameras set the benchmark for quality and innovation and with the launch of the ST45 all photographers will enjoy taking high quality images" said Steve Mitchell, General Manager Marketing, Samsung Digital Imaging Division.

The ST45 is available in Red, Black, Blue and Grey. All colours will be available from leading high street and online retailers from late September 2009. Samsung Cameras include a one year warranty. Customers requiring further information should call 0845 726 7864 or visit samsungcamera.co.uk

Samsung ST45, because existing cameras aren't quite thin enough

T3.com posted a Samsung's ST45 digital camera article as follows.

Stylish little snapper that won't create an unsightly bulge

There's a sizeable 2.7" QVGA screen round the back of Samsung's ultra-thin new ST45 that offers image previews at an impressive resolution of 230,000 dots, with the camera also offering 11 'Smart Scene' auto modes to ensure your photos really don't turn out that bad at all. Digital image stabilisation negates any nervous jitters you may have acquired on life's horrible journey, with Samsung's "Frame Guide" letting snappers take a dummy shot and have that overlaid on the LCD as a guide, so someone else can take a photo of you to your precise specifications. That's the Facebook vanity feature. There's also a "Blink Detection Mode" that ensures everyone's eyes are always closed in every photo you take. No, hang on, it's the other way round. Open. It'll make sure their eyes are always open, by reaching out with a stick and pulling up their eyelids (or it'll take a series of pics when it senses someone's blinking). The ST45 will be out in Late September, in red, black, blue or grey. We have no price as yet.

Samsung HMX-H106 HD SSD Flash Memory Camcorder with 64 GB Memory and 10x Optical Zoom

Here is a product review for Samsung H106 camcorder.

Manufacturer's Description

The HMX-H106, Samsung’s new flagship full-HD digital camcorder, is the world’s first to feature an internal 64 GB SSD (as of January 5, 2009). The compact, lightweight Samsung HMX-H106 SSD camcorder takes video at the highest digital visual resolution available today, 1920 x 1080 Full HD. 1920 x 1080 Full HD video means much greater clarity, brightness and detail than ever before. It also means that your video will be an exact pixel-by-pixel match for today’s very best large screen HDTVs. The result is life-like video with more natural color and clarity, without the blurring or digital noise you might well be used to. Samsung’s H-Series of full-HD digital camcorders set a new standard for style and performance. Samsung’s renowned SSD technology offers a substantial advantage over the use of Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a digital camcorder, providing consumers with higher performing and more durable internal memory. Samsung’s SSD technology is more lightweight and compact, operates silently with very low heat emission, and features no moving parts, which significantly reduces overall power consumption and enhances reliability. No moving parts also make SSD technology more durable and resistant to shock and vibrations. Additionally, Samsung’s SSD technology is faster than HDD, including quicker boot-up and read/write speeds.

Samsung H106 Highlights

Samsung H-series camcorder highlights

4:3 recording, 6:9 output vs. 16:9 recording, 16:9 output
Progressive HD (1920 x 1080 Full HD)
Samsung’s HMX-H106 delivers the very highest quality video by using progressive scan technology. It records HD quality video in progressive mode (30fps), so that the video is crisp and clear, regardless of how fast the subject is moving. Progressive scan technology produces smooth images even when videos are played back at 2x, 4x or even 8x the normal speed!

37mm wide-angle lens (Schneider's Varioplan-HD lens)
A 37mm wide-angle lens, fitted to a camcorder, allows you to experience a new world of images. The world-class Schneider lens is specially designed to produce clear and vivid images by correcting chromatic aberration and distortion. Unlike other camcorders offering a typical angle of view of 40 - 50 mm, a wide angle view of 37mm provides wider and richer images from the same distance. Enjoy the world of dynamic, exceptional images brought to you by 37mm!

The wide angle view of 37mm delivers the big picture

Time Lapse Recording
By setting time intervals for frame capture, you can take full advantage of the Time Lapse Recording function. This feature uses selective frame capture to record over an extended period of time so that you can see the effects of long term recording condensed into a shorter time frame. Imagine seeing the slow passage of clouds through the sky or a sunset over the water in only a few minutes.

Time-lapse recording

Swivel Hand-Grip
Samsung’s unique Swivel Hand-Grip design makes shooting difficult angles a snap. With a flick of the wrist, you can change the shoot angle of the camcorder to take the perfect video every time-all with one hand! The ergonomic design will open new doors to the way you shoot video.

What's Solid State Drive (SSD)?

Samsung H-series camcorder highlights

SSD (Solid State Drive)

  • A data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store data forever.
  • Superior to Hard Drive Camcorders in speed, security, size, reliability, power consumption and noise emission.
  • With no moving parts, solid-state drives are silent and inherently less fragile than Hard Drives.
Super Storage

  • Larger flash capacities available
  • Compact and Light
SSD is 7 times smaller and 12 times lighter than 1.8-inch Hard Drive

Low Power Consumption
SSD requires approx. 8 times lower power consumption than a Hard Drive when reading or writing data. This means less energy consumption, and longer battery life.

Super Security

  • Samsung’s SSD has no moving parts, therefore is less fragile and more secure than Hard Drive Camcorders
  • Anti-shock and Vibration Memory camcorders keep recording despite shocks and vibrations long after competitors' camcorders stop.
  • Can repeat write and erase data more than a million times on SSD--4x more than Hard Drive
  • High capacity SSD provides longer use utilizing ‘Wear Leveling’ technology
  • Wear Leveling: a brand new technology arranging data so that erasures and re-writes are distributed evenly across the memory
  • Maximum life of SSD is 1 million hours, i.e. 134 years
Super Speed

  • Fast processing time and reliable data storage utilizing exclusive controller chipset
  • Boot up and access time of Samsung’s SSD camcorder is 3x faster than Hard Drives
  • Faster access time means managing your files is much easier
Works normally in extreme high or low temperatures

  • SSD camcorder continues to work even in extreme high/low temperatures
  • Hard Drive camcorders do not operate normally in low temperature below 14°F and in high temperature above 150°F
Reliability

  • Simple structure without any mechanical parts
  • Strong against shock and vibration
  • Life-long use
  • Reliable data storage
No noise, low heat emission

  • There is no acoustic noise and little heat emission when the SSD operates.
  • Elimination of noise, vibration and high temperature make for a much more comfortable recording experience.

How to select the right Samsung camera

CNET ASIA posted information about Samsung digital cameras.

You may not have known, but Samsung has been producing cameras since the early 1980s. The division was founded as an extension to Samsung Aerospace, and the Korean chaebol has been refining its imaging technology since. The design department has been working hard, too, and has delivered some of the most iconic profiles we've seen for a shooter.

The Digimax 101
Being an electronics giant, the company also produces its own components necessary for putting a point-and-shoot together. From the image sensor, LCD, image processor to the Lithium-ion battery, Samsung has its foot in most parts of the manufacturing process, thus ensuring quality control. This is unlike other brands, whose cameras may be fitted with parts from different manufacturers.

In 2002, we saw the Digimax 101 which featured a 1.3-megapixel sensor and 1.6-inch LCD display. Fast forward to today with the ST550 taking center stage, and we can see the company has gone a long way toward reengineering its cameras and reshaping the way consumers use them.

The ST550 and ST500 have an additional 1.5-inch LCD at the front.
Samsung has, however, stopped using the name Digimax for its digital cameras, and opted instead to label its point-and-shoots by their individual series. For shooters in the current lineup, there is no definite naming convention, so it doesn't mean a three-digit point-and-shoot is better than its double-digit counterpart (e.g. ST550 and ST1000).

The firm feels that consumers should have a holistic experience when using its cameras, which is why it incorporated non-traditional features such as dual LCDs into its recent shooters. Also, the Smart Touch interface was an interesting innovation when unveiled as it provided an alternative method of navigating menus never before seen.

If you've set your eyes on a Samsung point-and-shoot but not quite sure which one is suitable for you, we've put together a comprehensive guide for its lineup.

Article: Samsung ST550

Spiegel posted an article about Samsung ST550 and WB5000 digital camera after IFA show as follows:

On the way: Samsung's bag of digital goodies

ITWNew posted an article about Samsung digital cameras as follows:

SEVEN new digital cameras and three digital camcorders by Samsung Electronics will be landing here in the second half of this year.

Among the highlights: the ST550 and ST500 (picture), two compact 12.2-megapixel cameras that feature the novel concept of dual LCD screens. With one 1.5 inch LCD screen on the front and a second one on the back, it lets users easily compose shots while facing the camera.

The ST550 will be available end-August at $549, and the ST500 by end-September at $499. Prices include a 8GB microSD card. Upcoming camcorders include the SMX-K40 and SMX-K45, which record videos in standard definition at a resolution of 720x480 pixels but can upscale the footage to near full high-definition (HD) quality when viewed through a HDMI output on a HDTV. The K40 and K45 will be available from mid-September at $699 and $499 respectively.

Artical from Die Welt: Samsung's ST1000

Die Welt posted an article about Samsung ST1000 digital camera from IFA show.

Neue Funktionen

The story above is as follows:
There are compact cameras with new fetures. One of them is Samsung's ST1000 model which has Wi-Fi, Blutooth and GPS. The pictures taken can be transfered through Blutooth or HDMI. Also WLAN allows you to upload to U-Tube. Using the GPS feature, you can get the information about the location of the pictures taken.

Samsung offers 24x super zoom point-and-shoot HZ25W

The SlashGear.com posted a review about Samsung's HZ25W digital camera as follows:

I purchased a DSLR camera a long time ago because I was tired of my point-and-shoot not being fast enough with shutter speed to actually take a picture of my kids. My Nikon D80 is plenty fast, but I often miss the high zoom range I gave up for the D80 compared to the old camera I had.

samsunghz25w sb

Sure, you can get high levels of zoom on my D80, but those lenses can cost as much as I paid for the camera. Samsung unveiled a new point-and-shoot camera called the HZ25W that gives me zoom envy. The little camera offers a whopping 24x zoom lens with a 26mm wide-angle focal length.

The camera can also record 720p HD video, something else my D80 isn’t capable of doing. Video recorded with the HZ25W is in H.264 format. Other features of the camera include full manual controls and support for RAW images. Samsung uses both optical and digital image stabilization to reduce image blur. Samsung expects to ship the camera in October for $399.99.

Let’s make my family album with a Samsung camcorder K45

Here is a product reveiw for Samsung SMX-K45 digital camcorder.

Samsung camcorders have started with the pocket type camcorder VM-300 in 2007 with UCC boom, and the shooting type memory camcorder 480p MX10 and HD camcorder HMX10A were also known to us. Particularly, the success of the HMX20 in 2008 is so cool. This model has made Samsung camcorders more popular until 2009, and thanks to this model, following family camcorders could be released. In 2009, Samsung have been releasing a lot of products with a lot of concepts such as an album for children, easy recording, my diary, and family.

Active angle Full-HD camcorder R10, Capsule type small camcorder C10, Samsung has kind of threatened the No.1 Sony in camcorder with the Full HD H106 having the world’s first SSD memory and OIS. They start the second half of 2009 with the SSD memory camcorder SMX-K45 which converts SD to Full HD 1080p.

Converting SD to Full HD quality.

‘RECORD SD, PLAY Full HD Samsung K45 series

The SMX-K series is divided into the SMX-K45/K44/K40 by the internal memory. The K45 and K44 have 32 and 16GB SSD memory, while the K40 has no internal memory, but supports SD/SDHC memory. The biggest feature of the K45 series is the up-scaling from 480i to 1080p when watching in HDTV. Today’s model is the SMX-K45 having 32GB of SSD memory.

Optical 52x zoom and Intelli 65x zoom with OIS are remarkable. Intelli-Studio to upload videos on YouTube is included, and interval shot, 120 minutes of battery life, and various additional functions are supported with this charming camcorder.

The SSD memory which was applied for the first time to H series is very good for long time recording, low power consumption, compact, and stability. The most important feature is the up-scaling SD quality images to Full-HD quality images.

Samsung's NX camera due for late 2009 or early 2010, uses proprietary lens system

The Engadget.Com posted an article for Samsung NX series as follows.

Samsung has teased us like this before, stuffing the NX body under glass at tradeshows, letting it sit there being all DSLR-ey, but more details are beginning to trickle out about the camera here at IFA. As reported by PhotographyBLOG and confirmed to us on the show floor by Samsung, the camera is due to be launched by the end of the year or early next year. Like has been said before, the camera has an interchangeable lens systems, but Samsung also informed us specifically that the lenses will not be interoperable with other camera systems. In a way it makes sense, because the camera is much larger than a micro four thirds camera, but different in build than a regular DSLR -- though it houses a regular APS-C sensor. Still, it's a hassle, and we'll have to see if the blend of electronic viewfinder and regular-sized sensor offer a compelling enough alternative to embark upon a whole new lens system adventure.

Samsung WB5000: hands-on with a 24x zoom featherweight

The Engadget.Com posted Samsung WB5000 review as follows.

by Thomas Ricker posted Sep 6th 2009 at 3:12PM

When not concerned with the futility of existence we know what has your mind preoccupied: just how manly is Samsung's WB5000? With a 24x optical zoom, full manual control option, ISO 6400 sensitivity, and RAW format support it's just gotta be a heaving mass of elongating gadget hedonism, right? Well, no... at least not physically. Granted, our nerdceps are tuned to negate the shutter recoil of Nikon's beastly D300 DSLR. But the WB5000 feels surprisingly light, hollow even. Now the weight of a super-zoom camera, in general, has nothing to do with image quality. But the size to weight ratio was surprising nonetheless, and a stark reminder that the WB5000 is nothing more than a massive 26mm Schneider-KREUZNACH lens with compact-camera quality components inside its chunky posterior. We'll reserve judgment until we, or someone else, can grab a unit for a full review. 'Till then, you know where to find more pics.

Article: Samsung ST1000 Bluetooth Digital Camera

Following is an article from South China Post.

Moving pictures Samsung Electronics has packed its latest point-and-shoot digital camera, the ST1000 (pictured, top right), with Wi-fi, Bluetooth and Global Positioning System-assisted geo-tagging features to appeal to internet-savvy consumers. Wi-fi support allows for the e-mailing and uploading of snaps to Facebook, Flickr and other online networking sites without having to go through a personal computer. Bluetooth connection enables quick transfer of photos to other similarly enabled devices, such as mobile phones. Built-in GPS and geo-tagging helps pinpoint locations where photos are taken, data which can be used to organise photos on a computer or memory card. The ST1000 has a 3.5-inch touch screen, takes pictures at 12.2-megapixel resolution and comes in red, blue, black, silver and gold. The camera costs HK$3,290.

Music to your ears Sony's MDR-NC300D in-ear headphones (bottom right) come with digital noise-cancelling software that, the manufacturer claims, can effectively nullify 98.4 per cent of ambient noise. The headphones also have the company's proprietary S-Master digital amplifier program to reproduce music to a high quality. The attached mini control box is for adjusting frequency settings based on one of three music modes: movie, bass or normal. The MDR-NC300D headphones sell for HK$2,098.

In the frame Photographs taken on a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone or digital camera can be loaded straight into Philips' SPH8008 digital photo frame (left). Its dock doubles as a charging station for the eight-inch photo frame's built-in battery. Philips' RadiantColor technology displays smaller photos in the optimal 4:3 ratio by extending the colour on a photo's edges to the sides of the screen. Samsung intros drop-dead gorgeous SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 camcorders

We knew Samsung had a good thing going with the HMX-R10, and sure enough, that styling has rubbed off heavily on the company's newest pair. The SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 are both "ergonomic" camcorders which boast the company's Touch of Color finish and the practically iconic Active Angle Lens. Specs wise, we're told that they include a 10x optical zoomer, Hyper Image Stabilization (oxymoron much?) and a 230,000-dot, swiveling 2.7-inch wide LCD screen. Strangely (and inexcusably, really), Sammy failed to mention what resolution these capture at, so we could be looking at two 4K RED competitors or VGA shooters that can't even outdo those uninspiring offerings from DXG. At any rate, we're told that the C14 comes with 16GB of internal flash along with an SD / SDHC expansion slot, while the C10 gets by with just a slot. Finally, both units include one-touch YouTube uploads and just under three hours of life on a single charge; they'll splash down this July for undisclosed amounts.

Samsung's HMX-H106 Full HD camcorder with 64GB SSD takes first peek at retail

The Engadget.com posted Samsung H106 full HD camcorder as follows.

Here's one that might trigger an electrical pulse across the synapses, Samsung's HMX-H106. This tiny Full HD camcorder with a 64GB SSD tooling about its inanimate innards has been quietly preparing for May launch ever since its reveal back in January at CES. That's enough storage for an impressive 12 hours of 1920 x 1080 pixel video with further expansion by SD/SDHC card. Word has it that it launched this morning in its hometown Korea and is set for a May 22nd Stateside launch according Amazon.com. 900 bucks for a H.264 camcorder with an optical image stabilized Schneider Kreuznach Varioplan HD lens touting a 10x zoom and 37mm wide-angle focal length -- is that new baby worth it?
