Kontrakty Magazine Review: Samsung SC-MX20

Here is another famouse Ukranine magzine called Kontrakty.
The Kontrakty reviewed Samsung SC-MX20 very positively, saying that the MX20 features a powerful, world-renowned Schneider lens with 34x optical zoom and Samsung’s improved Hyper Digital Image Stabilization, which compensates for the images caused by hand-shaking for sharper footage.
Samsung's SC-MX20 is becoming well know worldwide even in Ukranine.

Afisha Magazine Award: Samsung SC-MX20

The Afisha magazine, a famous electronic magazine in Ukrain gave an award to Samsung's SC-MX20 digital camcorder, saing that Samsung’s MX-20 camcorder can record up to 4 hours of footage using an 8GB memory card, 8 hours using a 16GB memory card, and up to 16 hours using a 32GB card.

CrunchGear's Very Positive Review: Samsung SC-MX20 Digital Memory Camcorder

CrunchGear gave a very positive review for the Samsung SC-MX20 digital camcorder.

Here is the reveiw.

At $249, the Samsung SC-MX20 falls delicately between cheap flash-based camcorders and more expensive hard drive-based camcorders. It strips down some features that may not be necessary in the first place – high definition video, still photos, etc. – but adds something that most less expensive flash camcorders don’t have: an optical zoom. A big optical zoom, too, at 34x. That, coupled with long battery life, user-friendly codec support, and relatively low price make the SC-MX20 a winner.

Details and Specifications

The MX20 uses SD memory cards up to 32GB. There’s no on-board storage, but my review unit came packaged with a 1GB card, which is good for almost twenty minutes of video at the highest quality setting. The camcorder shoots up to 720×480 video at 29.97 frames per second using the MainConcept AVC/AAC H.264 codec (.MP4 files).
There are four quality modes: TV Super Fine, TV Fine, TV Normal, and a special YouTube-friendly Web & Mobile setting. Other settings include iScene (Sports, Portrait, Beach, Snow, High Speed, etc.), White Balance, Exposure (auto/manual), Face Detection, Anti-Shake, Digital Effects, 16:9 or 4:3 mode, Wind Cut, and stuff like that.

Pros
Battery life is good for around three hours on a single charge, which is a really nice touch for a camcorder that costs under $300. Also, video and audio quality are crisp and clear, the 34x optical zoom is outstanding, and the $249 price tag makes it seem like you’re getting a ton of value for what you’re paying.
The video codec that this camera uses is great, too, as it works right out of the gate with most popular editing software. Some cheaper camcorders use weird codecs that output video files that need to be converted before you’re able to edit them. That defeats the purpose of a grab-and-go camcorder. I’m able to directly edit the files that the MX20 creates with Sony Vegas – something I’ve been unable to do with JVC’s Everio series, for instance.

Cons
People who want to shoot high definition video or take still photos will want to look elsewhere, as the MX20 just handles straightforward 720×480 video. You’ll also probably want to supply your own large-capacity SD memory card if you don’t already have one. That’s not a deal-breaker by any means but it could add another $100 to your bottom line if you were to pick up, say, an 8GB SDHC card at retail.

Conclusion
The Samsung SC-MX20 is now my go-to camcorder. The size, quality, battery life, and low price make it hard to pass up. I can whole-heartedly recommend this camcorder if you’re looking for an inexpensive video camera that (unlike most other inexpensive

Article: Samsung Camcorders Posibility at Photokina 2008

There are Samsung camoders potentialities at Photokina 2008.

The Chosun Ilbo, one of the major newspaper posted the following article.

While DSLR cameras have video functions built-in, the mjor issue of the Photokina 2008 fair has been the video. Many major companies focused on the camcorder booth as well as digital cameras. And customers were interesed in the camcorder products as video related-products had been demended by users as time passed.

Specially, in case of Samsung booth, most users were interested in camcorder products a lot. This would be probably the dominet functions and its potential product line-ups of camcorders like full HD & SD level, slow motion, u-tube compatible, interval recordeing, and other powerful features.

While Samsung's competitors fucused on only demonstraion of camcorders, Samsung focused on various practical uses that Samsung camcorders could be connected with Internet wireless transfer, projector and HDTV.

At the test area in the middle of the Samsung booth, many participants are experiencing Samsung camcorders.

Simply, I was wondering what position in the world would take the Samsung camcorder. But I found at Photokina that Samsung camcorders had posibilities that could grow in the future as one of the best in the world. Good luck to Samsung camcorder!

Samsung Introduces “Seamless Experience” at IFA 2008

Shares Ambitious Plans to Bridge “Digital Divide,”
To help Consumers Enjoy Digital Benefits Anytime, Anywhere

Berlin, Germany, August 29, 2008 __ Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today unveiled ambitious plans to take the lead in developing products and technologies that help consumers from all walks of life be part of today’s digital benefits.

In an opening keynote address titled “Seamless Experience,” President Jongwoo Park highlighted Samsung’s leadership in consumer electronics industry and shared Samsung’s determination to develop products that not only surpass existing standards, but also help consumers who feel left behind catch up with the rapid pace of technological advances.

“’Seamless Experience’ is the new buzzword in our industry and we have not just embraced it, we’re leading it,” said Dr. Park, who heads the Digital Media Business at Samsung Electronics. “Consumers today have access to some the most advanced devices but many of them do not work well together and we’re on a mission to change that so consumers can fully enjoy the technological power of the devices anytime and anywhere.”

With “Seamless Experience” as its goal, Samsung also announced its 4C leadership initiative that will propel the company’s product development and marketing under four main concepts: Content & Service, Connectivity, Creativity, and Component.

Samsung’s 4C Leadership

Content & Service
New product offerings from Samsung Electronics go beyond pure technological advancement, as the company places new emphasis on value-added contents and services, such as the unique InfoLive function in the 7, 8 and 9 series TVs. InfoLive allows viewers access to streaming news, weather and stock info directly through the internet. The TVs are also shipped with a variety of professionally created content, such as an art gallery, cooking and yoga programs, and games for the kids.

The TVs also feature an updated and simplified user interface, which lets users connect quickly and easily to a powerful array of advanced features such as WISELINK Pro.
WISELINK Pro utilizes a fast USB 2.0 connection so users can connect their PC, camera, camcorder, or MP3 and then browse and view content directly on the TV screen. Also, the TV’s Smart Content Manager lets the user access and manage video, photo, music files using newly designed wheel key remote control.

Connectivity
Anynet + HDMI-CEC has been installed so that a single remote can control multiple AV devices, such as a home theater, Blu-ray player, camcorder, digital camera, and of course the TV itself. Many AV products shown at IFA, such as the HMX20 camcorder, NV100HD digital camera, and BD-P2500 5th Generation Blu-ray player, work in perfect harmony with Samsung TVs in terms of both design and connectivity.

Also, Series 7, 8, and 9 TVs are DLNA ready, so that with special software installed on the home PC, users can enjoy simultaneous viewing of downloaded or streamed content on multiple TVs throughout the house.

And finally, the BD-P2500 Blu-ray player can update to the latest Blu-ray profile easily through Ethernet or USB whenever a firmware upgrade is available online.

Creativity
Samsung places a premium on design, and there are many creative designs on display at IFA. One of those is the stunningly thin Series 8 TVs (40, 46 , and 52 inch) which measures just 44.5mm, or roughly half of previous products, and marks a dramatic reduction of 55% of the original width for a more sophisticated and intelligent design.

And in alliance with Giorgio Armani, Samsung has also released in Korea the Giorgio Armani Samsung TV, which adds elegance and warmth through the unique black color and premium wood reproduction in the frame.

Also, for TVs in the 7, 8, and 9 Series, Samsung has completely restyled its remote control to work more closely with the newly redesigned user interface. The key feature is a wheel-key that allows users to easily job through content and programming. 8, 9 Series TVs are also shipped with a unique, pebble shaped remote that adds to the style of the interior décor.

Component
Several industry leading, cutting edge products have been released at IFA, including a 200Hz LCD TV (40, 46, 52 inch) with Samsung Electronics’ advanced LCD technology, a 52 inch ultra slim LCD TV with a thickness of just one inch, a 3,840*2,160 resolution 82-inch QFHD (Quadruple full-high definition) TV, and a 31-inch OLED TV based on Samsung SDI’s OLED panel.

A further highlight in the TV lineup was the new Series 9 LCD TVs (46 and 55-inch) which has Smart LED technology and Samsung’s Ultra Clear Panel to express perfect blacks and ultimate contrast ratios. The unit’s special local dimming feature also dramatically reduces electricity consumption.

The NV100HD compact camera produces the sharpest pictures in its class, with 14.7 million pixels.

And the SyncMaster 2233HZ and 2243HZ monitors boast ultra-fast Motion Picture Response Time with enhanced MPA II that has been optimized for games and video. The new times have been reduced from 30ms to just 10ms.

What’s on Display from Samsung Electronics at the 2008 IFA

Series 7 - Technology for Pioneers
As Samsung's most compelling window yet into the future of TV technology, this new premium lineup shares the same material and crystal design innovation of series 6 while setting a new standard for media solutions and multimedia home entertainment.

Series 8 - Slimness Crystallized
The key upgrade of this stunning new Crystal Design TV is a startling 50% reduction in thickness, producing a slim and narrow bezel measuring just 44.5 mm.

Series 9 - Technology at Its Peak
This new series of Full HD LCD TVs incorporate Smart LED technology, provide the truest blacks and the highest contrasts available today and pack all of the latest technological innovations in picture quality, design, and advanced media solutions that define Samsung’s leadership in the Flat Panel TV industry.

TVs of the future
The lineup at the Samsung booth will include two (14.1” and 31”) organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TVs, the world’s slimmest 52” LCD TV, a quadruple full-HD LCD TV and a 200 Hz LCD TV.

BD-P2500 - Most Advanced Blu-ray Player
The new BD-P2500 provides a significant upgrade from previous models with an HQV processor and support for new HD audio formats (Dolby Digital+, Dolby True HD and DTS-HD HRA) with 7.1 channel output.

Enhanced MPA II - A New Monitor Technology
Samsung Electronics unveiled a new technology called Enhanced MPA II, which is designed to produce clearer images, in tandem with the company’s two new monitors. This technology has been developed to reduce so-called image-sticking effects, which are considered a weak point of LCD monitors

HMX20 - A New Flash Based 1080i/p HD Camcorder
Featuring Full HD 1080i / p(25frames -per-second) recording capability, the HMX20C’s flash-based design makes this camcorder compact and easy-to-use. This model comes with a proprietary docking station for charging and for connecting directly to an HDTV.

NV100HD __ The Ultimate HD Experience
Boasting an impressive resolution of 14.7 megapixels and renowned Schneider lens yielding a 28mm wide-angle focal length with 3.6x optical zoom, the NV100HD promises sharp, clear and detailed images with every shot. And this model also allows us to capture high-definition video at a resolution of 720P along with Dual Image Stabilization.

G-series __ A New Premium Refrigerators
The new premium G-series refrigerators offer an increased capacity of 637L and yet comes in counter depth size with a reduced footprint overall.

Small & Light S2
Samsung Yepp makes ‘music is my life’ their slogan, and with various line up they have high market share in the Global digital audio player market. They are not only releasing various products, but also distinguishable products by making design so attractive.

In the palm!
The new necklace type YP-S2 is very small and light digital audio player, so the expression ‘in the palm’ is not enough to explain the size. This is NON-DISPLAY without LCD, so the playing and selecting songs depend on the hand not eyes.

Escaping from heavy portable product.
Actually, the YP-S2 is not the first one of this type. S7, Mplayer by iRiver and iPod Shuffle by APPLE already have been released, and popular. We can listen to music and see videos with PMP, mini PMP, and even a cell phone, so this type of product only having music playing can be ignored. But when commuting and exercising, it’s really a burden with the heavy things. That’s why the demand of sub players has been increasing.

Also, one more merit is that it can be used as a moveable disk with the space, because now more users want the product having a music function, not just a USB memory stick even the expensive price.

Small but convenient YP-S2

The best thing of the YP-S2 is the portability with the size and weight. As an MP3 player, it is used outside more than inside. But if an MP3 player has an LCD or speaker, it gets bigger and heavier, so it is not what it was. However, the YP-S2 is 42 X 42 X 16mm, so small and slim, and because it’s only 17.2g, you cannot feel its weight even though hanging on your neck.

The type of mini products can be malfunctioned, because of the small control part. But the YP-S2 uses most of the back side, so it is easy to adjust even by big hand or less sight users. Up-down-left-right are used to control volume and play, and there’s a play-pause button in the center. And there’s a function key to set ‘normal/random play’ at the right-bottom side of the control part.

Elegant design and various colors
If it’s small and light with poor design, it’s not different from cheap products made in China. However, the YP-S2 has a pebble shape, smooth body line, and glossy color, so it’s kind of a fashion accessory. It’s something like reminding of expensive jewel, and it has black, red, white, green, and purple 5 colors to satisfy various users’ taste.

LED showing the status

The design of the YP-S2 is finished with the various colorful LED. This LED is changing its color by the status. It is blue in normal play, while it is blinking blue-green-pink in random. When recharging, it shows red LED, and when it’s done, it changes to green.

Enough 1GB

It is divided with 2 type 1GB and 2GB by the capacity. It can be small compared to recent other MP3 players, but it’s really hard to find a song like before 10 songs without the LCD, so about 200 songs(1GB/ 5MB files) are not small to me.

If the product with large capacity is released, it will become a so-so product, because of the high price and the difficulty of file management.

Own earphone for style.

This necklace type YP-S2 has a unique bundle earphone. It’s the necklace version of EP-370 used in the YP-T10 and YP-P2. The EP-370 is a well balanced product, and the bass is very impressive.

It is fixed firmly by plugging a 3.5pi earphone terminal to the body, so you don’t need to worry about the loss. But it is fixed again with the clip behind the terminal, so it’s totally safe even with hard and long movement.

High quality sound with DNSe 2.0

DNSe is the abbreviation of ‘Digital Natural Sound Engine’. It’s the Samsung’s own EQ having great performance compared to other brand’s unlike at the first time. The YP-S2 uses the upgraded DNSe 2.0, so you can enjoy music with your own taste.

When pushing the function button beside the FF and volume down button, you can feel the EQ change, and 3D EQ can be used with the normal EQ, so it gives feeling like in the center of big place with only the earphone.

Normal or Random

The biggest fun of the YP-S2 not having the LCD is the random playing function. It can evade the boredom with the repetition of the same list, and also you can feel the ecstasy when suddenly the song you want to listen to comes out. Pushing the function button changing the EQ longer, it changes the playing mode with beep sound, and the changed playing mode can be checked at the LED.

Supporting USB 2.0

Like I said before, the YP-S2 can be used not only as a music player, but also a moveable disk. But, if the transfer is slow, it’s neither good to use the function, nor as a music player, because it takes long time to change music files.

The YP-S2 can transfer files with the speed of USB 2.0. Instead of inconvenient cables, it can be used with a small gender, and it can be recharged by connecting it to a computer without another recharger.

13 hours of playing time, and various type of music files

The YP-S2 can play not only the MP3, WMA, but also OGG recently used much. That’s why we call the YP-S2 a digital audio player not an MP3 player. But the 13 hours of playing time is changeable according to the file type.

Always the music friend YP-S2

The YP-S2 is a Non-Display type Digital Audio Player featuring the unique design and small size. The suitable functions, design, and price are mixed very well, so made great completion. If users are used to an LCD, the concept of the YP-S2 could be not familiar, but it’s the problem of the taste not the product itself. I hope to meet the necklace type YP-S2 much on the street.

Samsung Electronics, "Thanks! Figo"

In addition to the previous post of this web site, The Donga.com, one of the top 3 newspapers in Korea, explained that the reason that Samsung's SD digital camcorder became the No.1 category in quantity in Italy was because Samsung has raised Samsung's branding image by utilizing Luis Fio, who is a world famous Italian soccer player at Inter Milan soccer professional team, as a model. With this upward trend, Samsung's strategy is to be the No. 1 in the world market in the digital camcorder category. On the other hand, based on the sold quantity of the digital camcorder market in Italy from January to May, Sony was No.1 with 30.3% and Samsung was No. 2 with 26.9%.

Followings are some screens shots that Samsung used Figo as a model in its advertisement.

This is an image used with a stand such as an X banner.

This seems to be taken at a Samsung booth participated in an electronic exhibition in Italy.

This picture is a Figo & Samsung camcorder image that was taken from the real display at Media Mart which is a German digital distributor company, one of the largest digital markets in Europe.
