It’s not long time ago that this camera met digital technology and became a part of our lives. Samsung that is competing with Japanese companies is releasing the first digital camera in 2009 WB500 which has Dual IS, 24mm ultra wide angle lens, and HD camcorder function.

The WB500 has 24mm wide angle lens, 10x zoom function, Dual IS, and HD camcorder function in the compact design. The size of the product is 105mm(W) x 61.47mm(H) x 36.5mm(D), the color is black/silver, around the edge of lens, it gives point with silver. It’s so amazing that DSLR function and HD camcorder are put In the compact design.

The most remarkable feature of this product is a compact camera that has ultra wide angle Schneider lens and powerful optical 10x zoom together. There were some products which have adopted 28mm, but with the 24mm ultra wide angle lens and optical 10x zoom, it helps people take more sensitive and creative pictures easily. It can take pictures harmonious with scene utilizing the volume and space appropriately, and gives grand feeling when taking wide shots.
On top of this fundamental, this camera also has 720p 30fps HD camcorder function. The video recording using the H.264 format which is widely used as HD format makes high quality videos with the small size of files. The resolution is changeable to 1280×720HQ, 1280×720, 640×480, and 320×240. Generally, when taking a video, hand help recording is used without a tripod, and through the IS function, it compensates shake and provides more vivid videos. But the IS function is used, the range of the shot narrows. Stereo type voice recording is possible with internal microphones on the left and right of the body.
Compact camera for Perfection (Perfect Portrait System)
Compact digital cameras are used to have memories of normal life or travel. The WB500 has proper functions for those purposes. Among them, the Perfect Portrait System is the most noticeable function. The Perfect Portrait System is to recognize a face on the frame, and set the focus and exposure based on the face.
Main functions of the Perfect Portrait System
The mode using the Perfect Portrait System is the beauty shot mode. It recognizes a face, compensates a dark part around eyes, and detects the brightness and noise of skin, so better human pictures can be taken. It means that sort of the Photoshop function can be done with the WB500, automatically. The Beauty shot is not the only one to use the Perfect Portrait System. The self guide function lets users know when the face is in the frame with continuous sound, and the face is at the center, it gives another sound more rapidly. And, the smile shot function automatically takes a picture when the face is smiling, even though the shutter is not pushed. But when teeth are shown or making a big smile, it’s well recognized. When seeing pictures with friends, some of them were blinking. It became a sad photo. The blink detection function helps get more pretty pictures by taking 3 consecutive shots if someone blinks when the shutter is pushed after recognizing faces. The Flash red eye recognition function is to find out eyes through the face recognition function of the Perfect Portrait System, senses the red eye effect, and automatically compensates it preventing red eye.
Free from shake Dual IS
The main added function of the WB500 is the Dual IS. The Dual IS is combination of optical IS and digital IS, so it gives more powerful IS function. It has 1/2.3 inch image sensor and 10.2M pixel. ISO is Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1600 for normal, but for maximum ISO 3200 is also possible. Through the Dual IS and ISO 3200, vivid pictures can be taken even in the dark place. But it can’t be used for the digital zoom, huge shake is not possible to fix, and on ISO 3200, the image is degraded to 3M.
Let’s forget the Photoshop!
There are Frame guide, photo style selector, and smart album function for other convenient functions. The frame guide takes a picture after taking the sample shot. Getting an angle, and taking a sample shot, then it leaves the photo on the edge of the frame. While taking a real shot, it helps take a picture as the same angle with checking the sample. This is convenient when you ask someone to take a picture after you get the sample. When looking at some great pictures, it’s considered by a real expensive one. However, the Photo Style Selector of the WB500 loads the internal style effect and can apply it to various styles of pictures such as Soft for soft style, Vivid for strong style, Forest for natural style, Retro for brown style, Cool for cold style, Calm for placid style, and Classic for old feeling. Now, you can easily take a vivid picture, so you don’t have to envy someone.
The smart albue is convenient to manage files by theme, because using the internal recognition algorithm, files are sorted by time, month, color, and file type such as picture/video/voice.
With the WB500, various ways of pictures can be taken, and using the voice memo when taking pictures, feeling can be sent with sound and words. On top of that, with the HD camcorder function, vivid quality of videos can be taken. On the whole, the WB500 makes users happy with the compact design, and 24mm ultra wide angle lens, optical 10x zoom, 10.2M pixel, and ISO 3200 guarantee high and vivid quality.
