End of summer

Following is a PL150 (TL210) camera review.

Winter is on the way here in Australia now, making it a great time to pay the beaches a visit while the warmth is still in the air. Here is Fingal Bay, a beautiful bay about 4 hours north of Sydney. The water is crystal clear, the sand soft and clean, life is good here. The sand spit joining the mainland with the little Island (where this picture is taken from) goes under water at high tide, adding an extra dimension to the walk to the lighthouse on the Island.

At low tide the spit is home to hundreds of sea birds, gulls and sand pipers. When approached by wandering humans they all lift off the sand, wheel about overhead, to settle again about 100 metres further down the beach. This gives anyone with a camera handy plenty of opportunities to catch them in action. If you miss them the first time, no worries, it all happens again every time you come close.

On the Island the lighthouse, which is now automatic, stands well kept next to the ruins of the old lighthouse keeper’s residence. The grout is mostly gone from between the big blocks of sandstone, but as a testament to fine workmanship, the structure still stands proud, or a least as proud as one can be behind a rusty chain link fence.

The lighthouse creates a lovely spot for a rest out of the sun.

Here is a loo with a view. Surely one of the best placed thunder boxes around.

A pretty cool looking box in itself.

A Recent fire on the island has created some pretty surreal looking landscapes. At times is felt like being in a fantasy world, with every chance of meeting a troll, or perhaps a fairy.

A Little cove had collected fine black silt from the tidal flows of the bay, creating complex patterns, changing with every wash as the waves rolled in.

Here is a wave breaking in the morning onto a small beach in nearby Shoal Bay. Just me and my footprints there to watch.

In the township of Port Stephens, the locals are an inquisitive mob.

But they get a little shy sometimes and retreat to a safe distance and continue painting the lamp shades.

The pace of life in these parts is so laid back it is almost horizontal. How often do you see a speed limit of 4?

Everywhere in Australia there is of course always time for a kick of the footy…

On the way home I couldn’t resist taking a few shots of one of my favourite things – rubbish! Wonderful stuff.
