NX10 + 30mm lens = Nice results
Following is a user review of Samsung NX10 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.
One of the greatest things about NX10 is that it alleviates the discomfort caused by the size and the weight of DSRL camera. But what’s even better is the pancake lens! Along with the small size, the blue line –which resembles the symbol of Samsung- around the pancake lens adds fresh look to NX10. Today, along with 30mm lens, I’m going to talk about Contrast AF.
NX10 adopted the Contrast AF method so that the sensor can judge the exposed definition (sharpness) of the image by itself, reducing the number of errors, thus enabling faster AF. In easier terms, any one who is reading this post would definitely have noticed that the mirror box and the pentaprism is bravely removed. That’s why much of the volume and weight is gone.
Then, let’s take a look at sample pictures taken with 30mm lens and let yourself be captivated by its charm.
NX10 30mm lens l 1/45s l F2.0 l ISO 100 l AWB l Program
NX10 30mm lens l 1/13s l F22.0 l ISO 200 l AWB l Shutter priority
NX10 30mm lens l 1/13s l F2.0 l ISO 800 l –1.60EV l Shutter priority
When you take pictures with 30mm lens, it particularly demonstrates its charm in snap shots, stills and portraits. There is no problem is in using 30mm for most of the shoots including outdoors except for close ups. Although there is no optical image stabilizer, as mentioned above, it prides in its cutting-edge sharpness so you can achieve great results in places that lack sunlight.
NX10 30mm lens l 1/13s l F22.0 l ISO 800 l –1.60EV l Shutter priority
NX10 30mm lens l 1/60s l F22.0 l ISO 800 l –2.00EV l Shutter priority
NX10 30mm lens l 1/13s l F3.2 l ISO 800 l –1.60EV l Shutter priority
Pancake lens is very useful in taking portraits because you are able to freely express with selective focus. It’s not easy to take pictures of children with ordinary digital camera because they have a lot of movement. I’m sure you have experienced a subtle blur in end results. However, pancake lens which prides in F2.0 will add excitement in shooting because like its characteristic as fast lens, it emphasizes the portrait and blurs the background and easily captures fast movement. If you are a NX10 user, make sure to give a shot at taking portraits. Franly to speak, I didn’t prepare sample shots of portrait. Sorry for that. :((
# Sample video
When shooting videos, 18-55mm lens is a bit better in terms of speed and accuracy, but 30mm lens also delivers excellent results.
Check out another sample video from YouTube.
FYI, Samsung NX10 720p test video. User ID: DIGIFOTOpro
The pictures that I shared today are mostly taken under indoor dark lightning. People take as many pictures indoors as outdoors, but it is true that we have to pay more attention to the light. I hope the sample pictures can be a bit of a help to people with similar problems. Of course, taken in or out, the results were all satisfying. :D
If there is anyone reluctant to take pictures due to the fear of burning sunlight, let’s have fun taking pictures of daily items that are relatively easy to compose.

Good at Macro Shooting - NX10 18-55mm Bundle Lens
Following is a user review of Samsung NX10 interchangeable lens camera.
NX10 Standard Zoom Lens 18-55mm
Let’s take a look at the 18-55mm OIS bundle lens. I think the NX10 users use this lens the most. At the moment, there are 3 lenses released for the NX10, and this 18-55mm lens is provided ad as bundle. As a bundle lens, it can be used for various purposes. It has a small size, and supports 3x optical zoom with IS function, so it’s good for snap, travel, and simple Macro shots.
At this time, I’m going to review it with focusing on the pictures taken by the NX10+18-55mm. Let’s take a look at the appearance first.
This lens is not as big, but compared to the 30mm pancake lens, it looks a little bigger. However, looking at the lens itself, it’s quite good and well balanced with the NX10. IS button and AF/MF button are located next to the lens. 58mm filter can be attached.
At the moment, the filter for the NX10 lenses has been released. It’s a little expensive, but since everyone was satisfied with the filter, I’m going to review it later.
The design is quite elegant. Looking at other bundle lenses, they looked so cheap in their design. Therefore, there was some designing point like line tape in some bundle lenses, but this product is so neat and simple.
It’s the maximum telephoto angle with the barrel coming out. Because I got used to the pancake lens, it looked unbalanced, but actually not. It’s very smooth when zooming. It also has great AF performance.
The lens is being attached to the NX10. When the pancake lens is attached, it looks small, and with the 18-55mm lens, it looks well balanced. Because the lens is also quite light, shooting can be easily done with one hand with the lens being attached.
The aperture consists of 7 blades with 14 bladed stars. Compared with the F2.0 pancake lens, it’s difficult to secure the shutter speed under low light condition. However, with proper setting, there was not much inconvenience for indoor shooting. The bundle lens works well outdoors. By using the zoom function, it can blur out the background and simple Macro which was the weakness of the 30mm lens can also be taken with the bundle lens. Let’s take a look at it with various samples.
I prefer the pancake lens due to the mobility, but the bundle lens is also useful for some purpose.
It was about to rain on the shooting day, so it was very dark even in the afternoon. I usually didn’t compensate pictures, but at this time, I adjusted the brightness slightly.
Among the lenses of the NX10 released, Macro shooting can be made with the 18-55mm lens. Of course, it’s also available with the pancake lens, but there’s something insufficient. Setting the 18-55mm lens to the maximum telephoto angle, you will get the great results in Macro shooting. This time, I wrote a review with the 18-55mm lens.
Previously, the bundle lenses of Olympus and Pentax were so great that a lot of peole used it, and I’ve also been using the Olympus product for a long time and the bundle was good enough for me. The bundle of the NX10 also has great performance as much as other bundle lenses. A lot of users have chosen the NX10 + 30mm combination, but if you have an opportunity, I recommend the 18-55mm also. Let me finish the review with the movie recorded by the NX10+18-55mm lens.

Interview with imagelogers, 1st Story - Ben Heine, a Belgian Artist: Samsung NX10
Following is a user's story using a Samsung NX10 camera.
Benjamin Heine is one of impressive artists heating up internet world. The most recent art project “Pencil Vs Camera” is really brilliant one, has contributed to stamp his name on numerous art fans’ mind. At first, he had started to attract public’s attention as a cartoonist, illustrator, painter strongly reminding of Belgian Surrealism, American Pop art and German expressionism. He had participated in book covers and illustrations for popular authors, collaborated with some of magazines and papers in Europe. He has been frequently holding exhibitions in several art spaces in Brussels where people appreciate his artworks in an atmosphere more intimate than online.
But how lucky we are to be able to experience Ben’s every new update just by clicking a few times on his website, blog and his Flickr. Here is some of “Pencil Vs Camera” series elaborated with a Samsung NX10 which is provided to him by Samsung Digital Imaging. Through these artworks, we can observe not only his photography talents, but also his sketching skills and gifted humor that draw amazing themes of life from his optimistic view.
Let’s enjoy Ben’s famous work, “Pencil Vs Camera” created by a Samsung NX10.
To see more pictures, please visit Ben’s Flickr.
We had a short online interview with Ben. Here are the questions and answers for people who are curious about him.
Q. Please tell us about yourself.
A. I’m a Belgian visual creator. I was born in Ivory Coast in 1983 and I now live and work in Brussels. I studied graphic arts and sculpture and I also have a degree in journalism although I’ve never really worked in that field. I currently have a part time job in the associative sector but I spend most of my time and energy at my personal artistic projects. I recently co-founded with my associate and agent a new art gallery called “The Artistery”.
Q. When did you start taking photos and what mostly influenced your motivation?
A. Photography has always interested me but I started taking pictures more seriously in 2006. Before 2006, I’ve mainly been working as a painter and illustrator. The photos of Gilad Benari are really those that gave me loads of ideas and motivation to start my own photo projects. It took months, even years before any of them received some good attention.
Q. Which object you like to focalize on when you take shots?
A. My favourite sources of inspiration in photography are nature and countryside. I just love fields, wild animals, empty spaces and paths with huge vanishing points. I’m also interested in architecture, urban landscapes, skyscrapers, massive buildings (I know it’s quite the opposite of the nature and countryside themes but I still love it because there are many things to express with it). I intend soon to have a more social approach and to focus on people, taking for instance close up portraits of random persons in their usual environment.
Q. Please describe how your experiences are as a Samsung Imageloger.
A. I honestly feel really proud about it. I consider it a privilege. “Imageloger” (fusion of “image” and “blogger”) is quite the perfect description for me as I’ve been an active blogger since 2005 and also a passionate and prolific image creator since I’m a kid. I’ve always believed that any kind of successful communication is achieved with a subtle combination of textual and visual contents.
When I received the proposal to be supported as an imageloger, I was directly very excited and willing to discover Samsung Imaging’s latest gear and technologies. This is a totally new experience and I’m still discovering the NX10 I received. I’m very happy with its graphic results, its powerful sensor and other particular functions. I’ve for instance always wanted to get more inner quality in my photos, less grain and noise, more details, etc… And this is what I have now thanks to my new Samsung camera. I also enjoy its pleasant interface and its easy portability.
Q. Are there any changes in your life after you have been an imageloger?
A. Not yet, but I’m sure the best is to come and there will certainly be some major changes in my life. All I can say right now is that Samsung technologies have already allowed me to take photos with better quality and reach innovative visual effects in a new graphic matrix.
Q. Please show us the favourite one from your pictures made by NX10.
Symphony l NX10 l 1/125s l F11.0 l ISO 100 l 55mm
A. The photo I prefer so far is “Symphony”, a black and white image I captured with the NX10 in the Belgian countryside, near Rochefort. The original shot was gorgeous but I’ve still heavily edited it to get the tones and contrasts I exactly wanted.
Q. What is the next plan for your life and for your photography?
A. After “Pencil Vs Camera“, I will be working on new creative series. I already have 3 different subjects in mind but I’d rather not reveal them yet. Travel is one of my priorities. I always want to move as far and a long as I can.
Q. Please give a message to all who are reading this.
A. I hope they will be able to fulfil all their goals and dreams in their professional and private life. I wish them luck and success and I thank them for reading this interview till the end.

NX10, an Impressive Camera Enough to be an Issue
Following is a user review of Samsung NX10 interchangeable mirrorless camera.
Experience the charming.
More vivid with the AMOLED
The 18-55mm bundle lens has a compact size with OIS, so it prevents hand blur.
While zooming, the barrel is protruded, so in design, it’s not that good for me.
The compact design of 200mm telephoto angle is quite impressive.
Of course, in order to use the 200mm, the length of the lens increases twice.
I think the 30mm pancake is the best with the NX10.
The best lens with great mobility, quality, and depth expression for the NX10.
* This review was written before the official launch of the NX10.
Most of all, this review is neither about mechanical performance nor specifications. As a user, I just wanted to talk about the camera. I didn’t even consider talking about noise, quality, and something like that, because there are a lot of professional users out there. Let me just talk about my personal feelings.
Most of the sample shots are also personal pictures. Instead, other users will show you a lot of samples.
When I touched the NX10 first, I thought “Oh, it’s so compact!”. With the 30mm pancake lens mounted, it was so cute. My girl friend and women colleagues showed their big interests in this camera.
Due to my job, I used to take out the DSLR in a big bag, but I could just put the NX10 in the bag. It was so nice.
Especially, it’s great when I traveled. It can also record 720p movie, so with the NX10, I wouldn’t need any others. Remembering the time in Thailand with the DSLR, 50mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm to take great shots last year, theNX10 should have been released last year.
I really wanted to go to Japan with the NX10 to take shots of Tokyo. Rather than taking a lot of equipment with a DSLR, I just want to travel with it.
I think the NX10 would be a great partner for memories not just for pictures. Of course, it also can leave great pictures. I don’t need other lenses, but the pancake lens.
Speaking of which, I think the 30mm pancake lens is the most suitable and greatest lens of the NX10. As you are already ware of, the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses are a protruding type, so they are not as great as the pancake lens, even though it’s inevitable for high zooming lenses. I personally used the NX10 with the pancake lens mounted to enjoy the compact size for the most. However, the 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses are also very slim and light lenses, so it’s not a big burden compared to DSLRs.
As I already experienced once with the WB1000, the AMOLED screen is one of the greatest things. If it has a movie play function, it’s also great to store movies and watch them. I’m going to test it. The AMOLED is incomparably greater than other LCD screens, I think. Viewing angle? It doesn’t even matter with the AMOLED.
I like that I don’t need to hide sunlight to review the shots. I hope the AMOLED will be installed in all the cameras. However, the EVF is automatically activated when I put my eyes on. Sometimes, it’s convenient, but I think it could have been better if there was an On/Off function.
One more thing I liked was Beauty Shot for beginners like me, because I don’t like use Photoshop to edit pictures. This is a great function for girl friends.
Moreover, it has most of the convenient functions to take good shots such as Smart Auto and Scene mode which were supported for Samsung compact cameras. I just can give the camera to my girl friend and set it to Smart Auto to take shots without saying a word.
There were some insufficient things. Personally, the arrangement and composition of the buttons were a little awkward. The menu button is located on the left top alone, so I just tried to find the button for a few seconds. The location of the menu button is a mistake, I think. It should have been better, if located next to Fn button.
Given the whole things, I think the NX10 is an impressive camera enough to be an issue.
The NX10 will be able to make me enjoy taking shots again. It makes me want to travel to take a shot. There’s something about the NX10. The NX10 will make me feel the moment I enjoyed take shots with a compact camera.
After an experience for a month, as a user, I’d like to tell you that this camera would be a great choice to take shots expressing me not just taking great shots.
* Samples have not been compensated. I wish I could have shown you more samples.
