Circular Temple of Lanleff

Today, I go to introduce to “Circular Temple of Lanleff”. This temple is situated in Britanny, northwestern region of France. What is remarkable for this old monument, is that this structure followed in the primitif roman style. Its circular form should be inspired by early Christian ages. We guess that the temple is built nearly around in 11st century, reasoning that drafters imitated after saint graves from Jerusalem. This is fairly one of the most beautiful primitif temples in France.

I visited the temple, for a weekend, which is located not far from my house. Little bit excited to witnessing the only single circular temple in France, I tried to bring out my favorite camera, Samsung NX10. Lanleff, the village where the temple is, was absolutely silent like in that days. That’s certainely why the temple standed out and seemed to be so unique… I was impressed not only for its rare circular style, but also for its color and texture. The temple is made by granites in grey-pink color. We call it “rose granite”. We can find this beautiful stone in the northern point of Britanny.

The temple has 12 arches, contains some of enigmatic embossed sculptures. It was like an empty labyrinth, and I just fell in a mysterious mood, keeping coming and going along the passage. Despite of the size, the temple brings on a great dignity. If you are planning to visit Brittany and like old temples, consider of passing by Lanleff. You won’t regret it.
